I’ve begun to fall in love with my thief. P/D seems to be my play style. I just hope rangers get some love in the future.

I should add…

I love to play hit and run classes. In DND, I am always the scout, rogue, thief, ranger, etc.

I would fall in love with the ranger if I could ditch the stupid clunky pet and the longbow was actually good. Oh, their utilities are lack luster.

I will give necro a shot. Staves look pretty neat. Their utilities dont look that great either.

The biggest problem I have with en Ele is having to switch “stance dance” with your elements.

I would love to play one… but.. eh….

I tried an ele, but I hated the play style a lot. I will keep messing around!

Collaborative Development: Ranger Profession

Specific Game Mode:
PvX

Proposal Overview:
Ranger class mechanic need a change. Pets should not be a requirement in a game that advertises playing to your suited play style. It is probably the most clunkiest and unreliable mechanic in the game. Pets should be a skill like it was in Guild Wars.

Goal of Proposal:
Not having to rely on Artificial Intelligence to achieve the same results as most other classes. Giving the player more freedom to play the game how they want to.

Proposal Functionality:
It would allow rangers to pick and choose whether they want to rely on pet mechanics much like a Necromancer has the choice to do so.

I don’t really see a risk in this change. You can allow players to specialize pets via traits or you can allow them to specialize in ranged/melee/support/etc.

I am having so much trouble finding a profession that clicks.

I leveled a thief to 80, a ranger to 80, a warrior that is up there, a 30s engie, and a 30s ele.

I am starting to wonder if this game is for me. I love the idea behind it but I am just struggling to find that one profession I want to sink all of my days into.

I was hoping Ranger would be it, but since that profession seems to get shafted constantly, I tried thief. Thief was fun, but I cannot really get behind it. I love D/D backstabbing but I feel just beyond paper thin even when I trait toughness.

I would play Ranger if I could stow the stupid pet and use a longbow as primary damage.

Along the same vein of thought, I was thinking maybe a rifle warrior was my play style. I fell in love with killshot. It just doesn’t seem all that viable in dungeons though.

I think I just felt a vein in my head snap from trying to figure out the pros and cons.

If any of you guys are military maybe you can help me out with a CARVER Matrix.

If anyone needs me, I will be in the psych ward.

I believe the problem for me are the skills themselves.

I tried Engie. I found myself throwing elixirs, but ultimately just spamming nades.

I did manage getting 3 classes to 80 though. Thief, Warrior, and Ranger.

Ranger is just too much of a mess for me to enjoy. That stupid pet really breaks it for me. Warrior decently fun, but again, same problem as the warrior. No depth. Yeah, I can crit someone with kill shot for double digits, but meh.

Edit: I tried mesmer. I didnt like the lack of any real AoE. I need to give it a better go around though.

Its been decided, Ive gone crazy.

I cannot find a class in this game that really resonates with me.

In UO, I played a thief until necromancers came out.
In EQ, I played a rogue.
In DAoC, I played a scout.
In AO, I played a fixer.
In ToR, I played sniper.
In GW, I played a ranger.

I love the play the misdirection class. The class that you have to use brains to play. I want to sneak around and set up my kill.

I just cant get behind the Thief though. I love how the stealth mechanic works, but I cannot get past how BORING the abilities are. I love backstabbing, but it feels like thats all I do… NO DEPTH. I wish I could customize my bar like in gw1.

I seem to find no real excitement in most of the classes… and that is a shame.. I like the game.

So tell me.. how is thief meant to be played?

We have to be the most hated class in the game. Everything about us is deemed “overpowered.”

So I ask you.. How are we meant to be played? Im curious how both, thieves and non-thieves, believe we should played.

Mursaat in Guild Wars 2

Im not too big on the lore but I do believe you run into the mursaat as early… as...level 15 in the Brisbain wildlands. During a dynamic event, an unseen hunter appears. He has the ability to blink, wears a ventilator, has wings, and can hover.

That is my belief anyways. They obviously look nothing like the gold armor wearing mursaat in the first game.

Ranger Vs Warrior

I played EQ I can druid kite and necro push for days on end. In PVE I believe the ranger is amazing. But for RVR… we lack. 9-14k kill shots put a sick smile on my face. I do love the rangers survivability and I do love the 1500+ range 3.1k auto attack shots. I guess take the good with the bad and go with it.

At this current juncture I dont see any reason to play a ranger over a warrior.

I wanted to play a good ranged DPS class. I figured ranger would be the best ranged dps in the game. Thats with elementalist aside.

So I leveled a ranger to 80. While waiting for my friend to catch up to 80, so we could farm together, I leveled a warrior 80.

It seems sad to me that a warrior just has far better ranged skills and utilities.

Ranger has a nice assortment of abilities, but they just cant compare to a warrior. It seems to me that warriors get their cake and eat it too.

Im addicted to the 1500 range on the longbow, but Im also addicted to being petless and having kill shot.. which is AMAZING.

Any thoughts on this?

Again, thats my point. Pets dont make ranger unique. Spirits do. Being the longest range in the game does. Pet buffs are bad because they dont activate quick enough. In a split second decision I need that protection. I shouldnt have to worry about it dying to AoE or having it take 3 or 4 seconds to work.

Takatsu, pets don’t make this class unique at all. Necros, guardians, thieves, engineers, and mesmers all have pets. Ours is just a pet that we can command and lose dps when it dies to one hit.

Besides, a ranger is someone who crosses terrain quickly… which we can do either with a 10% run buff.

They should just rename this class beastmaster and be done with it.

Edit: Left out Elementalist… who also have pets.

Rogues dont need to use steal to be effective. Neither do Guardians with their whatever F-Abilities.

The problem is that pets are required to keep up with other classes damage, but the REAL problem is that pets die far too easy unless you hurt yourself by taking points in beast master. Even then, you have the problem with PET AI…. like stopping to attack, special abilities not working when you press the button, so on and so forth.

Pets also take away from what this game is about. It gives you a bad hellfire missile that just blindly attacks its target relentlessly. How is that skill anyways?

You also cannot balance pets… not easily anyways. If you make them too strong and someone decides to take points in BM, you have a PVE farming machine or an unstoppable killer in PVP.

The simplest solutions are just to makes pets temporary or get rid of them all together.

My personal objective look at thieves.

The biggest problem I have with SoS is that when you take damage you SLOW down a lot. I cant keep up with people even with cripple sometimes.

Boiler Plate Warning: This is how I personally view thieves. I have a level 71 thief and I am only half way through rank 6 in Spvp.

I love the thief class but it drives me CRAZY trying to be competitive in sPVP.

Instead of writing an essay, im going to just do bullet points.

- Mobility and Stealth do not save us. Dodging only gets us so far. You cannot rely solely on it.

- We are far too squishy. Building full toughness is still squishier than a glass cannon warrior.

- Yes, our damage is HIGH. That is, only if you spam HS.

- Backstab should be utilized more. Too bad its FAR too hard to land on anyone with a brain. Not only that, but there is a stealth debuff.

- HS needs a huge nerf at higher health levels. It should still be our kill shot at lower hp levels.

- Steal is one of the WORST class abilities in the game. Unless you only target warriors and steal whirling axe. Why cant I gain a second HP bar like a necro?

Oh well, i had this long post.. but meh, just need to get more PVP practice in.
