I’m I the only one that has a problem with the Ranger not being the best “ranged” class in game?
The Guardian has better ranged burst.
The Necro has better ranged continuous dps.
Elementalist has better ranged Aoe.
What does a “Ranger” have that is superior in terms of “ranged” Attacks? None.
All they got was better heal as a druid? This has got to be the stupidest addition to a “Ranger.” Anet WTH are you doing?
Gliding is stupid. If’ you’ve tried it in core Tyria you would know lol.
Q4 Gw2 sales are out. Everyone is disappointed. Mounts Anet Mounts. It is the answer to all your problems. Even if people complain about it now, they WILL buy it if it comes out. They’re just arguing for arguments sake.
Mounts will save the game, listen to your community, you’re headed straight to where D3 went and died.
I can’t help but have this suspicion that NCsoft is focusing on Blade & Soul release at the cost of throwing this game to the curb. Thoughts?
CAN YOU MAKE THE SNOWFLAKES BIGGER?
They look like dandruff at the moment. thanks.
Not that my opinion makes any difference but I vote no to mounts. I find it nice that I can go to the vendor or TB and not have them hidden by people not dismounting.
Maybe I’m just getting cranky in my old age but not being ‘mount twerked’ while trying to sell my inventory junk is awesome.
Have you tried the Wintersday Jumping Puzzle? Charr and Norn already clutter up everything and you can’t see yourself nor the trade npc in the cities either.
Sorry, but I can’t accept your reasoning.
Take an immediate waypoint or ride a beast? OP, you sure these aren’t Freudian desires?
as I said before, stop with the either/or. We want both and neither one obsoletes the other. They are mutually exclusive.
This mount battle system would be so much better than… wait for it… UNDERWATER BATTLE! Yes, I said it. It had to be said.
I’ve played a game that introduced mounted combat. Believe me, it was a mess, and I never ever want to go there again.
not the same game, not the same developer.
uhm when you can run from LA to Orr in 15 minutes I dont see the point nor do I want to look at them, it adds nothing to the game, and this game needs to be saved from its whining playerbase for the most part.
Read OP. Movement speed was never the goal.
This mount battle system would be so much better than… wait for it… UNDERWATER BATTLE! Yes, I said it. It had to be said.
So answer the question any and every game designer is gonna ask: what to you intend to replace all the traits, signets, and runes you just obsoleted with?
Speed exists in this game, it has considerable value, and it’s achievable at considerable cost. How do you see mounts fitting into that other than as a pure gimme that wrecks a considerable number of systems?
I already dealt with this. A cavalry knight on horseback can still use his/her skills. We should be able to use our skills/sigils/traits etc, on our mounts as well.
We will just be on our mounts with a 15% speed buff that can be overridden with a greater buff if it is to surpass 15%.
Edit: Also, they even spent a considerable amount of time developing a costume brawl battle system and you’re telling me they can’t figure out how to put a mount animation under our feet? Magic carpet, broom, etc says otherwise. No, the mechanisms are all there already. They’ve just chosen not to do it.
I’m trying to say that we should choose to do it now because it’s good for the community and income. It’s a win-win.

I’m a long term supporter of Mounts, but one thing iwll I say here about them..
At the current state of GW2, Mounts will absolutely not save this game – at all!!!
This game has way too many other problems right no, than that the addition of of mounts would change the game in any positive way – and alot of these problems are thigns, which should have been adressed by anet already years ago, but got ingored by them all the time and become only more and more of bigger problems.
This game has already such a big pile of problems that to fix them all for take years by the pace of which Anet delivers big changes to the game.
The Top 10 of this that need to receive immediately dire attention first to get finally fixed in this game to brign the game back onto its right path are following things:
1) GAME BALANCE
The game is basicaly since june 23rd totally out of control in regard of balance and Anet has nothign better to do, than to let us wait over a freaking HALF YEAR, until we will see finally again some bigger balance changes after that they forced us first to endure a long PvP seasson with all this absurdly terrible game balance around that has 2 death nerfed (Warrior/Thief) classes and 7 total overbuffed powercreepers.
The overall Game Balance is lacking right now at so many points and doing something on balance only every 3 months is non acceptable. Game Balance needs to be the overarching top 1 process that needs to be constantly running and with constantly I mean, that there needs to be balance changes every 1-2 months, not first every quarter of a year.2) Reimplementation of Living World Season 1 under the game Design of Season 2 with own Achievements for repeating the Story Segments. Heart of thorns is out now,, so this should be now on their radar to get fixed now ASAP to make this game finally complete
3) Fixing World vs World ASAP and giving WvW finally a Reward System that is actually REWADING, and that on a equal basis to playing PvP/PvE.
