I have been seeking an answer or fix action to the problem I am experiencing when attempting to login to GW2. When I attempted to login tonight the patch system started like it normally does, but when it finished the login screen never appeared.
I have seen the fix action to remove the bin file from GW2 folder, that didn’t work.
I have seen the fix action to remove SweetFX or GemFX, I don’t have those files as far as i can tell.
I have seen the fix action to use -autologin -nopatchui -email YOUREMAILHERE@YOUREMAIL.com -password YOURPASSWORDHERE and this did not work mainly because I don’t know where to put the text.
I am hoping that this problem simply fixes itself overnight, but would like some feedback from those that may have been experiencing the same problem and resolved it.

I wanted to thank you on my knees for fixing the double skin issue of the Vision of the Mists… finally after months and months
And then people come along and flame that their double hilts are gone… THAT IS HOW THE WEAPON IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK. Its not that its supposed to look buggy having 2 swords.
And to those who flame because of the missing glowing effect while not weilding it:
It is supposed to be like that! If you don’t weild the weapon, its totally fine that the particle effect is not present. When you take out the weapon the effect is present.
Just the way it was supposed to be changed months ago.
So please Arenanet stop listening to flames who just want their weapons to glow like the freaking sun and start fixing the skin bugs with the weapons.
Thank you!
Are you a designer on the Anet team or have some official word from the devs on if the weapon is supposed to look when holstered?
In my opinion, the weapons should remain the way they are as this is how they have been advertised since launch. People have spent many hours gathering materials and gold to have a flashy weapon and would like to keep what they intended to buy. If this was not the intended outcome, then it should have been made clear much earlier in the life of the game instead of just changing it to not glow.
I know for a fact that if Aether was not designed to glow while on the back of my character, I would not have spent that much time and effort into creating the bow.

The bow Aether is having the same issue and had its visual effects stripped from it while stowed.
Jason King posted his response just before I got my issue up. Thanks Jason, we look forward to the weapons having their visual effects restored.
The bow Aether has this same issue. I have posted a message on the bugs forum at the link below if you would like to keep an eye on the subject.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Aether-visual-effects-broken/first#post1520628
I am hoping that the visual effects changes to Aether were not intentional and will be restored. The bow no longer has a ghostly (smokey) look to it when it is holstered on the back of the character. Once the bow is in the characters hand and being used, the visual effect returns.
Anyone seen any official information on this as I did not see any in the patch notes?
I just noticed this bug (hopefully) downgraded the visual effects on my Aether bow as well. I sincerely hope Anet fixes this issue with a hot fix soon.

I spend 90% of my time in dungeons or fractals with a good group and have my ranger set up to compliment the group. I run full power/precision gear, have pet on passive all the time and swap it out for the 2 second quickness buff. I also run QZ, battle roar, frost spirit and RaO to boost damage.
This is in no way a WvW build, but works great in dungeons when you have a tank build player in the group.

I am the one on the switch, and if everyone else does their part the door is open in 4-6 seconds. This is how I do it.
Stand in front of the first door and equip my sword/WH and a bear pet. As soon as everyone is in place, the first door opens and the fire shield comes down off the switch. I put the bear pet on the silver mob waiting, I pop RaO and WH 5 and4 which is CoW and birds attack I believe. By now you should be at or on the switch hitting it with birds and your sword. Pop QZ and watch the switch go down, if it does not and QZ is gone, I swap my pet out for another 2 seconds of quickness and it is down for sure. At any time during the encounter with the switch, if the silver switches to you, pop signet of stone and ignore him.
So, you are looking at 4-6 seconds if it is done right and I have not had a problem ever in a guild group reproducing this. In a PUG, it is a different story and I often have to swtich to SB and keep a distance between myself and the silver.
Very easy if you know how to do it and everyone does their part. This also works post 28 Jan patch. Although, there was one difference that I had never seen before. The silver actually ran out of the switch room and went to the rest of the group which only made my job easier.
I am interested in this as well. I made some choices at character creation that I have grown to dislike. Looking forward to the option to re-customize if/when it is available.
I have enjoyed playing my Ranger since early release, but as of last week I have just about stopped logging in completely. I find myself sitting and chatting in guild chat because my Ranger has been reduced to a pin cushion for other classes to beat on. I used to win 75% of my 1v1 battles in WvW, but since the patch I am down near 10% in the win department. I have full exotic gear to include all of the accessories.
In order to follow the OP template, here is my opinion.
I think the Ranger was good, but is now a bad class to play. They have no real utility in a group and the pet commonly misses attacks. Additionally the SB was nerfed to a point that it is nearly not usable in WvW because a Warrior or Mesmer or just about any other class will smack your face around while you try to apply 8 bleeds to them. Melee on the Ranger, just try it and let us know how that goes for you. If you choose to go with the LB, then get ready for a lot of missing and slow cast times.
This is merely my opinion, but starting tonight I think I am going to take a couple of weeks off from the game and see where Anet is after that. If things have not improved, I will either re-roll another toon or just take an extended break and maybe move on to something else.
Freky is right on the money. Anet did a patch the other day that makes the Ranger nearly useless in WvW. I am now looking to shelf my full exotic gear Ranger that I have really enjoyed playing. As a matter of fact, I am contemplating just taking a break from the game for a couple of weeks and see if the issues with the Ranger are resolved.
If not, I will probably re-roll a Theif or Mesmer.
