Yeah I mean kiting isn’t hard, but there’s no way that’s what they want you to do for the mission. Running past every enemy then circle strafing for five minutes isn’t exactly an epic last stand.
Never had the opportunity to res any NPCs because I would have died in the process, but at least it wasn’t just me that had trouble.
So yeah, that was pretty stupid. I’m playing an Elementalist, so I can’t take many hits anyway, but this is the first story quest where I thought it was just too much. It was a bit bumpy from the start, but it only went downhill when I had to rescue Mira’s squad from the beach.
There’s however many enemies down there, with more spawning as you dispatch them. It took three separate attempts of slowly getting Mira’s health up as I kept getting interrupted by enemies, and I can barely take a few hits when reviving. Forgal got downed as I was running away from the beach with Mira and figured he was a lost cause as I’d only die trying to get back there.
Running across the courtyard to meet with the charr guy and three enemies spawn and I nearly get killed by them. Poison doesn’t help and they hit hard, and I just couldn’t do enough damage.
Then we get to the beacon. Running up wasn’t too bad, but then I aggroed a few mobs that by this point I knew I simply wouldn’t be able to kill. I run up, activate the beacon, and the mobs already there all join in as I run back. At this point I’ve got six mobs on me as I run back to the courtyard for the final stand, but luckily they deaggro when I get down there.
Now, the last stand. This basically involved me running in circles around the courtyard for the whole encounter. Had to swap out to water and heal myself with everything I had multiple times, and during this whole situation I didn’t kill a single enemy. Not one.
I’m by no means the best player, but I have a fairly good grasp at how to play the game as far as staying alive goes, using trait bonuses and swapping attunements to get rid of conditions and gain buffs etc. However, those don’t help me kill the enemies. I simply couldn’t afford to actively engage any enemy in that scenario because I’d lose due to their high HP and damage output, when I simply can’t stand there and take it.
This may have come across as more of a rant, so I apologise if that’s the case, but this really stood out as me having no chance whatsoever. Given the tone of the mission, this may have been intentional, but I doubt the idea was for me to just run past or circle strafe every enemy until the story finished.
Also it kind of glitched at the end of the mission because Forgal was dead, and it looked like there should have been a scene with him going up against the dragon. All that happened was (after the cutscene conversation between the player and Forgal), my character model just disappeared, then a couple of seconds later the door to the courtyard slammed shut. Then the screen just went black as Forgal said some stuff. Not sure if that was meant to happen, but yeah.
Why is Earth S/D so good? I’m not saying you’re wrong at all, I just don’t find it very good. The auto-attack is ok, but 2 isn’t a great skill I don’t think. 3 is just a quick blind with barely any damage, and while 4 is a great interrupt, it’s not that strong. 5 is obviously strong, but with such a long cast, it hardly seems worth it.
A discussion about this could be awesome, because I’m getting a bit bored of my pretty much constant S/D Fire, and I don’t think the build I have is very good either. Don’t stand a chance in dungeons, but then I totally forgot about staff, just waiting for a decent one to drop.
Any other advice from anyone?
Hey everyone. I’m not coming in here to rant about how dungeons need nerfing or that random groups need to play better; I’m asking for advice. I’m level 52 and I’m playing an Elementalist. I’ve only tried AC so far (story mode twice and explorable once), all to completion.
The simple version of my question is this: is it possible to get through a dungeon without dying?
I’ve only done the dungeon in random groups, but the most recent time I completed it, the other players had all completed it many times and explained everything to me pretty well. That said, everyone was downed and died many, many times, and I lost count of the amount of times we all had to rush back from the waypoint.
I’m not playing a glass cannon either, if that helps. As far as traits go I’ve got 20 points in Earth and Water, with the remaining points going in Fire until I get to 60 and can unlock the next book. Half of my gear is a mixture of vitality, toughness and healing power, and the rest is power and condition damage. I’m using a scepter/dagger combo as well, but I’m going to have another look at the staff and scepter/focus skills when I log back in soon.
It just feels like, in the few times I’ve completed the dungeon, that it’s more by luck than judgement. That and every fight feels like a battle of attrition with the sheer amount of time it takes to kill each mob and the amount of running back from waypoints.
While I fully appreciate that people like to learn by doing, I don’t want to throw all my money away on repairs just yet. Any advice would be appreciated, whether it’s for gear, skills or simple tactics. I’d rather not just watch Youtube videos on how to get past the traps and how to kill mobs, but when they throw you into a room of flaming gargoyles and you go down in a matter of seconds if you don’t know where the switches to turn them off are, you can understand why people do it.
Thanks! I’m expecting people to rip me apart for not being good enough, but I figured I’d give it a go.