From what has been heard so far, they seem to work already in the background on a bigger WvW Redesign/Overhaul.
I just hope for it, that they make also some significant changes to the new Desert Maps, so that they become more fun to play.
It was absolutely no – NOOOOO good decision by Anet to make for Desert Map absolutely no Open Beta and implementing it then into the game without getting actually enough feedback. its no miracle then, that the whole implemtnation iof the new maps totally FLOPPED, because the maps are crap and absolutely no fun at all to play on, because of the maps being way tooo big (should be like 25% smaller), way too movement stopping by its maze design, they don’t integrated gliding, in a map, where gliding would have been by the design perfect and alot of fun…
They still waste so much potential for horizontal WvW Progression by implementing something useful like class based WvW traits to give all classes in WvW actually some ROLES.
We still have sauch a ridiculous senseless rank system with 10000 ranks in a game mode, that actualyl provides only wvw character progression for roughly 1400 ranks of 10000 only, and if you have maxed out everythign, you collect tons of useless rankpoints with that you cant do anything … when there is so much potential for more useful WvW traitlines that could improve WvW significantly while giving the player the feeling of more progression.4) Fixing PvP and overall Game Balance, by finally making for all Skills/Traits in this Game specific PVP VERSIONS, so that they finally stop ruining this ghame for many players, because they nerfed something to death for PvEers for example, because the skill change was originsally inteded to change something for PvP or WvW.
When will Anet finally realize, that they peep off everytime with these overall changes alot of players (to the point that they permanently quit the game even), when this would be so easily preventable by just making for all Game Modes, especially PvP in this case their own Skill/Trait effects to make it themself easier to balance the game modes for actually only the game modes alone, without having to fear any backlash from annoyed players that got their builds destroyed, because Anet had to chance again something without thinking even for a single second about it, what these changes might mean for consequences for other game modes ….5) Less GRIND, Less RNG, Less sensless CLICKING FESTS
Since 3 years is Anet now paying over all, what they do make all diferent than the tons of other 0815 mmorpgs out there, how innovative they are and so on and since all this time they constantly do exactly alot of the same bullcrap mistakes in their game design, like said all other games – brief said, thigns and mechanics, that annoy players to hell – mainly grind, ridiculous RNG mechanics andpointless clicking fests – lately again 10000 alcoholic drinks where easily 2500-5000 would have been more than enough to turn wintersday not into a stupid grindfest over a title and a new skin, with other new rewards walled behind rng mechanics or crafting crind that requires again alot of luck either for the rng wall or grindign gold to buy all the stuff from greedy players that abuse this situation to make absurd profit from you whioch stands absolutely in no relation anymore…
The game has already so many things that should get reduced in their grind, rng or crazy clicking mania, it would be too much to list everythign up here now …6) Adding finally all the announced content, that should have been in the game already from Release Date on – things like POLYMOK, BAR BRAWLS, bringing back as minigame activity ASPECT ARENA back and implement the Laberinthine Cliffs as a normal permanent explorable map also..the zephirites are basically destroyed since season 2, so there needs to be an other way to get to tha map, bringing back also MOA RACING and please, improved as an actual minigame activity, not as a stupid boring money betting mechanic wholse only purpose it is to be a money sink …
Brinking back SUPER ADVENTURE BOX and completing it with the missing worlds and letting it then stay also as permanent content once it is complete.7) Revamping the complete Dungeon System, so that it receives at least again a unique reason for why players WANT TO PLAY THEM, if not for the gold reward, then should dungeons provide other unique rewards, that players should be able to earn only by playing the dungeons and not with PvP reward tracks, which are a reason, why dungeons are in the bad state as they are now, as alot more players would play them still, if it wouldnt be much easier to get all the dungeon skins ect. by playing pvp, which is now even more rewarding than dungeosn self…
8.) Revamping, rebalancing and improving the whole Underwater Combat System, so that it actually feels again like a valuable part of the game and not like one of this games many unwanted step child systems, that got permanently shafted and neglected, because of ANet having permanently alot of othe things in their focus – mainly living story, gemstore and e-sport, while practically ignoring mostly all the rest of the game over the last years.
