I’m a mesmer and I don’t hate shattered strength at all. I’ve been really enjoying being able to actually generate a decent amount of offensive buffs for a change. Thank you Anet for finally giving us something nice. Please leave shattered strength as it is, thanks.
Posts like this only perpetuate disproportion of class to class strength.
I have to admit I was surprised by the change. As it is, every team that is currently competitive or aiming to be runs a shatter mesmer. Most of the folks in here defending the change are most likely mesmer players, and hey, why wouldn’t you defend the change?
My only guess at this point is that Anet are attempting to keep mesmers in line with other classes that have received beneficial changes, while promoting build diversity, but overshot the mark somewhat with this one.
Just because one class is able to generate high stacks of boons doesn’t mean that every other class should too, that isn’t how balance works. Would you say the same thing if they enabled thieves to generate might at such a rate? Not likely.
Just wondering at the reasons behind the stealth nerf to arcane abilities, arcane shield, blast and wave having their damage reduced quite significantly, 50% for arcane shield in fact.

This attitude some people seem to have adopted surrounding bunkers is just an example of some game players laziness. “I can’t overcome this problem, so it must be changed. It doesn’t matter that I haven’t tried using a new approach, or haven’t kept myself informed as to what others might be doing to get around this problem – I want it to be easy.”
The OP here shows how the general attitude of many players is detrimental to gaming. Sadly, these kinds of players make up enough of the gaming community to be able to force companies such as Anet into a situation where they have to bend to their wishes. I very much hope that Anet doesn’t bend, especially if they want GW2 to succeed as an esport game, as many of it’s players do.
My advice would be this: watch some live streams on twitch, see how the players who have learned how to counter bunkers and adapt. By nerfing bunkers, you open the game up to pure dps button mashing fests where no point will be defendable, and team comp’s such as five thieves actually become viable, at which point the game will flop faster than AoC did upon launch.
This isn’t even about “L2P” it’s more learn to make an effort.

I play a support ele exclusively, and I run a stream for nearly all my tPvP matches. Now, I’m going to say here that I’m not an kitten stroker, but we run a team that scrims against the best right now in the EU, paradigm, mace stun etc. From my experience running as a support ele I would say they no where close to being “too strong”.
My advice would be this: Anet, take a look on twitch, look at the top teams right now, see how they deal with this particular spec, or if you like I will provide a link to mine so you can see just how this spec handles against highly skilled players and teams.
There is a simple solution for that however, if you find you have many buttons to press already: just enable auto cast, but add in the option for those who want it to be able to manually cast the elemental’s abilities.
The staff is amazing in sPvP. There’s a lot of top tier teams that run with a staff ele. They are very tough to kill because they can cleanse conditions constantly and they can throw out huge aoe heals with the water 3 and 5 plus blast finishers. They do decent dmg, strong aoe. And they are perfect for killing the treb in kyhlo. The treb has a huge hit box, so the fire 5 ability just destroys it.
Right for the most part, but the staff has anything but “huge” aoe heals. Geyser is a 1.1k heal at the most, and healing rain offers no healing other than the regen. The blast combo finishers are also pretty weak, depending on the healing stat of the person applying the finisher, they range from 1.6k at the most to as little as 900-1k.
If you want to offer actual healing support, the scepter/dagger is the best for that.
So, I guess most people who play the elementalist have come to a similar conclusion as I have; the elementalist elite choices are lacklustre.
I should say at this point I think the class overall is fine in terms of balance from my experience (which I would say is extensive at this point). But when I look into other classes and see the power and application of their elite abilities, I feel a little let down with the elementalist.
My suggestion at this point isn’t a drastic one; we don’t need a complete rework or anything so severe. The one elite we have that most people are using is the summon elemental. This is a pretty powerful elite, but it’s greatest shortfall is the amount of control we have over it. If, for example, the ice elemental would use it’s aoe heal or frozen ground when we actually wanted it to, well, the effect would make it a great addition to any situation. Why not put a pet UI bar for summon elemental, both lesser and greater? A simple fix like this could fix the problem and give the player a greater sense of control with using the class.
Just my thoughts, Ceptz
