So, with the Dec 10th balance preview, we get Spirit Rangers being even more viable earlier on as well as allowing for more points to be spread around later game.
This makes me think of the potential of Banner Warriors since they can’t quite take around their minor army of banners. This got me to think about an idea that I’ve had before. Warriors should be able to trait into wearing one banner that they summon on their back, letting them carry the buff around with them while also retaining full use of their weapons. This would also allow them to carry up to two banners, letting banners carry a more general use feel while still not removing the ability to just drop four banners into a bigger battle.
This also got me thinking of more ways banners can be made useful, and it got me to think of an idea that it would be cool to allow for banners to be even more useful. Warriors should be able to equip banners they drop in an empty off hand. The idea is having nothing equipped in their off hand or having no weapon swap would give them the option to pick up the banner in just their offhand. This way, they can retain the combat viability they want (sword/mace/ax) while also carrying around a banner and not needing to baby sit it or dedicate themselves to moving banners around the battle field.
The game already seems to want to support odd amounts of equipment, for example you can equip a main hand and off hand in one weapon slot and you can also equip just an offhand in the other and when you switch, you keep your main hand and only switch offhand. This is stuff built into the game, but it doesn’t really support it by putting any interesting features into it and I think they should think about neat ways to use that unexplored system.
This also got me to think about the thief class, which has an even weird reaction to weapons. The third skill changes based on what you’re wielding in your offhand and there is one dedicated to not having an off hand.
I think that they should be able to equip bundles that they steal in their empty offhand and gain elementalist summon weapon style charges.
Imagine getting a Plasma and having 10 charges that all get wasted if you just eat it for all the boons, or you can use one charge and gain a random boon.
Or maybe the bone crack only dazes or weakens when it uses one charge. Or you can use all the charges for the full stun.
I think that change would make stealing more fun and viable as well as making main hand with no offhand something worthwhile.
Thanks, St Neon. We’re sorry about the issues and for the inconvenience caused.
Thank you very much. I was actually just afraid that it wasn’t a bug and the trial period was just locked out.
It looks like it is currently working. Hopefully everyone else here has the chance they need to get into the trial.
This is quite the letdown. I had my girlfriend download the client so we could play (which took the best part of two days) and now there’s no way for her to register for the trial. They may (or may not – hell, it’s not even officially acknowledged anywhere) fix it later, but the week-end is now, and her purchase decision depends on her having time to try it out. Needless to say, the light this casts on the perspective of a positive experience isn’t the most favorable.
I really hope that this is just some weird bug. Though, if it’s a bug, I also hope that they extend the trial a little. I want as many people trying this game as I can get. It’s a good game, but I can’t just have people play my copy to experience it, I need to them to play it for themselves.
And with the lack of a demo, it’s hard to find opportunities like this, especially when they’re all so far from each other and so short in time.
The Guild Wars 2 website says that there is a free trial for the 9/27/13 to 10/3/13

However, if you click the banner, you get sent to a link that says the trial period is over.

Is something broken?Seems to be bugged for the moment, as it was working earlier today. I’m sure they will have it up and running soon.
You’re probably right. Things like this happen from time to time.
It’s quite hard to get friends to try the game and be able to play with them if they can’t get a trial account.
Thanks.

Dailies are a fun way to level and help players have extra incentive to do certain tasks.
However, because dailies are shared, you can only do it on one character and have no control over when you have to do it.
This means that players who specifically want to use them on one character must switch to that character once dailies reset.
Additionally, some players play together and use dailies to level up with each other, using dailies as the meter for play or simply to help level up their characters faster.
That means when dailies reset, players are forced to stop playing until their friend/s arrives.
To avoid this problem, daily achievement progress should have the ability to be halted. This way, you can continue to do what you want on the character you currently playing, saving dailies for another character or for when you want to play with a friend. The dailies still reset once a day like normal, this idea is just to halt daily progress so you can continue what you’re doing as well as allow you to complete them on a different character later that day or complete them with a player.