9) Undoing all of the silly Visual Noise Changes, by making it a personal choice option for everyone in the graphic settings to decide personalyl for yourself, if you want to have the graphics reduced or not, and if yes, by how intensive it should be reduced and what exactly should get redcued for you/all around you in your display.
This should have been the very first thing, that should have been added very first, before ruining the game for many players with all this sudden visual noise nonsense by crippling the game graphics down to stone age level10) More Continuity in the game Content finally !! Also Ascended Equipment must become finally again more alternative character friendly, the silly time gating needs to get removed finally. Ascended stuff is already integrated good enough in this game. There is absolutely no need anymore for all this silyl time gating.
It needs to be removed to stabilize again more the econmoy around the way too expensive ascended equipment.
The game needs more way to earn ascneded items, other than only raids, fractals, craftign or super duper rarely as loot from wvw rank rewards or boss loot chests from world bosses full of asia grinder RNG with chances lower than basically 0,00001% to get what you want to slow down the player progression in this game down into oblivion with the pure and solely intent to drive the player insane either or to force them to spent real money for gems in order to speed up the progress if possible by using huge amounts of gold …but not in all cases this is possible.
If they remove the time gatign, prices would fall a bit, but not so much, that ascended stuff would become over night super cheap, but the game would instantly make again alot more fun, if you dont get slowed down every day in making the thigns you want. How can it be, that still until today there doesnt still yet exist not finally Jeweler 500 and Chef 500 too??? Its really ridiculous. how long does Job Level 500 already exist by now? 2 years? and you still havent managed to finally bring Jeweler and Chef on par with all the other crafting jobs Anet. Then it gets topped by Scribe, which gets also imple, mented with its incomplete Job Level 400 and is an absolutel horrible grind design which should work like all other crafting jobs too, but should be in fact only learnable simply, if you own HoT. Point No, instead they make it a guild bounded terirble 5000 gold grind rolleyes
If these 10 things woudl get fixed finally, then this game would be again on the right path and only then and first then theres time to speak about something like mounts, which would become 100% sure a gemstore only item then anyways and surely not be any game saver at all. Moneywise for Anet surely yes, for them they’d be a blessing.. but for players they are just only an optional quality of life item that doesn’t improve this game essentially at any of the core points, which need direly improvements and that QUICKLY.
Some of these suggestions are good. But some of them are not. It is what YOU want, but not necessarily a fix.
But ALL of them need time and effort to achieve. ANET can’t magically make it happen.
That’s where mounts come in. The extra income and extra excitement will finally give ANET the time and resources to pull it off.
Think not how ANET can help you, think rather how you can help ANET address these problems.
Mounts is the way to do it. Let’s support ANET by buying mounts at 1700 gems each every month. This is a wonderful idea.
The problems you just mentioned really aren’t problems at all. At this point, it just sounds like you’re whining about a problem only you foresee just for the sake of arguing against a change. I don’t like your opinion for this reason.
Ah, understandable but if anything other MMOs, noteably WoW which added flying mounts early in the game and made fast mounts ubiquitous instead of a luxury, have shown that this is a very real thing.
Honestly you can accept those drawbacks, sure. It does however make a different in how the open worlds feels to play in, seriously. The reason I mention that is specifically because HoT made the open world more dangerous. It seems to be the opposite design direction, and “open world PvE is way too braindead simple” is one of the most common complaints we’ve seen pre-HoT.
Now it’s still easy, but not entirely braindead.
This would – probably – imply that the devs are going to repeat this, going forward. Hence any addition of something which allows you to ride past enemies should be balanced against the difficulty.
One easy option is to make mounts 50% speed, nonstacking, and automatically dismount in combat. This would mean that having a mount and not having one is a skin-only thing, as the effective run speed is the same (the OOC boost is 50%).
This problem is solved if you let us battle on top of our mounts. That’s what Cavalry does, fight while mounted. It’s quite natural to a reasonable lore.
Soleil,
That still doesn’t show why the game needs saving. You just claim that it needs saving. And then point to an end result reason. But that’s not that core reason. And until you say what that CORE reason the game needs saving is, there is no way ANY of us can claim that mounts will save or not save the core problem you think the game has.
So, why are stocks falling?
Could be game issues or corporate issues. I will assume you mean game issues as mounts won’t solve corporate issues.
