Tarnished Coast
Ranger
Hello my name is Jack,
I’m just looking for some friendly people to play with on weekends. I have class and work on weekdays but finals are coming up soon so I’ll be able to play a lot more after that (mid December). I’m not a huge fan of sPvP but I will do anything PvE and WvW, especially Living World content and dungeons. I have a level 80 ranger and I’m leveling up a level 60-something elementalist. I’m on Tarnished Coast but I’m fine with guesting if needed.
I don’t care if you just started playing or if playing gw2 is the only thing you do, just looking for people to mess around with! Add me and message me next time I’m on if you want to play!
Are you just doing quests in that area? If you are I’ll tag along!
I have about 70 laurels saved up, copious amounts of karma saved up (not sure how much), and about 50 gold.
Wow, thank you so much for taking all the time to type that out, very informative! Also, just to be clear, there isn’t any ascended armor? It’s just accessories, amulets, weapons, back items, and rings?
I’v been 80 for a few months and there’s still so much stuff I don’t get. So if someone could help and explain what these things are/do/why they’re important, etc. that would be great!
-Ascended gear (how to get it, why it’s important, what slots can it fill)
-Legendary weapons (how to get them, why are they such a big deal)
-What AR should I have for which fractal levels?
-What are the best places to farm champions?
-What are the best ways to make money?
-What is the Shatterer?
-What do most level 80’s do to have fun besides PvP and WvW?
-What is the Mystic Forge (how is it used, what most people use it for)
I’m sure I’ll come up with more, but those are just the ones that came to mind. Thanks!
It seems to me what the true issue is that the professions are the same in pvp and pve despite the fact that they are extremely different types of gameplay. Arena Net did the right thing when they separated your stats and gear from pvp and pve, but I think they should take it a step further and alter the player’s powers differently in pvp and pve. This may seem a bit drastic but it would get rid of a lot of these balancing issues we’re discussing.
This is a pretty big issue that I feel like isn’t really being addressed. It really bothers me because I enjoy playing a lot of professions that don’t perform too well in dungeons. Which is a huge bummer because dungeons and other pve things are my favorite parts of gw2 but if you don’t choose to play a warrior, guardian, or ranger (and maybe thief) you’re permanently stuck with the fact that you won’t be as effective or as survivable as other professions.
I really enjoy playing elementalist but they are extremely squishy. I would be fine with this if they did huge dps but they don’t! I feel like the squishier professions should do the most damage whilst the heavy armor professions should do less, so the game would be more balanced. But, warriors end up getting the most dps and armor, which is why it seems like 1 out of 4 characters are warriors (maybe even more). So hopefully a-net starts addressing some of these things. What do you guys think?
By small groups I pretty much mean anything besides a zerg. I hate being restricted to fighting with a zerg, I would much rather roam with a group of 5-15 friends. So what class would be the best in that situation?
And please don’t say:
“It’s all about what you feel the most comfortable with” (because I play ranger and it isn’t)
“There’s no best” (I’m really just asking for your opinion, so give it to me!
)
Ok, that bit about Nature’s Bounty was very helpful and I changed it. Should I use something besides traps to apply conditions? I get a lot of crap in dungeons for using traps but I can’t imagine they’re that bad, and I like having aoe.
I’m still pretty new to 80 and I would like to know what you think about my build. I do a lot of PvE and WvW but I want to be more effective. It’s a condition build and it revolves around applying lots of bleeding with the short bow and with Sharpening Stone and using traps. I use the axe and horn when facing groups of 2-4 because the axe hits up to 3 enemies and I use the horn for the swiftness. If you think my build is crap and I should completely change it that’s fine, tell me! What I really want is to be able to output a lot of damage in dungeons but also be able to put up a solid fight in WvW even when I’m not with a zerg (10 v 10 for example).

*In WvW I switch out Viper’s Nest for Signet of the hunt usually.
What GW2 is missing that MMORPG’s get wrong so much is the easiest thing to do. “Open Space”…that’s right. Open-space of plains, forests, deserts and oceans makes the world feel more alive and thriving. But most MMORPG’s forget this element and the world ends up feeling rigged, constrictive, and in the end, suffocating.
It would be nice when GW2 opens up more maps, north of Tyria and the Crystal Desert, that they make things more open and less rigid. Not every inch of the game needs to be filled with action….let the game breathe a little and people will feel less confined in the game. The art to crafting a world is illusion…the illusion that the world was naturally made, not by man. Hopefully GW2 implements this, or a future MMORPG does….
There has only been a a handful of games that successfully done this. I will not name drop…lets see if anyone can guess the MMORPG’s I speak of
I agree. Anet’s been doing a great job at giving us fresh content with the Living Stories.
But, going along with your idea of open space; that would be really cool if they provided the players with vast open spaces where PvP is allowed anywhere and you could team up with other players and survive. There could be keeps and forts that you could capture and defend. Also there could be small towns that a group of players could take over and use for bonuses like merchants, NPC gaurds, etc. It would be a max level area and there could be world bosses where players would be forced to team up and defeat despite the fact that they could kill each other.
It would add more to the end game, which a lot of people are complaining about.
If you know what any of these terms mean that would be great if you could tell me what they mean, I’m new to level 80 and I’m trying to catch up on the lingo.
Berserker/Zerker/zerk – Do they mean the same thing? (context: "I’m looking for a Zerker Warrior)
Trap – context: a Trap Ranger
Zerg – I know what it means (a large group of players, right?) but why is it called a zerg? Is it a reference to zerg rush in Star Craft?
Bunker – a Bunker Ranger
Also, some other random questions:
What does it mean when someone says they’re porting in Lion’s Arch?
Is Agony and Agony Resistance only specific to FotM? Or, does it help outside of FotM?
What race do you think has the best racial abilities?
What colors match up to rarity types? (i.e. Ascended – Pink)
Are there any good dungeons to farm besides CoF path 1?
Thanks!
