Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….
Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.
Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.
To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.

Just needed to log in to say thank you!
I really like the idea of Signet of Courage. It allows me to better support my team just for having it on my bar, and the active gives the best part of Tome of Courage (and often the main reason for running it in the first place) with a neat bit of play attached: do I pop this now for maximum heals, or do I wait and try to squeeze another tick out of the passive effect?
I do not like “Feel My Wrath!” It just seems like something that every DPS guardian (especially PvE) will just have to remember to cast on recharge, which would be very annoying to remember. Plus, it’s not even like it’s fun. Shouts aren’t particularly fun skills. They’re useful as heck but for an elite it’s just lackluster, and that’s not something you can really change because by definition shouts don’t have much in the way of counterplay. No cast time, no way to react to it, can’t even be prevented from using them with stuns…it’s just there, all the time. Not to mention the fact that shouts are some of the guardian’s strongest utilities right now, I just don’t think an elite shout would be a great idea because it would push shouts even harder than they are right now.
I would turn Tome of Wrath into a spirit weapon. I would say either an actual spirit or just an invisible entity that wields both the spirit shield and the spirit greatsword (as a one-handed sword). The toggle skill (like all spirit weapons) can be an aoe pulse with a cast time that does damage and grants allies quickness and fury.
There, now you’ve kept the functionality of the original skill (or the part you were going to keep, anyway), you’ve buffed a skill type that sorely needs buffing (spirit weapons are probably the worst guardian utilities right now as a whole), you made the skill much more “elite feeling” (who doesn’t love summoning a giant set of weapons to fight for them…oh of course the models are going to be bigger than normal spirit weapons) and you make the skill something that you need to think about when you cast it rather than setting it to autoattack (because you don’t want your buff spirit dying to AoE or being left behind in a skip section before you really need the party quickness buff).
It completely baffled me that it’s just not there.
Why would it baffle you there’s no pvp in pve in a game where both game modes were strictly separated from the very beginning, and that fact was one of the points specifically raised up in pre-launch advertising?
I was baffled that there is no “duel option” considering it’s called an mmo. As I stated earlier I’m a new player ( I started 1 day ago) and did little to no research on the game before buying it. If you read my prior post, I also stated that the way PvP is set up almost made me quit the game. Because I am a PvP player at heart and as it stands, this game is not an mmorpg when it comes down to PvP. It is an action RPG, full stop. The idea, that of all the work you put into being kitten is pointless when you go to PvP killed me. I hit level 22 and was like… what’s the point? I’m already as strong as i’ll ever be. The only reason I kept playing was to enjoy the PvE aspect. Being able to duel someone out in the world hurts no one, and only adds options to the game. Dueling with progression makes it an MMO. It may just be me, but I very rarely hit max level in an MMO I enjoy. I spend way too much time killing and being killed.
I digress, it’s not the game’s fault that I’m out in the cold with the other PvPer’s. A little research would of went a long way – I can’t help but be baffled at some of the design choices however.
You’re right, it’s completely against how most other MMOs do PvP. It’s also completely in line with how games in other genres that have successful and popular PvP – StarCraft, Counter Strike, Team Fortress – do PvP. Time spent in PvP should not be a slog where you’re grinding experience so you can easily beat players who have been playing for less time than you, and get soundly trumped by players who have been playing since launch. Time spent playing PvP in GW2 gives you an advantage because you, the player, get better at the game. Your character doesn’t get stronger, you do. That was one of the key selling points of GW1 and it’s one of the key selling points of GW2 PvP. I hope that clears up the confusion. Just know that as far as the GW community is concerned, “the way that other MMOs do things” is often the same as “a terrible way to do things”.
The devs think that reddit could be an alternative? Fine, I want to give that a try. I made a new subreddit at /r/GuildWarsWvW.
Feel free to post whatever kinds of matchup threads you want there, or other WvW discussion. Yes, reddit has downvotes, but
1) They’re fake internet points, who really cares if you get a few downvotes, just laugh it off,
2) At worst, the post gets hidden by default, but everyone just opens those hidden posts to see what prompted the torrent of downvotes so nbd, and
3) I disabled downvotes by default. There are workarounds, but they’re not as convenient, and (I’m assuming) people who aren’t familiar with reddit won’t know them.
Now, I’m guessing that none of you know who I am. I think I’ve posted once in a WvW matchup thread. That’s good, because it means I really don’t give a kitten about past blowups and drama. You want a place to cut loose? This can be that place, no modding, no deleted posts, no bannings. Just keep it in some way on topic to WvW and it’s fine by me. I don’t like that there isn’t one central location for people to just act however they want without getting muzzled, it’s been a pretty consistent complaint for months, so take advantage of them kicking you off the official forums and go somewhere where you won’t be restrained.
If you’re not already on reddit, it’s literally the simplest registration process ever. Really, it’s stupidly easy, and (if you choose to be) it’s completely anonymous. That’s probably not as much fun since people won’t know who you are, but hey, it’s there. I did add flairs in the subreddit so you can rep your server.
I’m all for civil discussion when those are the rules, but if I am making the rules, all bets are off. Get angry, fellas.
Can we at least get a reason why Celestial is losing stats? Everything else is changing to a new stat type but keeping its overall weight allocation.
Celestial is going to just lose stats. Nothing given back just bye bye. Is there a reason for this? Was the gear considered OP?
I suspect this is because the combat stats were already balanced. Since MF doesn’t affect combat, and you already have all of the other stats, you’re really not losing anything.
MF does effect the weight of each stat on the gear. This is why Traveler’s, explorer’s and Wayfarer’s have less “combat stats” than other 3 stat combos because magic find is included in the calculations of how much stats each piece gets.
This is also true for celestial.
for example if we assume that the stats on tri stat gear are worth 34/33/33 points respectively, making each piece of gear have a set value of 100. And the stats on celestial are weighted at 12.5 a piece (8 stats). Taking away one stat now weights that armor at a value of 87.5 No longer at 100.
See what I mean?
Traveler’s gear had MF as the primary stat. It is literally inferior to every other type of armor in the game if you ignore MF.
Celestial, on the other hand, is well-balanced on the soldier – knight/celestial – beserker spectrum of trading damage for survivability, and it also stands alone as the set that provides the greatest number of total stat points, which can be useful for builds that utilize all of the stats it can provide.
Celestial does not need, nor was it balanced around, the existence of MF to be a functional and useful set. If you got it strictly for MF, a) you would have been better off with Traveler’s, and b) you still have a very good set that is similar to Knights in terms of damage and survivability. Furthermore, I’m almost positive that the net effect on you in the long run will be negligible, because in the same update we’re getting account-wide MF that will almost certainly be able to out-class (eventually, perhaps) the small MF bonus you got from your celestial gear.
A few thoughts.
1) Any guild, no matter how big or small, can buy influence. 20g per 10k influence. You want to get this upgrade, but can’t farm the influence, there’s your solution.
2) Influence gain scales massively when you have multiple guildies completing content together. If you can regularly field 5 people who aren’t just online at the same time but actively doing content together, influence gain should not be a problem, even for a small guild.
3) The guild missions that we’ve seen all seem to require 5 to 15 coordinated players. If your guild cannot regularly field at least 5 people who play content together, maybe you’re not able to complete these missions anyway. If you can do that, you shouldn’t have a problem farming the influence.
4) You’ll still get to play the content. You just can’t create it.