Game issues the game has:
1. Lag
2. Low FPS issues
3. Crashes
4. Too easy/Too hard – aka Difficulty issues
5. Balance issues
6. Way too many WvW issues to list
7. Guild issues
8. Achievement issues (Festive Imbiber)
9. Rewards issues (failing events, rng, etc)
10. Content issues (too much, too fast/too little, too slow)So which key issue, will mounts begin to address? If it’s not listed, please let us know specifically in as few words as possible. If you must expand, have the fewest words possible summary bolded or otherwise easily findable.
Basically keep asking Why is this happening? until you can’t answer it anymore without giving obvious answers.
Why are stocks down? People are unhappy with ANet.
Why are people unhappy with ANet? They are getting a feeling a lot of people have stopped playing GW2.
Why are they sensing that? Because they’re reading several posts about how players are fed up with crashing.
Fed up with crashing is the first time you get to the point where if you ask anymore questions, you’ll get obvious answers. In this case, the reason the stocks are falling’s root cause is the crashes the games has.
So, find the root problem. Then we can discuss if mounts will help fix the problem or not.
Don’t put me in a box of your ten problems. I am dealing with a bigger problem of unnatural lore, built up community disappointment with updates offered, and gem-induced income.
A higher income and more investment will allow more time and employees to handle your 10.
I am pointing out an overlooked goldmine that needs to be addressed in order to help address the rest of the problems.
Mounts will save the game.
Then you missed this line:
If it’s not listed, please let us know specifically in as few words as possible.
I knew there were likely more issues, but I didn’t need to spend 5 years writing an exhaustive list.
But based on this response I can infer you think it’s a money issue. Please let me know if I’m wrong.
Here’s one why path:
Why aren’t they achieving the money they want? Because HoT didn’t sell as well as expected.
Why didn’t HoT sell as well as expected? ANet mismanaged the information stream. The fiasco regarding hero points really hurt the sales combined with not much concrete information was released. Had that information come out sooner, it may not have has as huge of an impact.
So in my mind, ANet being more open with information would save the game. Not mounts.
There are enough people that withhold gem purchases with money based on ANet’s decisions for the game to say that just mounts will save the game. Enough who want mounts may be unwilling to spring the cash to buy the mounts because of other more critical issues they see with the game.
Even their merging of mount threads without a word is an issue. I’d rather then come out and say: “Hey, we’d really like to add mounts but we can’t really come up with a lore based way to do it or with a fair way to handle them that won’t make our problems with lag and FPS worse.” Or a “We don’t plan on adding mounts at this time because we are afraid this will lead to inflation due to fewer people using waypoints and can’t come up with a fair way to tax mount usage. Should someone come up with a solution to both problems, we would look at it and may consider adding mounts at that point.” But just merging it doesn’t say anything to me. It could be a it’s on the table and in the works, so we can’t talk about it; or we don’t want to drive away the large minority by outright saying no.
So: Why does ANet have a money issue?
Answer in as few words as possible. Until we get to what you feel is the core issue, extra words are pointless.
I have no reason to answer this question. It’s not something we can resolve here.
I’m not interested in talking about problems, they have experts who do that already. I am here to suggest a solution. And my solution just happens to be a beautiful one that will make everyone happy.
Your posts are well… just whining
Which means you know it won’t save the game, but are too proud to admit it.
Stop claiming it will make everyone happy when there are people in this post who say it will make them unhappy. Stop speaking for everyone.
To get other PLAYERS behind you, you need to convince us you’ve found one of the problems that ANet’s people have found and that your solution will solve that problem. If ANet’s forum reading people don’t get a sense that your solution is well liked by others, they won’t pass it on to those who are in charge of making the decision on whether or not to add mounts.
So again: Why do you have money problems?
No one has said that it will make them unhappy. The strongest negative emotion was annoyance.
A positive remark about mounts was mentioned by another poster to describe mounts as beautiful and well desired.
I’m winning in terms of community feedback about mounts.
I am giving a solution that will mainly do 2 things.
1. Enrich Lore and Gameplay Enjoyment.
2. Increase income to help ANET work on the major issues more effectively. I already think they’re doing a good job, they just need a good push to help them do it faster and more efficiently. My solution helps that tremendously. If you really want the answer to your question as to why there’s a money problem then here it is:
It is because the developers have not listened to their community and their suggestions for improvement.
Which includes your suggestions as well Seera. I think you bring up good points. It’s just not relevant to this particular thread is all.
