I run glamour and confusion during zerg fights but not during small group roaming. I rarely take that reflection skill but it is useful when fighting condition thieves and engineers. I focus more on damage while keeping up my defensive stats.

I think putting 10 points into illusions allows me to change that trait depending on situation. I have to maintain the rest of the points (20/30/10/0/5) for necessary traits. It’s just that 5…somewhere

Hi guys. I’ve been playing around with my mesmer’s gear and build recently and have constantly been debating over where I should put 5 points into. I run greatsword and sword (with offhand based on situation, most times I use sword).

20/30/10/0/10 putting 10 into illusions for reflection. Recently, I’ve been seeing tons of condition engineers and that reflect really helps me out with their scary dps.
Do you guys think those 5 points can be put somewhere else?
If I go 25/30/10/0/5, I will receive 5% more damage to inactive foes (not casting skills).
If I go 20/30/15/0/5 I will receive a 3 second protection which can save me from bursts.
If I go 20/30/10/0/10 I can switch out the trait there for reflection, bonus damage for each illusion, etc. which can come in handy in every situation.
What are your opinions?

Gear I use:
3 Soldiers for big stat pieces
3 Knights for small stat
Cavalier back and rings
Zerker ammy with vitality
1 Zerker Accy and 1 allstat

same LOL. I am also anxious to see what will happen next. Will GoM move down to T8 or will SF rise to T7? As for now, SF is stuck here for awhile.

if vk leaves ferg, then sf would have an easier time in t8. everyone wants them to move out, including themselves. i hope this gets fixed somehow because those “free transfers to medium pop servers” are not enough to match their numbers. besides, right when transfers started rolling in for both servers, they became a high pop and kept it that way often which made it harder to transfer. maybe should’ve reconsidered just free transfers to those servers without limiting its size (meaning, servers should have been predetermined or starting out with medium pop and will be free until said date).

Needs more incentive to do things like escorting dolyaks, defending points (as opposed to running with the zerg), doing WvW events (aside from the nodes, orges, etc.), need to put further reqs on becoming a commander (we’re opening commander to people who need ZERO experience), need to remove AOE restrictions (Limit of five targets, seriously? That’s BEGGING people to travel in zergs).

Honestly, the AOE thing that the original poster stated doesn’t bother me all that much. Siege is already a HUGE benefit, and – aside from other siege – AOE is often the ONLY effective manner to take it down. I feel like it balances out – it’s something that can be done by either side.

I definitely agree that there should be more incentives for smaller aspects of WvW. Roamers taking camps, escorting dolyaks, or anything apart from the main zerg should be rewarded. Seriously… we don’t even get anything from escorting dolyaks…

Well at the moment, the only options are ET and FC (medium pop free transfers). We first wanted to head to HoD but now it seems that it’s keeping a high pop often times so it’s hard to get a big number of people to transfer.

Spitfire, as someone on Sorrow’s Furnace that constantly dominates ET and FC, I would make arguments for transferring to FC if it’s a choice between the two. FC’s skill level is very impressive, it’s their numbers that hurt them. They have also received some additional numbers from higher tiers as well, that has brought them up even further and has made them incredibly fun to fight.

ET already has numbers, they just need to improve their overall skill. Beyond that they recently lost skilled members of their most notable WvW guild.

If FC holds us off it’s due to tactics, if ET ever holds us off it’s due to numbers. Being a player who enjoys the more strategical side of the game, I would push for FC.

That being said, if it were me, I would guest over to each server, hop in LA and get a feeling for the community and ask your questions there, that’s probably better off than asking for selective opinions on the forums.

edit: Not to mention that recruiters are going to make their servers look much better than they actually are, which is annoyingly dishonest.

HEY! Thanks a lot. This really helps. HoD was our first pick but it might be a little hard now that it is constantly reaching high pop every time I check. FC actually does have great players and I think it would greatly help them. I actually fought FC back when I was in Kaineng and yes, surprisingly, they are very tough small group fighters.

Gotcha. Although I strictly am showing Midnight Fire just on shoulders. I am not comparing the color of Midnight Fire on all the armors, just the different sections within the shoulderpads.

I am having issues with dying my clothes using the Midnight Fire color. It shows dark on clothing but brown on other sections… I have provided screenshots, take a look. I want it to be black on all sections…

Has anyone ever been a victim of the blinding powder trait that activates when you go below a certain health percentage proc RIGHT when you do a cloak and dagger? The result is it pops you out of stealth… and I’ve died a couple times because of that.

I like taking this tree and yes it is a helpful trait but this is the only problem that I’ve encountered.. it gets in the way of cloak and dagger stealth.

You can actually attack while stealthing :P just keep cloak and dagger, wait until you unstealth (just a second before) and cloak and dagger again. That skill still deals decent damage, especially with a crit damage gear/build while also stealthing you

I’ve tried both glass cannon and conditions and the reason why condition builds have better survival is because of the traits taken. Most glass cannons take power and crit tree and they leave out the available survival skills such as 1 second longer stealths, blinds when going into stealth, etc.

