Summation of high risk concerns for elementalist.

Diamond Skin
We really love this trait as it opens up some very powerful potential in the earth line to run a defensive elementalist without relying on healing power. The strength of this build is going to be the ability to quickly string small heals together to maintain that condition resistance. I think it could see use in both high damage builds looking to avoid weakness and blind, as well as in defensive builds looking to tank condition heavy classes and condition heavy mobs. I think the big question here is the base health/armor of the elementalist. Of course if you are just an elementalist you just want us to raise these, but balance must work around some fixed things and profession health and armor are an important part of defining what a profession is so that we can create powerful tools that players can actively use to circumvent these weaknesses. In this case if this trait is not powerful enough to be a grandmaster, I believe the right answer is going to be to lower the threshold, not to increase elementalist base health.

Aquamancer’s Alacrity
We moved this trait because all profession cooldown traits are in master tier, and because that is a good investment for this type of improvement. That being said, they may all not be powerful enough to warrant a master level triat right now, but I would rather increase the cooldown to 25% to get people to consider them than to have them be adept tier and allow elementalists to run all four of them.

Cleansing Wave
This is the one I am most on the fence about of all of the elementalist changes. It is a borderline master level trait and I think a better solution would be to leave it at adept tier and instead of moving Soothing Wave (which is only moving because it is better to have a 100% worthless trait at adept tier rather than master tier) we would redesign Soothing Wave into something worthy of master level.

Arcane Abatement
This is moving to adept tier because all of the fall damage traits are in that tier and in our opinion it doesn’t feel good to have to spend 20 points in a line for this kind of trait. Alacrity was the first choice to swap with it here because of the reasons stated above.

Soothing Disruption vs Cantrip Mastery
This one was debated internally for a while as well. I think swapping these traits would also help build diversity as it would let you splash 10 points in water to get Cantrip recharge, but would make you really consider going into water magic for the Regen and Vigor which is much more flavorful. I would love to hear some elementalist thoughts on that potential change.

Last but definitely not least.

Arcana
I see the logic in not wanting the two changes in this line to counter each other. Moving good adept traits to master level is contrary to reducing the need to spec into this line. That being said, Elemental Attunement is just a beast of a trait and could honestly be compared with most grandmaster traits. I think a good compromise would be to place Renewing Stamina back in the adept tier, placing is where the other professions get this type of trait, and instead move Final Shielding to the master tier where it could live alongside Arcane Retribution as two good choices in arcane builds that take Arcane Mastery in the adept tier. That could leave some interesting builds such as: 0/30/30/0/10 for fresh air, diamond skin, and renewing stamina. It also still leaves builds that put only 10 points in Arcana a chance to gain Protection by going 30 air for Tempest Defense, and 10 Earth for Elemental Shielding and still have 30 points leftover.

I still believe there is work to be done at the grandmaster tier in Fire at the very minimum and that Air and Water are the only truly good grandmaster choice right now. There are also still a handful of just terrible traits that will still get looked at, but we felt like we were already bordering on changing too much.

this sounds very bad, I like to play d/d. I need fighting in melee range with low armor, low HP. If the fight starts I have a lot of ccs to avoid dmg but after 15-20 secs all is on cd. Then i need vigor from Renewing Stamina and protection from Elemental Attunement only to survive. If I can choose only one in future it would very bad because the pressure from other classes will just over roll me.

So i am not happy with this idea. I think it will hit d/d ele very hard. More then all other ele weapons.

is is very bad and for dd builds a hard nerf

why they can not buff other traids, builds without nerfing our current viable? If they want that we use other builds they should make them more viable.

Just put 15 or 20 sec cd on burst skills and problem is solved …

and put 60 seconds on shatter,steal and pet skills.Problem solved

Flamewall is so useless

i think the idea with might to allies when they cross is a good one. But that skill would be still very useless they should add a 1 sec fear effect like the spectral wall from necro. Lower duration from 8 sec to 4 sec or 5 sec and make it as skill 5 with 40 sec CD and fire shield as skill 4 with 20 sec cd.