They’ve instead cut back and took the easy road due to budget issues. This caused the initial exodus of players who were the chief income producing agents for ANET. It all spiraled down afterwards.
Ok, we’re getting somewhere.
How does adding mounts solve that problem? Adding mounts is only one suggestion for improvement. Other suggestions have been made for the game. Some contradicting each other. Is every idea no matter how absurd supposed to be added? What do you about ideas that contradict each other?
Your problem I think is a symptom of my problem. Their lack of communication creates the perception that they don’t read threads. Whether that’s true or not, neither of us can say. If they communicated more, we’d know better what ideas would work with their vision of the game and which weren’t. And how to better to lay out the case for our ideas. Do they care more for lore or for balance?
Racial elites have been posted. Lore wise it makes sense. But balance wise that could be an issue. Norn warriors who go the Norn Elite route may end up more powerful than an Asura warrior. While lore wise that makes sense, they did say that racial skills were underpowered because they didn’t want race to become something people used for finding others to party with. So it seems if the two oppose each other, they go for balance.
I see what you mean. However, I really can’t address the balance issues you’re talking about.
I think ANET is doing a good job at balancing. It just takes time so I would ask you to be patient with them.
My goal is to increase income and disposable income at that in order to help them address your concerns faster. We’re aiming at the same goal but going at a different angle. I hope you will see the positive effort of my OP. The end goal is to help ANET do their job well. Which I think they’re already doing. They just need that support push from us the community. And I think the mounts will be well received with a plethora of income opportunities to be had.
Until they figure out the major core issues, any gem sales are likely to be too adversely affected to have any huge affect.
People aren’t going to buy gems if they’re crashing.
People aren’t going to buy mounts if they’re having FPS issues.
People who mostly play WvW aren’t going to be happy to fork over money to ANet for mounts if WvW is still in its current state.
People aren’t going to buy mounts in drove if they have no where to take those mounts (lack of content problem). HoT maps aren’t exactly designed for traditional mounts and flying mounts would negate the entire gliding and mushroom jumping masteries. And anger a lot of players. Someone will ask for flying mounts if non-flying mounts are added. You might not, but someone else will.
Looking at all the people farming for [Winter’s Presence] I’m pretty sure plenty of people will buy the mounts regardless.
But that’s in game progress. Not spending real money. A player’s desire to spend time to farm and a player’s desire to spend real money are not based on the exact same conditions.
I’d be more likely to farm the gold to convert to gems buy a mount than open up my wallet if I had crashing issues or was a WvW player. Which doesn’t give ANet any money.
And you’d have to be very careful with the price of the mount to not make it too out of reach for players who can’t spend money on gems. Otherwise you turn the game into pay to win in that area and that will anger a lot more players, even players who would have otherwise loved collecting or buying mounts.
This is why I mentioned BL weapon skins in the earlier posts. No one will be able to buy all the mounts. And we don’t have to. Just like we don’t have to buy all the BL weapon skins. But we can if we want to.
If people can farm for a legendary which is around 50,000 gems. They can farm out the necessary gold. The gems come from somewhere. Someone has bought them to get gold for their 5th legendary or something. Anything Gem related in the end gives income to ANET. Which is my hidden goal if you want to call it.
You’re linking a legendary’s gem price…. If Anet follow your gem first thinking this game will go fully Free To Play which maybe you want. Gem sales first has done more to hurt this game than any misstep in design ever has or will.
True, but my point is made. We need to help ANET help us. That is a true healthy community. This applies to money as well as intellectual suggestions.
I did that with my purchase of HoT. They’re going to have to do more than add mounts to get me willing to spend money on gems.
And who knows if I’m in the majority or if you’re in the majority.
But either way just mounts won’t save the game. They’ll have to solve the problems the game has to save the game.
For the sake of my OP I have to disagree with you. I truly believe this is the way to saving the game.
You’re seriously saying that fixing the crashing issues or WvW issues won’t go a ways to save the game?
Let’s be realistic here. No one solution will solve the problem. There are too many problems with the game for one solution to fix them all. And ANet’s in serious trouble if it can’t solve the problems that affect peoples’ ability to play the game at a level they enjoy.
Right now, given how low FPS issues are one of the major issues, they really shouldn’t be adding anything to the game that will make that worse. And mounts will very likely make that worse.
Mounts will not make it worse. It is a programming issue. Once it’s fixed, framerate should be regular enough to handle mounts with ease.
