Wouldn’t adding a link during the WvW loading screen be an option similar to when the ESL matches are being streamed on twitch?

Guild Arena Needs more work!

The biggest problem that our guild has been experiencing is getting rival guilds into the halls. We’re having to invite them to our guild and then they rep their own guild once inside the arena. If you leave party during this time period – you are kicked out of the guild hall.

Another thing that I think is pretty reasonable is allowing spectators to see the names of the players according to their team’s color. This makes it much easier to see what is happening as opposed to seeing red names fighting red names.

Allowing spectators to click on somebody inside the arena is also an issue – they should be able to see what/how many of each class is fighting.

Finally, make Team chat appear as a chat bubble – players often use this as a means to indicate they are down and where exactly they are down. At the moment say chat can be seen by both sides, so putting a downstate message up is putting a target on your head.

There are some kinks that need to get worked out but I think the changes I listed above should be relatively easy to implement. Hopefully a dev reads this doesn’t realize it’s the same poster from the unofficial forums.

Guild Hall Upgrades

While many people are complaining about the mastery system that was implemented, I think the biggest problem here is the way that the guild hall upgrades are structured.

Having to first create a Tavern, then a workshop, then a mine, upgrade the mine in order to increase the amount of time-gated Atherium in order to build a workshop, then again grind for a market is simply ridiculous for guilds that simply want the guild arena. The materials required for these upgrades are expensive – which i don’t have any problems with, its the ones that are soulbound drops or time-gated materials such as charged quartz and silverwaste shovels (seriously who wants to grind for 100+ shovels in a zone that has been around for the better part of a year? at least make the mats accountbound drops that drop in the maguuma jungle).

Also requiring items such as 200 runes of holding, and the shovels I mentioned earlier, in order to upgrade your mine and aetherium cap makes it infinitely more difficult for smaller guilds (20-30 competitive GvG focused players) to upgrade their guild hall without dropping massive amounts of time and gold in a game-mode they don’t particularly enjoy playing. Guilds with upwards of 50 members can achieve the guild hall upgrades much quicker because with more players comes more resources.

Why should smaller Guilds have to grind so hard in order to obtain the only thing they’ve asked for since launch? Effectively an instanced version of the obsidian sanctum where larger scale deathmatch based fights can happen. There’s no rational reasoning for the arenas to function any differently than the Custom PvP arenas other than to force players to play the content they don’t particularly enjoy in order to play the game-mode they prefer. Add in the cost of the specializations and new ascended stats and any competitive player that prefers less emphasis on gear-selection than player skill will immediately be turned off to the prospect of gvg’ing and likely turn to other games.

It’s taken two years for a glorified obsidian sanctum to be implemented and yet again the developers have completely kittenized a simple alternative with an overly complex and expensive system that is going to alienate more players than they already have by not listening to the community.

The expansion looks nice, you can glide around like Archeage and the guild hall decorating system is a rip-off of EQ next. Very original and not at all what players wanted.

With the cost of playing the new content and weaponsets/specs I’m sure Gem sales have skyrocketed on top of the 50 dollar pricetag to an expansion that is large in scale solely due to time-gating and gear progression. I’m sure other companies would kill to have the combat-system that you managed to revolutionize the MMO genre with and the fact that you’ve managed to make the game progressively worse is an impressive feat.

I’m honestly very impressed that a game could be better at launch than it is 2 years later – you all deserve some karma for failing the event that is game design.

WvW Lag March 2015

Stephen,

I don’t expect you alone to respond to a terrible lack of fore-site on behalf of the company you work for, and you’re correct you shouldn’t have to argue about technical trade-offs within one tiny thread nobody will ever read. However, as a company it would probably be in your best interest to address the community as a whole through a wider medium than the flame-fest that is the support forum.

I honestly feel as if Arenanet is run by all the kids in my computer science class that couldn’t code and just wanted to play Yu-Gi-Oh and not shower.

WvW Lag March 2015

Stephen,

You’ve essentially stated that WvW was cannibalizing resources from PvP/PvE so you chose to spread the lag around in this latest patch. Perhaps, if as a company, Arenanet had taken into account the resources required in order to support the particle effect extravaganza that is wvw BEFORE releasing the game, then we would not be having these issues.

As a company you chose to develop three game modes in WvW, PvE, and PvP. Unfortunately you put a lot of your troops into the PvP-front only to find nobody there, while the WvW-front was freezing to death marching against hordes of hungry dub-ve-dubbers. Naturally you sent some troops to help deal with those unruly WvW people. (culling was fixed huzzah)

Then the PvP change hits along with massive advertising. People are actually playing the game-mode you put a large portion of your financial resources into (good work, you get to keep your jobs).

After the office pizza-party, I’m sure you were all surprised that there were more people playing your game-mode and the servers may be under more pressure than they’re used to. Who would have thought that more players playing your game would increase the load on the server?

So how did Arenanet respond to an influx in pvp players? Spread the lag around….but WvW gets almost all of it.

The fact that you’re blaming Netflix and other streaming services for causing lag within gw2 is ridiculous. If this were the case it would not be an Arenanet issue and you’d have the internet blowing up about connection problems. Maybe you should include the Netflix and streaming services changes in the patch-notes if it is going to directly relate to game-play. Here’s an example of what you should put in patch notes

*Trailer Park Boys Season 10 is due to be released at 14:45 gmt on the sixth of december, please prepare for and anticipate lag during these times.
