How, exactly, would you place metrics on this? Would you blindly reward the first place winner of that tier —of all tiers? If so, what is stopping people from even more server hoping just to get their flashy new reward for their “hard earned participation”?

I, too, would love to see those who deserve a reward get one.. but how do you measure who that is? Kills? Repelling the enemy? Was it you that actually did all the work to get that kill? Were you one of the many scared people who just sat dumbfounded watching the enemy storm your keep when a handful actually did the work to repel them? How would Anet know?

The winning server of EVERY 3 server match up for the week. Pretty clear I thought, nothing to do with place in tier ranking, only who wins the server vs server vs server match up that week.

Anet has already said they intend to make server transfers into a paid service, they should do it when they put these rewards in place. If you are really willing to pay $15 or so, to be on the winning server by mid-week of the match because your server is losing…then it’s up to you.

The reward would be given to EVERYONE on the winning server without regards to participation, and would be something temporary that can be used for the entire week after the win. The reward would be something that does NOT give any benefit that would mess with balance in pve or pvp. it should be something that most people would really like to have, whether it be an amazingly cool skin, or something else.

Please add some form of accomplishment to capping forts in WvW, and for winning the week agaisnt the other 2 servers. It doesn’t have to be an imbalancing items or anything of real value. Just a reward for winning, cool temporary skins, titles, glow…ANYTHING. For the people who don’t really care for bragging rights as it is now with server rankings? For people who like to see an ingame inscentive for constantly capping keep after keep, other than the little stat bonuses to farming.

This would get me back to GW2 in one fell swoop. I love the game, from the combat mechanics, artstyle, graphics to almost everything. But the lack of in-game substance or feeling of accomplishment when it comes to the constant back and forth battle in WvW, is monotonous for me. Please make this part of the game something I have a drive to play!

In interviews the WvW devs have explained that they will be adding progression and rewards to WvW in February. Why not just explain what they will be so people like me and others can get back to playing and be ready with a guild and stuff when the patch comes? Assuming the rewards give meaning to the game of course.

Add progression to WvWvW.

Guild Wars 2 is explicitly designed to AVOID using “progression” as a speed bump. It is meant to be fun for its own sake, and avoid problems present in other games, my least favorite being the problem that you can’t just jump in and play with your friends; you first have to do the “progression”. In GW2, you can be 80 and acceptably geared within days (if not a day) if you’ve got access to some gold, which you do if you’ve got friends to catch up with and do whatever it is you guys like doing together.

In other words, the lack of “progression” is not a bug; it’s a feature. If leveling up and grabbing loot are really the only things fun for you, there are other games for that. In GW2, the only “grind” available is getting cool skins, particularly legendaries… but those don’t make your numbers go up, they just make your character look cool. GW2 is about the gameplay, not watching numbers go up.

I agree with the feature of taking away vertical progression, but what I’m looking for is some risk vs reward in WvW only not character progression. I know GW2 isn’t going to add risk because it might make some casual players upset. But why not add some reward? Other than the menial 2% gains in PVE stats toward you server.

As it stands now continuiously taking and defending forts has no reward or meaning. Yes its FUN, but shallow fun. Start adding a small reward/incentive and you could gain a whole new population of pvpers, myself included.

Even something as small as mailing some gold to players (just like some pve events do), with a message congratulating them and showing what fortress they took or defended, how many heals/dmg they did during the particular fight, kills and deaths etc. in the siege zone period.

Even this small mechanic added would at least add some semblence of meaning to the capturing and holding of keeps. You’d feel like you character was a mercenary for hire being paid for their time conquering or defending a fort.

I know the February patch is suppose to address this is in some way, for the WvW portion of the game. It’s something I hope can give me the incentive to start playing the game again.

But I have a suggestion, why not add a gate to Lions Arch that only opens maybe once or twice a week on a timer that is easily seen, that puts you into a WvW map vs the 2 other servers as it does now. But changes the mechanic, instead of taking and retaking keeps constantly with no real reason, on this map it will have a reason.

On this new map the keeps will have to be aligned strategically, and the only way to win (yes there will be clear win conditions, someone has to win/lose to give a battle meaning sorry guys) is to get the keeps and hold them to make a straight line, to the enemies ultimate bases (make the main base a castle not a standard keep we need it to feel EPIC). Once you take any keep your server is allowed to teleport to each keep that is owned by them (given a base waypoint inside the owned keep), for defense and fast organization.

Basically it’s the same system that’s used in Unreal Tournament 2004’s Onslaught mode, where you have to link certain nodes together in order to assault the main base.

Also the match would have a time limit (good amount of time), and COULD end in a draw if the win conditions ( one castle left standing) was not accomplished by the end of the time limit.

There could be a boon to the entire winning servers population as there is for WvW now but, there also should be a reward for the people who actually participated and won the match, I suggest a flow of gold (not alot) that is sent to the winners mailboxes daily until the gate opens for the next battle.

What do you guys think?

WvW update in February

No idea really, theres been the new map/maps rumor, new tier of armor, but its all speculation. I would love to see better rewards, the current drop rate for anything and everything is pathetic, the same 3 maps with only 1 acception was just a bad idea imo.