Again we are approaching it from different angles. You have no reason to disagree with me at all… I don’t know why you’re still ranting about my OP. If you believe there are better ways than mine, go make your own thread too.
Title it:
Suggestion: Balance and fps issue fix will save the game.
For this thread and for the intents and purposes of this thread, I am fully convinced mounts introduction would save the game from its current situation and allow further restoration of the game. It is a good day for mounts right now. The time is ripe.
All in all, if we do get mounts that are 1700 gems each. remember don’t blame ANET. Blame me.
Soleil,

Let’s talk about lore more.
Convince me that, although the mobs in the game use mounts, the intelligent races in GW2 NEVER thought about using mounts because:
Do NOT give me dev answers or mechanics answers here. Lets talk lore.
Okay, let’s talk lore. And bathrooms.
Bathrooms exist in GW2 lore. Not only do we kind of need something along those lines, but there were some NPCs that discussed them back in old Lion’s Arch (before Scarlet blew it up). But as you explore the game, you don’t ever see them, much less get to use one. They’re there, they’re just not shown.
Several things work like this with the lore and the game, mounts are one of them. If you join the Priory, you get to see the ghost of a dwarven drake mount. And let’s not forget Taimi pretty much uses Scruffy as a mount, often riding on his shoulder as he goes where she directs. And, of course, some NPCs in HoT use them. Beyond this, they’re assumed to be there, somewhere in the background but not shown.
Now, why do we, the Player Characters, not use mounts? Well, we have something better, that’s why. And no, I’m not talking about waypoints and asura gates.
You see, taking care of a mount is a lot of work. Food, grooming supplies, riding gear, and figuring out what to do with it when we’re someplace where we can’t have it with us. In Tyria, we can do better than that. We don’t need to bring a faster animal to ride, we can BECOME the faster animal. Wolves, jaguars, snow owls… all it takes is a small potion or charm. Fast as any mount (lore-wise) and smarter too, we can travel the world without the burdens of caring for an animal big enough to carry us. It’s simple, and actually fairly cheap.
It’s not that we’ve not gotten to horses yet, it’s that we’re past that stage thanks to magic.
This argument does not work for Rangers. Sorry I can’t accept this.
Soleil,
That still doesn’t show why the game needs saving.

True, but my point is made. We need to help ANET help us. That is a true healthy community. This applies to money as well as intellectual suggestions.
Actually I am pretty sure mounts will come soon or later because ANet will make millions from gems to buy mounts at BLTC.
Exactly my hope. What I am saying is… now’s the perfect time to do it. No strings attached, just ANET’s present to the community. Something new, something fresh, something fun.
To be clear, presents aren’t COD.
We have plenty of free presents. The holiday events for one is a free gift to us. I’m aiming for an opportunity for the community to give back to the devs. But they have to give us mounts. It’s really their call. So I’m calling it “presents.”
What you believe and what is true are not necessarily the same thing. So when you say ONLY mounts could do this, you simply haven’t thought hard enough or you’re being sensational, because it’s all you have to ‘prove’ what you believe.
I don’t debate people would pay for mounts. The question is how many at what cost.
I don’t see why you think mounts are the simplest and most cost effective feature to implement for GS offering; nothing ingame right now demonstrates the mechanics necessary for mounts. All the collision, animation, artwork, etc… would need to be coded.
On the other hand, I can think of two things that would be hands down even more simple and cost effective than mounts because the mechanic already exists as a Watchwork pick. If we got a harvesting and logging tool that give bonus mats like WW pick, that would sell better than any mount ever would and for a lower development time and cost as well.
I think in a way us as a community are simply just complaining and asking ANET to simply fix all these problems. I don’t think that’s fair for ANET.
I think us as the community need to put our money where our mouth is and actually invest in this game so that the devs can attack those problems effectively.
Mounts gives us the community a good opportunity to do just that. Invest in the game. And mounts are usually one of the highest priced items in MMOs. That’s one of the reasons why I picked it.
We always have the choice not to buy them. We already have speed buffs to get us by. But having the mount available just helps us the community to invest in the game and get something nice out of it too. I honestly think this is a win win situation.
We just bought an expansion that broke more than it fixed, and watched Anet go Free To Play with our Buy To Play core game. You want us to buy gems…. No.
Be patient, they’ll prove themselves. They always have.
