I was finishing the completion of Hoelbrak yesterday. There are so many lodges and people there that could have so much backstory and progression. I have so many questions about them. Is the only story am gonna get is from NPC idle chat and nothing else? For a huge place with so much depth, you should allow players to explore some of those stories.

Do you guys check the reddit post for this topic as well? I think there is some good discussion there that you should not ignore. Please scroll down to the discussion of the class changes.

-Pirates turn Lion’s Arch into a hostile fortress of pirate invaders and actually STEAL player items and gold.
Or make factions that consist on players that can do stuff and drive the story with some serious wars and killing and stuff, like in EVE. Something like WvW but impacting to lore and rewards? Agree on fact that personal story is not impactful as well.
What would I like to see from a TV show in a game medium? Twists and an atmosphere like GoT or Skyrim, personalities we care about and hate! You already have the base lore for it: The Gods, the Titans and the Dragons! Warcraft 3 had Illidan, Arthus, The Burning Legion and the Lich King (sorry I haven’t played Gw1 so this is the only thing I can refer to.) Warcraft 3 had multiple people/factions doing different stuff all over the place. In comparison to that one game, WoW did not add much I would say in my opinion. (I did have good immersive moments in WoW though but they were few.) Expand on your Gw2 lore and make it rich! Make it worth following! Flesh out the personalities! And then make it happen in the game. (‘Rich’ might be a bit vague but there are gimmicks you can use to make the lore appear so. Am sure you storytellers know more than me about this stuff.)
Once the lore stuff is in place, we need stuff to do that makes a difference to the lore. Difference between a game and TV show like GoT is that we are in it. The election was a crude version of that. The best example for a successful game that has this is EVE. Wars and invasions happen between factions the results are in the players hands. In that game anything can happen but we don’t need to go to that extend to make Gw2 feel real. All I am saying is the election was a very crude version.

As far as I know, Living story was supposed to like the next episode of a TV show. Right now the story as it is, I don’t know what to compare it to but its definitely not Game of Thrones quality. Gw1 in comparison had expansions that bought the story forward in a much better way . I know its very hard for a company with no additional resources to bring up the production quality like this. It might be better to sell expansions in that case. For living story to be really good, there has to be many things happening all over the place and most of them should be part of a story that is novel quality for example. If you were to write a chapter in a book for what happened this last two weeks, would people read it or would it be considered boring? You need to employ writers like for a show (not just two) and our money should be going to them for bringing a good quality show/world then to the graphics people/implementers.
On the good side, fractals seem like a good beginning to a separate story. About Tequatl, there is something about zerging that allows people who don’t know much about a fight to participate and win still not knowing much about the fight (this applies to events as well). The reason zerging in WvW works is because zergs fight with other zergs that are made up of people, not AI. People can react and counter play and keep things interesting and challenging. Now lets see what Tequatl has against mindless zerging:
1. Poison AOE: The turrets counters this, so like 6 people and the commander needs to know this.
2. Stack on Tequatl: Again just turrets need to know this.
3. Battery stage: The entire zerg goes ‘kill everything fast’ mode. Also, more people = more damage. So get more people. No one cares about the ad attacks because there are enough people to ress. So Tequatl never Tsunami wipes them.
So what’s new about this fight? The average guy stacks on the commander, dpses during the side event and stacks on the commander. Tequatl down.
Lastly, go dark and evil in the living story. Like totally dark.

Now this get confusing. If its underground, why a submarine???
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
Well the “front door” is actually an asura gate, so that’s not really saying much.
But I do believe the sky above the Infinite Coil Reactor is clear so…
…and there is some broken opening at the center of the lake…