Will the real spell-caster please stand up?

Lightning Flash is basically the mesmers Blink, and we have FGS.

basically yes but there are important and game changing difference.

1. Mesmer Blink CD 30 sec! (LF 40 sec)
2. Mesmer Blink break stuns
3. Mesmer Blink can teleport on higher or lower grounds

And yes FGS has good mobility but you need to root yourself 1 sec. In a situation you need to run a 1 second root is really bad.

Yes, this is good info here. Points 1 and 3 should be looked at in particular with regards to ele’s Lightning Flash.

Point 2 is by design, they moved the stun breaks to Signet of Air and Glyph of Elemental Power.

On that point, I think Cleansing Fire needs a buff as well to compensate for the fact that it’s no longer a stun break.

If they fixed Lightning Flash with regards to your point 3, kept the 40s cooldown, but increased the range you can travel to about 1200 or so, we’d be golden.

Point 3 -> they changed it. LF was like Mesmer blink. I don`t think they change it back.

It would be nice to know if there is any plan. And i don`t talk about things like "make bad traits better so that there in line with “good” ele traits". Because they’re still bad when compared with other.

It’s time to stop now guys!
Ele has received few nice buffs that make some roles more viable and some fix that increase the class viability overall, the devs have learnt their lesson so don’t expect OP buffs aka warrior/necro/thief types.
It’s possible to adapt your style with we’ve got now, the last patch overall was really good, just do your best and wait for more changes..at the very least you know that no massive nerfs coming our way

sorry but ele is still very weak in spvp.

Full burst fresh air works only in some situations good for example if your target is full glass or you catch him with pants down when your team fight and you can do your things without any attention. You are squishy as hell and sometimes you need to burst your downed target because otherwise he kill you with downstate auto attack.
If your target is bunker they easy heal your first burst chain do a little pressure and you need to run. If they doge or block your first burst chain the thing is over to.

You can play a full bunker build then it is not very easy to kill you, but you kill nearly nothing without help. It could happen that you run with 3 mates and get no points for killing people because your dmg was not high enough.

All in all you can play ele in spvp, you will make your points. But every enemy with the same skill level beat the kitten out of you. Even with a lower skill level.

OP Warriors will baffed again..

If you would take the effort to understand and read my whole comment, maybe you and others would understand.

If a profession oneshots you from range while you were in a teamfight and didn’t even notice the ele, is that balanced? It’s just that if they are focused they die too fast. But if they will become harder to kill and their dmg won’t be changed, people will cry for an ele nerf.

At the moment burst ele is only in a good position when no one cares about him. But this is very very rare. You can stand in a group of 5 and Ele will be in many cases first target.
Give a burst ele only a little pressure and he need to run. Give him around 1400 dmg and he make 20% less dmg. Read what aleks wrote.

And when you are sad about that a ele can nearly one shot you from range. Then try a burst ele and you will be sad that Warrior/Ranger/DMG-Guard/Burst-Engi/Necro can kill you so fast that you think it was a one shot. (One the egde nobody make a real one shot.)
And do not be surprised when you meet some Guards/Warriors/Necros/Ranger who easy heal your supposedly “ridiculous” burst dmg.

Yes ele that can literally oneshot you in a blink of any eye without anything to dodge because all happens in a split second is surely underpowered.. no.

Ele is OP. Very OP. It’s just that the meta does not let them take over because of the condition pressure.

Yes sure that`s why you see mass ele in spvp / tpvp nearly every match has three ele in every team… oh wait.

maybe my english is my Problem. I never written D/D ele is useless in wvwvw. I never written something about your discussion with lord about wvwvw zerg and all this things. When you understand that then you understand it wrong.