Not the same company.
point taken
Huh? we already have broomstick and flying carpet…but I guess a rideable centaur would not hurt XD …if mount would be a thing make it like broomstick and flying carpet, where your speed is not affected by it, please.
I have the carpet already. But to call these mounts… erm that’s just horribad.
What you believe and what is true are not necessarily the same thing. So when you say ONLY mounts could do this, you simply haven’t thought hard enough or you’re being sensational, because it’s all you have to ‘prove’ what you believe.

Throwing money at a problem doesn’t fix the problem. How that money is spent is how the problem is fixed. If ANet doesn’t put the money towards the problem, the problem doesn’t get fixed. We unfortunately can’t tag our money as “only to be used to fix WvW issues” or “to fix crashing issues only”. ANet gets free reign over how it spends the money.
But at least we get a mount out of it. If you don’t like it, don’t buy a mount. Simple.

Soleil,
That still doesn’t show why the game needs saving.

Your idea is not a solution because you don’t know if it would generate more income than it would cost to create. Furthermore, you don’t know if there is something for the same cost that would generate MORE income than mounts.
Yes I do. The animal models are already there. Turning them into mounts is not hard. I’ve studied Graphical Design my Sophomore year for my Bachelor’s. I know it’s easy when you already have the model in place.
You claim that I don’t know if there is anything else out there. That is a very weak argument. At least I am suggesting a viable option. And it will add income no doubt. Every MMO games have made money off mounts. You can’t deny this.
Is that right? You didn’t say the ONLY thing?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GW2-2016-A-message-to-devs-and-players/first
this thread will give you a better idea of the downward spiral that needs to be stopped. Only mounts can do it.
This is the challenge I’ve already put to you that you refuse to address; WHY mounts? You claim only mounts will save this game from ‘sinking stock prices’ (I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you mispoke or made an inappropriate correlation between NCSoft and Anet here). Why not something else like a gathering tool that has a chance to drop a needed materials or something else more relevant to the gameplay? Mounts would be such a nothing feature in this game.
Take it into context. This is regarding the downward spiral. And I truly believe mounts are the simplest and most cost effective way to do it.
The GW2 game as whole needs a lot of work beyond just mounts to have the perfect fix.
So not just mounts as a whole. But for the downward spiral, mounts is the turning point they need. Something fresh, something new, something a lot of people want, and simple and easy. Also, something people are willing to pay a lot for. This has been proven by other mmos. People pay a lot for mounts, we all know this.
There. You person who can’t do their own research. What has your mother taught you? Do your homework!
I can’t baby sit you and tutor you and have a convo about saving this game all at the same time.
Fiscal Quarter 3 goes from July 1 through September 30. That means anyone who pre-ordered or bought HoT after September 30th are not included in those numbers. And given how slowly ANet trickled information out, could be a large portion of players. There was a content drought in 2015 so that also affected sales for 2015 Fiscal Quarter 3. If 2016 Quarter 1 numbers are down, then there will be a stronger case for ANet being in trouble. 2016 Quarter 4 numbers will likely be up due to HoT’s release.
NCsoft’s current stock prices say no to that.
Stocks can go down because of corporate problems. The stocks could be going down due to one of the other games under NCSoft’s banner. You can’t say the stocks going down are due to GW2.
you can look at GW2 specific numbers. They’re all going down.

Nothing in that link is a stock price and furthermore, that’s NCSoft financial report, not ANet; this just reinforces the fact you don’t understand the relationship these two companies have and how one impacts the other. Let’s put aside the fact you have no idea about the ‘business’ stuff. Let’s move on to what you wanted to focus on:
I’m still waiting for you to explain how mounts is the only thing that will save the game … based on a logical argument related to lore.
I never said that it was the “only” thing. I only claimed that it is “the” thing. A good income will trickle down to resolving the other issues as well. A well-paid engineer can do amazing things a low-budget one will give you low-quality results. None of us want that. As players, we should invest in the game ourselves. Starting with mounts.
Nothing in that link is a stock price and furthermore, that’s NCSoft, not ANet. I’m still waiting for you to explain how mounts is the only thing that will save the game … based on a logical argument related to lore.

It’s clear that you don’t understand. Thanks for trying though.
Funny, you only want to talk lore, then when I challenge your idea from a lore standpoint, you blow me off like I’m too stupid to understand whatever explanation you could give me that links riding animals to lore (which you haven’t done yet, which you need to do if you do want people to talk only about lore for your idea).