Welcome to the master club
I gotten mine quite a while ago (see signature) it’s a nice feeling to have achieved all that
Well done!
It’s a shame you did it with PuGs, it was far more challenging but also more fun to come up with tactics yourself because they simply weren’t around in the first month of the game. With lower level characters and blue/green underleveled gear. So much fun
I miss that time when it was all new and people didn’t skip everything.
Thanks for the appreciation. The disadvantage of puging is people leaving when things get hard. I did AC in the first month too and we would manage to kill Kohler in 1 out of 5 groups. Every time, I had to explain how the boss works and even then people would not know what to do. Then they would try weird tricks like pulling him into the water… My first group in Arah kept dying at lupicus and ultimately did it after pulling him all the way to a waypoint 0_0
I did wish many times for a dedicated group.
Whit a DPS team its cake.First time I did it We’ve managed to take it down in less than 2 mins once we’ve learned the mechanic well .So I wouldn’t say its the hardest boss.Get some BS thieves in there you’ll see how fast it goes down.
Sparks are not always reliable and a lot of things can go wrong but theres a lot you can do to minimise that too.So if nothing goes wrong it can be pretty fast. Finally someone who understands what the problem with this boss is.
DPS-way >>>> Sparks running. And it shouldn’t be that way. Boss is not working as intended.Once you get the grip on it, have the right builds, you can dps simin down every time in less than 2minutes.
While ppl who run the sparks will still have to do it for 10-15min cca. Even if they are good in it and do the boss the way anet intended it.
People don’t realize that its easier now That boss easily took an hour when I did it (we did not know of any spark exploit).

I am not sure that its underground because someone told me its not but above and would not cite source either :S

You could before. That’s when I did it. I just saw that video. Its was a dps race then and its still a dps race now

Determined buff? That does change things. I guess I have to watch that video someone posted in case I plan to do it again.
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
Lol! Maybe so. Believe it or not, I did not find path 4 to be the hardest but path 1 was.. especially because I was a warrior without much condition removal. That aside, I am not sure what the fuss is all about with simin. Did they change something?

I never had the problem of 5 sec repeat. Infact, my game goes for quite sometime with no music at all. Maybe its a setting?

Any source for this info?

Is the facility located above or below the Infinity coil reactor? Whats a lake doing in the middle of it? I swam to the bottom of the lake and saw some rubble and it seems to me that CoE is underground.
Anyways just finished CoE story. It reminded me of why I liked this game: the story (The dungeon story atleast. Remember that AC intro video?) A good closing to zojja’s quest to restore honor to snaff? Please keep the awesome story coming, Anet.
I just want to take a moment to look at WoW. Before WoW there was Warcraft 3. The story in it was awesome. It was like reading a novel. No unnecessary fillers or pointless diversions. Then came WoW. It had so much additional crap. e.g you wouldn’t be part of any original plot until you were high level. Gw2 does a much better job of making an mmo out of the Gw1 storyline and I hope they keep building an awesome story.
People might complain about progression and playability beyond a few months. But if there is something I will do, it is to play the kitten out of expansions, because I know it will continue the story. In future when we are at the third expansion maybe, I know new players won’t stop after buying the first Gw2 just because they would want to know what happens next.
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
I was doing CoE story. The music during the final fight against Kudo was nothing short of awesome. It had that feeling of action movie music but still had some sadness (from Zojja’s desire to resore honor to her dead mentor maybe?). Also the audio outside CoE in the infinity coil reactor added a sense of wonder at the structure, a sense of awe at this futuristic structure, something I will remember. If there is anything I remember from WoW, it is the feeling I got when going to the Outlands for the first time and hearing the music. The music reminds you that this is another planet, one where some one had to flee after being rejected, being torn away from his love. Keep it going Anet.
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
That feeling of wanderlust.. could it be bought into dungeons? Something new and interesting to find everytime you redo it? Or maybe a minigame?
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
So far as I know agony is applicable to just the new dungeon. I only hope they don’t ignore the old ones between all this controversy. And I hope the new dungeon is awesome. :P