I actually had a buddy just pick up the game, we played DAoC ALOT since release up until 2 years ago. His comment was “I love the game its pretty awesome, but, I can’t see myself sticking with it like DAoC because theres no point to the PvP/WvW”. I personally think I will play for quite some time because I enjoy it, but he is right, DAoC had realm Ranks and Realm Abilities to act as a carrot on a stick, currently GW2 has … well nothing. I’m not saying “I want realm Ranks/Abilities because DAoC had them” but some kind of reward system that makes it worth while would be a good start.

Wow did that get off topic lol.

I agree with your friend sadly.

They mention in the video around the half way mark that maps aren’t on the slate for the February update and what the update is suppose to address is rewards and progression in WvW, to keep players motivated. I’m wondering what these rewards could be.

WvW update in February

Skorner.3701

Let me start off by saying I LOVE Guild Wars 2, from the graphics to the gameplay, PVE, PVP and everything in between…But I haven’t played in months. The sole reason for me not playing anymore is do to my favorite part WvW, missing consequence or meaning.

I love pvp games with risk v reward, meaning battles that reward the winner with the spoils of victory and give the loser a stinging loss that motivates them to get better, improve tactics and extract revenge.

Guild Wars 2 WvW while being the best seige mechanics and most smooth feeling pvp combat I have ever played, lacks these features that I crave. The pvp is FUN, but it does not give any sense of meaning or conseuqnce for constantly taking or defending these keeps. A scoreboard with tiny small bonuses to your home server is NOT the kind of reward I was looking for.

Let me make it clear I DO NOT want to be handed an item that will give me any advantage over the other team from taking a keep. But I do want to feel a sense of accomplishment after an epic battle, more than maybe keeping the keep for 10mins before we lose it again.

I know Guild Wars 2 is not the type of game that can give a stiff consequence to the losers nor a large reward to the winners, since it is catering to many casual players. Also they can not make it so the capturing side gets to have the keep uncontested for long because it would break up the non-stop push/pull action.

But after watching this video, http://www.guildwars2junkies.com/2012/12/18/guildcenter-121712-special-guests-habib-loew-matt-witter-anet-wvw-devs/

The two devs mention that the update in February involves progression & rewards to keep people motivated in WvW. So I’m here to ask what you guys, the current and vocal playerbase for WvW, thinks these might be?

Do you really understand the concept?

I think they need to reiterate this concept in an easier to understand way. To STRESS the fact that you can run all the content with your current gear, it’s only if you run it multiple times it gets harder and requires the new gear. I have a feeling not many people understand that.

I think content GATED behind gear is what people are against and afraid of. But if they can run the same content a few times before they become increasingly harder and require specific gear, I don’t see why anyone would have a problem with it.

Also I think the infusion crystals should only have affect in these specific dungeons and not in PVP which I think Anet has already mentioned. When people see offensive/defensive crystals they assume it will effect pvp, but it could simply be +5% dmg to (specific mob inside dungeon).

If all of this is true, I beleive people haven’t quite grasped the concept of what Anet is implimenting, I myself was guilty of this. So I hope Anet can make it more clear that people in their current level 80 gear (exotics) can still run all these mini-dungeons, it’s only when you repeat them multiple times things start becoming harder and require a gear incentive.

I have actually no idea what the rage is about, i think many are just jumping on the band wagon without really understanding whats going on.

Exaclty how I feel, if the system works the way you stated (it’s a bit confusing to udnerstand) people will all be able to experience the dungeons and content in their current gear, it’s only if they want an increased challenge they can repeat them for the new gear.

If this IS in fact how it works, and it works the same way for every new mini dungeon from here on. I don’t think anyone should be complaining.

Havign new gear in the game shouldn’t be a problem. Being forced to attain the gear before you can experience the content is.

But they are doing this (so far), only in a quite special way.

you can run the instance as many cycles you want, its never-ending, the more cycles you do, the harder it gets so its like infinite harder and harder hardmodes. If you only want to see the dungeon you can do the first couple of cycles that are tuned to exotic gear quality. If you want to progress you can do that too, because it will drop ascended gear that will help you progress. but you wont see new content, only the same as previous cycles but harder.

So far its only speculations that further dungeons will depart from this system

oh I didn’t get that explanantion from reading the blog, when it’s explained in that way. I don’t think there should be a problem at all then, why are people complaining? If they can run the all of content with their current gear?

Just run it a few times and be done with it. Sounds like theyre doing there best to appease both fans of non- gear progression and gear progression. I fail to see the problem if what you say is true.

I agree there should be a choice on whether or not you want to aquire this special gear or not. They could do like many other MMO’s do and have you decide on doing Easy Mode and Hard Mode version. Easy Mode = no need for the gear, while Hard Mode forces some gear progression and infusion crystals.

But there should be NO DIFFERENCE in the content itself aside from difficulty, sort of like Blizzard is doing with Monster Power in Diablo 3, where you can choose to do the harder version to challenge yourself, but its the same content.

As ArenaNet said themselves, this game will not be for everyone. Please don’t try and make it appeal to everyone now because you’ll end up not appealing to anyone in particular and end up making GW2 vanilla.

I have a feeling 25-50% of people who purhcased GW2 didn’t read about what they were getting into. Then when they didn’t find a carrot on a stick they got bored, and complained.

No, this isn’t because of the core audience not paying up. This is because P.O.S no-lifers spent 1000 hours in the game since launch and are now complaining because they’ve done everything in the game faster than any development team can hope to keep up with. Now those whiny MMO addicts have twisted the one game that didn’t pander to them.

This pretty much sums up the change right here.