It’s your argument; you need to explain your correlation between lore and mounts better, because if I’m not getting it, you’re doing a bad job.
You sound like a college student who slept through the class. Stop. Read the entire thread. Then come back.
I’ve done a wonderful job, it is you that is lacking. Sorry.
BTW, if your going to throw numbers around for whatever data you think is relevant , provide links so people can access your data. You’re not credible at this point; these are your first posts on this forum and I don’t think you have the experience ingame or out to make sensible suggestions anyone should listen to. You’re not saving any time by throwing around arguments to whatever issue you want to confound people with at your leisure.
There. You person who can’t do their own research. What has your mother taught you? Do your homework!
I can’t baby sit you and tutor you and have a convo about saving this game all at the same time.

this thread will give you a better idea of the downward spiral that needs to be stopped. Only mounts can do it.
Going back to the OP and the reason for me still being here:
Convince me that, although the mobs in the game use mounts, the intelligent races in GW2 NEVER thought about using mounts because:
Do NOT give me dev answers or mechanics answers here. Lets talk lore.
Anyway, if this is about lore now, shouldn’t a new thread be started in the Lore forums or this one moved and retitled?
No, this thread is discussing a lot of issues at once. It will save this game in the end.
Soleil.1304 is trolling everyone in thread very much. Funny you do not see this and still respond. . Every time you argue with Soleil you feed dead horse argue. Let thread die. Best can do.
No

I don’t understand what that has to do with lore at all. Just because it’s completely reasonable for the races to ride mounts doesn’t automatically lead anyone to conclude it MUST be introduced to the game for players and that it enhances lore.
If you JUST want to argue based on lore, then the obvious question is if mounts are the most pressing issue that needs to be addressed to improve lore. I’m doubtful it is. In fact, I can’t even understand how the ability to ride a mount affects lore at all. Is my story or immersion enhanced if I’m on a horse, or whatever animal you want to mount? That’s a pretty weak basis to argue for mounts.
You can’t ignore the business side here. Nothing you have written in this thread makes me or anyone else think that mounts are the silver bullet to save the game, especially based on lore. Especially since you haven’t thought of impacts of such a development would require for resources. Not to mention you don’t understand the fact that your basing your whole argument off a poor stock price for a company that doesn’t have publicly traded stocks to begin with. ><
It’s clear that you don’t understand. Thanks for trying though.
Soleil,
That still doesn’t show why the game needs saving.
Uhh…the overlooked goldmine is kittens.
Again.
People will pay out the wazoo for kittens than mounts because kittens can be with you all the time. Thats the real goldmine
-_- I don’t even…
If you know anything about investor pressure, you’ll know what I mean. All the investors who invested in June looking forward to the release date stock rise are probably furious that they lost more than 10% and still haven’t climbed back up even though the release happened a long time ago. I admit it is still on the rise, but it still hasn’t hit the goal even with all the gemstore item releases.
Let’s talk about lore more.

No
Yes. You said we could talk about ideas to save the game.
Kittens will save the game
No

Stock prices are not an indication of how GW2 performs as a game.
Well, since ArenaNet is a privately traded company it doesn’t have a public listing and thus none of us would know what its price is, but let’s not let facts get in the way of anything.
Also stop picking on Soleil.
Look up NCsoft and Anet. You can find them. You’re welcome.

Arenanet has introduced lore, updates, income and variety with a lot of different methods that do not require mounts, these benefits are not worth it in the dev’s eyes, why? Could be a lot of reasons, I’d guess it’s one of these:
a) The % of the population that wants it is way too small.
b) It goes agaisn’t their design philosophy.No
Horse has been beaten over and over and over again, let it die. It’s not happening, if it’s THAT important to you then feel free to move on to a game that meets your mount needs.
No. I already said why.
”That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence”
Hitchen’s Razor. You’ve yet to show any correlation that supports anything you claim, this has been pointed out multiple times in the last page, saying “nanananaaaa I’m right !!” is not an argument.
After three pages of this nonsense I think we should just leave the OP alone. This isn’t the thread you want to be in if you want an actual, intelligent discussion.
Yep, came to that conclusion about halfway through the first page.
Why hasn’t this been merged with the well-known Mounts thread by now? Are the mods on vacation?
Yeah, it seems most of them are on vacation. Curse them for being humans with human needs and weaknesses.
Nope a moderator has already contacted me.
Again, I’m also addressing lore and income. It’s not just about mounts.