After playing with a lot of different builds, I came up with a build with the help of other thief friends. This is a backstab build with the playstyle of a p/d thief. I haven’t gotten the time to add builds and gear to the description but I’ll add asap!

I tried going smoke field stealth but I feel that cloak and dagger uses less initiative without giving yourself away. Sometimes, when you heartseeker through the field, you might hit a player/mob which also unstealths you.

Yeah I know the population is huge. Maybe I’m scouting for a good small, friendly guild within those servers that love to travel in small organized groups and try to achieve big goals. We are in a big guild right now and I feel that we don’t connect as well with the players since there are too many.

I’ve played on a couple servers and have faced a ton and have learned their strengths and weaknesses. Can you guys describe the top 3 tier servers? Ex: “hellokitty server” very resilient. has good offense but leaves players on defense at held points. lack of players during said hours.

With that said, I might be looking for a server to transfer to for me and my close friends and yes I am aware of the gems to transfer payment. With the upcoming WvW updates in a couple months, I think we might become a bit more active (also since summer is coming up!) so I want to see which servers fit our playstyle perfectly. We are a small group that love to accomplish goals without being part of a zerg. A good group for us might be a roaming guild that not only searches for player kills but also try to achieve what a normal zerg would do like take over garrison with maybe 10+ people or something.
We would love a home of a wvw dedicated server (bonus if one has an established community voip). I’ve already been in a couple huge guilds but we want to stand out instead of be a part of something big. We also tried making our own guild but it was a bit too small (10~ players).

After weeks on end of climbing up the tiers with the advantage of our numbers and coverage, Kaineng has finally reached a match against two great forces that will bring great joy in fighting over the next week(s). This will be quite interesting.. GET READY FOLKS! ITS ON!

Pretty fun idea! I just thought it’s very similar to the already implemented defense events when you go to a tower and the timer counts down but with more options. It does give people an incentive to follow commands but I’m not entirely sure how everyone will react. There is the “Join Squad” option which is handy but there are players who don’t even know that option exists. I do agree that there needs to be some kind of improvement for commanders; give them a little more to work with! :P

Kinda funny. I transferred from t1 to play with friends when Kain was in dead last in rankings. To be honest the zerg v zerg really isn’t all that different from T1 to T9 or whatever it was. It’s just more of it. Kain has so far zerged our way up to T4. I think t3 really won’t be much different. I highly doubt T2 will be that much harder. Kain win because of coverage , we have very very good guilds at off peak hrs. You can’t beat that. In t2 the servers will have better coverage in off peak hrs than lower tiers but I highly doubt any server has the zerg Kain has between 2 and 8 am est.

Maguuma has also gotten tons of transfers and from what I’ve heard in forums, they are in the same boat as us with the amount of zergs but more experienced players. Also, our pugs are very new to the upper tiers while our future enemies have been in this tier for awhile so tactics will come into play with the next matchup. Dragonbrand…really scared for their primetime.

Well I really enjoyed reset night, but here is a quick comparison of our last 2 reset nights;

1) Reset vs Maguuma, they had our YBBL 100% in 30 min and were ticking at 500+ within a couple hours.
2) Reset vs Kaineng, we kept 60% of our YBBL for all of NA prime and were only 3K points behind for the first 7 hours. Kain didn’t start to tick 500+ until well after NA prime was over.

Both servers are strong, but based just reset I would have to say Maguuma is the stronger server during NA prime and were much more organized and had stronger tactics in assaulting the entire BL. We could easily tell where Kain was going which made it much easier for us to counter attack/defend. We also had no problem taking a good chunk of Kaineng’s BL during the first few hours, where vs Maguuma we were steam rolled right out of the gate.

Will be interesting to see where everyone falls over the next few weeks, T4 will always have one of the 24/7 coverage servers so I don’t really see T4 being an evenly matched tier anytime soon.

Do remember that Kaineng IS new to these new tiers. Mag has been staying constantly in the mid and top tiers so they have the experience and better overall tactic knowledge. Kaineng is a mix of many differently skilled players of WvW and surely will experience challenges that the top tiers will bring to them. Nonetheless, we will see who will transfer out or who will stick through it.

My thoughts for next tier would be a fun and tough fight ahead of us with constant shifting back and forth between the tiers. To me, this shifting is much more fun than staying top tier and fighting the same 2 servers for weeks on end.

Just a simple question, is it considered abuse of culling if you use mesmer veils or any other type of stealth ability prior to charging into a zerg?

well its time for me to sleep lol. Hours on end of waiting for reset night and then 6 hours of straight wvw.. x.x g’night! It’s been a fun matchup so far! Can’t wait to log back in again, hoping there’s no queue :P

Specially when you separate and slaughter a few of em during said merry chase.

Seems you’ve been beaten down multiple times and have brought your personal issues to forums. What do you plan on accomplishing here? Either you man up and accept your loss or don’t post at all. You are what defines a sore loser.

A good group is not made out of skilled players but players who work well together, covering each other’s weaknesses and enhancing friendly abilities. No matter what guild or server you’re in, this can be achieved through great communication.
