+ to what others said about the right mouse button. Once you get used to mouse turning you will wonder how you played without it.
Few more ideas: GW2 is pretty complex game to learn mouse turning on. While you’re learning the mouse, you also have to think about 1) weapon skills 2) healing 3) Utility and Elite skills 4) F1-F4.
So, some suggestions:
1. Try is playing a FPS. Anything straightforward (Team Fortress 2 – soldier class comes to mind). In terms of the mouse and wasd, FPS gaming is exactly like GW2 without the right mouse button needing to be held down. Also, you don’t have to worry about all other weapon, utility, F keys. Don’t worry about score, teammates, anything really. Just concentrate on hitting your targets.
2) Start with the mouse sensitivity way down until you get comfortable. Then slowly increase it to where it feels good when playing pvp. This is personal taste. I know people with it very low. Mine is jacked up about 4 times as sensitive as when I’m just in windows.
3) Try heading to the cursed shore to practice. Mobs aren’t terrible, but hard enough to force you to concentrate.
Good luck and don’t get discouraged with it while you learn. It’ll become second nature soon enough.
omg +1. so true.
only change I might add is:
Mesmer:
He who spams greatsword abilities because other weapons require too much skill.
Well reading everyone’s responses have made me feel better. It really is a great game overall.
Happy holidays everyone!
I thought you have a 30 percent chance on the unbreakable the tonics. That’s not very exclusive. The bell is sure, I’m not even thinking of that.
1) Thanks for the responses (other than capt obvious: >> “you don’t have to pay or play”.. thanks for the incredibly insightful response).
2) I’m am glad people are enjoying it. Seriously. If I’m in the minority so be it, no worries. This will be my only post on the topic.
3) It does seem like a grind. I tried making an unbreakable tonic. 14 tries and I have none. A friend of mine has already made 3 tonics in less than 14 tries – we were making them at the same time. So, now, if I really care, I’m back to farming for stuffing and glue.
I don’t apologize for the upcoming rant, just my two cents on the event.
I used to love GW1 holiday events. Get together in LA, dance, shoot off snowmen makers, and get presents. I’d sit on teamspeak with guildies, and talk to the hundreds of people in town. It was a community feeling event.
GW2 events are… well … reading, and more reading, and grinding, and more grinding… You get information on the web and through gw mail. You have to collect x mats and make x items. If you don’t read, you’re basically lost. This is odd because I remember watching a GW2 video before the game came out on DEs. The devs were saying traditional MMOs were all reading and doing quests. GW2 was different because you just watched the event happen. I feel like the holiday events miss that idea entirely.
The community feel is gone as well since everyone is basically just grinding in their own little world.
Wintersday has thrown in a new element to the mix. Add a whole ton of items to deal with in an already limited inventory space. Now we get reading, grinding, AND inventory management.
It’s a bit depressing. I used to look forward to the events so much, this is probably the last one I do.
Anyone else feeling any of this? or am I missing something?
> lol mantra of persistence was great!! But what’d you get the 50s slow from? Was that ? > Imagined Burden? If so i thought that was just a worse version of Etheral Burden…
Ahh yea, it was Imagined Burden. You’d put 15 or 16 in inspiration to get the mantra nice and high. I think illusion only needed 9 or 10 points. They finally nerfed the hell out of it, but man, to see a warrior walking slowly trying to get back to the fight and everyone else is just running around … of course, the second he’d get back, burden would be recharged and you could whack him with it again..
good times..
I miss so many skills..
Way back when before the mantra of persistence nerf: Mantra of Persistence + Crippling Anguish. Let a whammo with 8 attack skills on his bar chase you far away in RA, whack a 50 second slow on him, and run back to battle
Signet of midnight (good with plague touch). Stand next to your monk in RA and make 2 melee useless for the entire event. I had so many assassins rage quit doing this.
Diversion and Psychic instability.. (omg psychic instability)… is the anything better than watching a noob ele not use glyph sac and try to cast meteor storm? wait for it … wait for it … wait for it .. so close to finishing the spell… kd!
