We just had the same thing with final boss at 30% ‘ish health… everyone gets a load screen and we’re on a completely new map that closes in 53min.
Anyone know why this is happening? Saw people mention it’s not the first time so maybe there’s some way to avoid it?
It would’ve made a lot more sense to make the goal something like X mordrem kills instead of events completed. That way everyone could’ve stayed at each site until it was finished before moving on.
As it is right now I’m spending half the event looking at loading screens jumping between sites. My laptop is pretty bad so loading times aren’t the the best either..
And like other posters mentioned, it’s not such a big issue for us long-time players as we’ve seen this before. But players who recently picked up gw2 and get exposed to this…. It’s not a very good experience to be exposed to at an early stage of trying out what otherwise is a great game.
Having said that, for me as an experienced player with an account full of lvl 80s this is a lot better than nothing new at all. Anything that gives us something to do other than running one of the grindfests or doing map completion on yet another alt is much appreciated.
Well, just did it with my guardian, took me six or seven burn phases. Turns out he’s not going down again once he hits the 25-30% area so you can just take your time and use whatever ranged you have. Anyway, using a combination of the staff and sword ranged attacks I managed to take it down after almost exactly an hour (excluding mid-fight break).
First or second burnphase I managed to get in close and land a few hits with one of the sword autoattacks but kept getting knocked down unless I could keep stability up so I had to get back, avoid aoe and use ranged skills.
I would like to say I will never ever do it again but knowing how ridiculously useless this instance is I’ll probably end up helping guildmates finish it whenever they need to.
In other words, still broken and still no word devs are aware of the problem.
Just did this fight for the first time. Was on Guardian, and thought I was just being dumb when I couldn’t damage him with great sword. Thought there must be some mechanic I was missing. Finished the fight with scepter.
This is just asinine. It’s been broken since March 15th!? I just bought it after a break; and A.net is REALLY dropping the ball on this bug. I dont even want to finish this because Scepter Damage is literally worthless.
Not really. You have more than enough time to burn him down to during each of the burn phases as you would have had with greatsword. It maybe prolongs the fight an additional min at most and I’m only saying that under the assumption that killing him faster with greatsword transitions the player to the next phase quicker rather than there being a set interval regardless of the damage done.
Really? I’m doing it at the moment (had to take a break, been at it for 45minutes) and each burn phase I rotate my staff and sword to access the ranged attacks and I manage to burn off about 5-6% health each burn phase.
The whole point of these threads is that we’re being forced to choose a certain set of weapons or classes to complete this instance in reasonable time. I’m pretty sure that it was never anets intention that the instance should take well over an hour to solo since the living world content is supposed to be completely soloable. It’s obviously a bug that they’ve completely deprioritized and for some reason refuse to acknowledge.
For anyone who’s trying to do the achievements. If you go in the instance with a group and have the character who wants the achievement die just at the beginning phase with the tendrils (without getting hit by rocks) and have the rest of the party finish the instance you’ll get all the APs. Then just restart and let the next character in the group stay dead while you complete it.
Just make sure you have at least one, preferably two ranged characters alive at all times or it will take you several hours…
Does anyone know if you still can use a mesmer portal to port outside the arena while people inside finishes it for the avoiding rock achievement?
Did you ever see a dev say it is? If so please link it so I can stop whining about this
Yes, I can complete it by piggybacking on other ranged characters. But if it’s broken it would be stupid to just accept it as it is. Especially since it seems to create a lot of frustration for players which I’m sure can’t be the point of the instance.
What’s the range of the scepter? My dps guardian has a GS and a staff but I only managed to do a few % damage in the entire first burn phase. Tried to stand in front of, behind, under, inside the head but nothing seemed to help. A warrior with a hammer and a sword managed to do a bit of damage with a hammer bash attack but not with anything else.
I do tons of damage with my zerker ranger and just finishing the instance is easy enough.. even more so with a party. The question is whether it is working as intended or if it’s actually broken.
I don’t know if anyone is aware of this bug (?) since I can’t find any devs commenting on this issue at all and it’s apparently been “broken” since, at least, March. If this is working as intended we can suck it up and learn to deal with it (or kitten about poor game design) or if it’s actually broken either way it would be nice to know.

As it is today melee characters can’t land hits on the shadow of the dragon in the mystery cave instance with the exception of a few AOE attacks making this instance extremely slow to attempt to do solo.
Since it, in its current state, is a very very frustrating instance it’s very hard to find players to do it and even more so to find players who actually know it in order to help get the achievements. So unless the whole point of the instance is to force people to roll ranged characters it might be in order to either fix the hitbox or significantly reduce the health of the dragon (in case it’s too much work to do something about the hitboxes).

Can’t find any posts about it in the bug section. I’ll give the instance another shot today and unless it’s been fixed overnight I’ll make a forum post in the proper section and then I just suggest we discuss it (in great detail over and over and over again) until it gets enough attention.
Also, file in-game support tickets for this and recommend all party members that can’t hit the dragon to do the same.
If we spam it enough they can’t ignore it.
Again.. I’m not a game dev, but if it’s too hard to fix the hitboxes just reduce the total hp to something like 1/4 of it’s current value and the fight will be bearable even if only 5% of your hits lands. I realize this will make the fight veeerry easy for some professions but as it is right now it’s just stupid.
It sucks to have this rage-quit-level useless instance when the rest are enjoyable.
Are you supposed to be required to use a ranged weapon to hit this dragon? I tried to do it with my zerker guardian and only managed to take 3% health off in the first burn phase… lets just say I left the instance about 5 seconds after that..
Tried again today with a different character and a guildie and when we did close to no damage at all I looked at the combat log and noticed I wasn’t doing any damage except for one of my AOE attacks…
The usual recommendation I get for this instance is to get more friends… only problem is no one wants to do it. And I can see why..
Anyway, is this supposed to be like this or is it broken?

I just came back from a break recently and the last couple of days I’ve had people join my newly created LFG groups with their friends and just instantly vote kick me out of my own group without saying a word.
I don’t know who came up with the idea for this function but it’s obvious this community can’t handle it. And to be honest I can’t see anything good coming from it but then again I’m not a game dev so what do I know?

I’m trying to get the achievements for the lumi gear and bought echoes of the past yesterday. Completed it on my ranger to unlock achievements and then switched to my guardian to get more carapace pieces and unlock achievements. Just finished the first part with the mine corpses and should’ve been given two achievements for the escort and mining all corpses but after completing it I got nothing.
So the question is, do I have to finish the episode for every character I want to do achievements with or should it be enough to just unlock the achievements on my first character and then get the achievements as I go through them again with alts?

Since this thread is over 5 months old I figured I’ll post in here since the bug is still active. I’ve played 170h and just learned today that “ui scale normal” fixes it. I’d rather play with a barely readable TP than playing with a huge UI though… So here’s to hoping they’ll fix it one of these days…