I remember my first runs of AC around the first few weeks after game launch. There was just one path that the people who tried running it knew to complete: Detha’s Route. My favorite boss was Lieutenant.
It seems now people can just face role AC and every other dungeon. Ways to bring the challenge back :
-Constant dungeon meta monitoring and balancing similar to games like League of legends, which is also a 5-man game. The bosses should be buffed/debuffed/reworked to require frequent changes in rotation and builds similar to what happens to Champion builds (in league of legends).
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
The difference in stats shown between exotic and ascended is 5 points for power/precision and 3% for magic find. Is it significant at the moment? Also the agony stat occurs only at the dungeon. Out of the dungeon Infusion is useless isn’t it? So unless those 5 points are significant, why are people complaining? Isn’t it already a single dungeon only gear treadmill? Also, where is it confirmed that the difficulty is based off the stat alone? A-Net has made awesome boss mechanics in their dungeons and they surely can invent similar boss mechanics in this dungeon, maybe even a boss that requires an increasing level of skill to tackle as levels progress.

My friend was playing in Lonar Pass which is supposed to be the foothills of the shiverpeaks. I looked at the hills in the background and couldn’t help wonder if there is a huge line of mountains there including one like Mt. Everest and would we be able climb it.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

I like humans being dormant. Its a nice change. The charr are well made in this game and you really like them. You get to see their point of view. If you didn’t like what the humans offered, you should have chosen a different race.
No, you can’t. Because the game makes you kill Ascalonian ghosts in order to help the Charr. You are not presented with an option to tell them to kitten themselves and if you ignore the Hearts, you cannot complete the map. Roleplaying is freedom to choose between several choices. Being forced to do something your character finds objectable is not good roleplaying.
Firing cannons at the Wall doesn’t help either.
What about role playing the peace treaty?

rytlock has a fancy bottle of whiskey on his office, and what did you think elixir of heroes was?
I guess I can look forward to having a nice chat with Rytock over a bottle of whiskey sometime in the future
Dungeon Master (Dec-23-’12) Warrior class
For those who don’t know, Charr was advertised as the retired legionnaire type with agnostic views and preference for whiskey. I have yet to see my character drink whiskey (Maybe he will after he is done adventuring). Anyone see any interesting references to this and the Charr psyche in the game?

So I guess us lowly WinXP users have to just learn to live with this?
You know ArenaNet, the AMD driver guys do have phones. And judging from what I hear, they´re actually waiting for a call.
Am sure its not something as simple as turning a switch, and even if it is, they might have to deal more pressing matters first.
I understand you and if you see some of the dev posts, you will find that they do read our threads.
I guess we just have to give it time.

How being in India is an obstacle to update your windows? If you are concerned about its cost there are always other ways to obtain them if you know what i mean
yeh its not the most ethic way to get it but they lack it in the first place. Besides your pc would handle the game with win7 just fine its the game itself causing you the fps problems and it will be fixed soon I hope.
I play from a cafe and the owner doesn’t want to do it sadly
Anyone have same specs as me and NOT have this issue? What settings do you use?

its 2012 for god sake even the windows 7 is obsolete update to win7 or 8 even MS abandoned XP.
I live in India. Honestly I would have done this if I could. GW2 met minimum system requirements before I upgraded and I didn’t have any problems except mild FPS issues in WvW. I upgraded just so this game would look better. But now I get this issue.
I think its a setting issue since most ATI users do not have it.
When you change vids did you perform a clean install? Last time I know the command line fixed the error.
I checked and followed an online guide to remove all Nvidia drivers and folders. The Catalyst installer did not give me a clean install option as I recall.

try adding -dx9single to your shortcut target command line.
Nope no change. Should I change any setting in Catalyst?

My specs :
Intel Core i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07 GHz 3.06 GHz
3.24 GB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
Old Graphic cards : Nvidia GT 520
Upgraded to new card at GW2 launch : AMD Radeon HD 7750
Driver Version: 12.8
GW2 Graphic setting : Auto Detect
After the upgraded to this card, I am having an issue that I never got with GT 520. Terrain disappears whenever I turn my camera. This makes jumping puzzles almost impossible to solo and I frequently stand in the air or bump into invisible walls.
Last I heard this, is related to Umbra Occlusion Culling desync with GW2 camera. However I asked other players with ATI cards and they do not seem to have the issue.
