It’s not to completely prevent an exploit but to significantly reduce and limit it and not make the exploit worldwide (gamewise) to the general population.
I´m not sure it significantly reduces it.
For it to significantly reduce the spying aspect, there would need to be large amount of players prone to doing this. Players that are motivated enough to support some server through unsavory means and yet not motivated enough to find out a single playername from that server.
I meant significantly reduce it in relation to what it COULD be if it is turned on. I imagine if it’s implemented, trolls/or anyone really can easily whisper to the opposing team whatever the commander is relaying at a whim. I think this possible game breaking mechanic is not worth the features.
Lol papscooldown this already happens
Yes, this is already happening. So why make it any easier for them to do this?
Yeah but your argument is that cross-server chatting shouldn’t be allowed because doing so enables players to solicit strategic information from players on other servers, and removing cross-server chatting would prevent this.
But since there are so many other ways for players to have spies or solicit strategies WITHOUT cross-server chatting…then removing cross server chatting doesn’t make much sense.
It’s removing a feature to prevent an exploit that it’s not really preventing anyway.

I do not support this change back. The reason being is that if the enemy wants information on your movements, they only need to “make a friend” and get said information. Obviously you can still contact people from other servers by using their account name. If you were “friends” you would have written this down and still be using it for communication. It was removed not because of harrassment, but because it was a game breaking communication system. It would be like someone hacking a military computer system and gaining access to all military movements…you can see why that would be devastating.
While it is great to smacktalk your opponent, which is the primary reason a cross chat would be wanted, it also takes away from the game at the same time.
What he said. I don’t think it’s an issue of harassment. It’s an issue of opening up a game wide opportunity for everyone to act a jerk/troll and reveal strategies/positions to enemies. Then the whole concept of wvwvw battles are lost. Yes this may still happens but only on a small scale with dedicated jerks/trolls. Let’s not open Pandora’s Box.
Maybe include the enemies name on their tags but that should be it.

My character can’t log in either. I am in Lion’s Arch. Says something about game client is unable to access the log in server and talks about firewall issue, even though this doesn’t seem to be the case.