I know all ele d/d skills and how to use them, i play this class more then enough. You write about your experience with your d/d ele in wvwvw. It is ok. I play nearly only spvp solo and there things look different. There is no lack on equip or skill points like wvwvw. You write it`s a l2p problem when I loose a 1vs1. You think so too in spvp (I don`t play bunker built)? I don`t know you and what you play but when you made your experience only or mostly in wvwvw you maybe should stop bashing wvwvw noobs (yea T1 or T2 or what ever server doesn`t matter) and play some competitive spvp. Do some matches with your ele maybe 1000 or some more and you will know what i mean with “if you perma cripple or chilled them then they switch to long range weapon”. And no i don`t mean that d/d ele is bad or loose a lot. If you can Play you will win a lot but you will not win all.

You written ele class has many cc & snare. More then all other classes. I told you that it is wrong most other classes can have it too if they want. Nothing more i tryed to tell you. If you don`t want to hear that or don`t want to understand that i can`t change it.

“Only stuns enemies using attacks with range less than 600 units, with some exceptions " That is what you can read on gw2 wiki. But try it out. A ranger with longbow, a thief with pistol, engi with rifle, are for example this exceptions. I think that include all high and mid range weapons / spells.

That is the reason why I don`t count it because it work only in some settings. It is not a skill that will work if you hit.

Weakeness from Lightning Touch
Yes it is big especially against thiefs and warroirs. But one little mistake, if I understand it right. Only 50% from all non crit hits will be glancing blows with 50% dmg. Anyway everytime i am on air i try to lande it. But it land like the old fire grap so hit like **** when target is running.

Chilled
Is big too. But again a little mistake or i understand it wrong. They don`t attack 66% slower the recharge time of any skill is 66% slower. Don`t know if autoattacks included.

CC in General
Maybe it is a point of Definition what is cc and what not. I read a little bit and found defintions they said “cc is when you loose complete controle about your char” and i found definitons they said snare / immo a part of soft CC stun / knockdown / knockback are hard CC. Anyway i think it is different from game to game. Lets look what http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crowd_control say.

I wouldn`t say so. We paid it with some things. For example
- No weapon swap
- low base health
- low base armor
- High miss rate on many skills (air autoattack is nice )
- Stuck in one range
- High CD on hard CC and High CD on burst dmg

And other classes have cripple / chilled / weakness too maybe not all toghter but at least one or two of them with low CD. Or they choose 2 weapons complete without them. But then they got vulnerability or at least high dmg Output.

anyway, cripple chilled, weakness doesn`t help you when your Opponent just swap to a range weapon and give you much pressure only with autoattacks.

No you say it never direct to me. You just say that i don`t know the mechanism of my class. But for me is exactly this Point a huge part of being a noob.

Basically you are either making up lies to try to prove your point or you haven’t truely learned how to play D/D to it’s fullest potential and haven’t learned the power of all of our weapon skills. Either way it doesn’t make the D/D Ele useless.

I don`t know if you notice this but when i understand it right I talk about cc & immobilization? Not about snare. Maybe you didn`t see it but I also don`t count snare and other skills with for example weekness effect from warrior like

Fierce Blow 12 sec cd | 8 sec weakness
Hammer Shock 12 sec cd | 7 sec cripple
Hamstring 15 sec cd | 7 sec cripple
Fear Me 80 sec cd | 1-3 flee (one more cc)

And when i would write like you. I would write now that you try to hold peoples opinion down with calling them noobs because they have no knowlege about their own class. Or that you are such a big noob that you don`t know the differents between CC/immo and snare.

You understand what I mean? Why not talking without affront? Should be possible or not?

Another Thing
“Shocking Aura – 4 second duration stunned every time enemy hits you. 25 second CD.” Works only when they hit you with meele attacks.

Dragon’s Tooth

I’ve been noticing that if I am CC’d while Dragon’s Tooth animation is going on the spell does no damage.

for example I cast Dragon’s Tooth. Finish the cast. Get CC. Dragon’s Tooth land while i am in cc. Dragon’s Tooth deal no damage.
