Many will hate this build because it is literally summon 3 swordsman and then sort of afk pressing 2 when off cool down after an auto chain. For that I feel they are somewhat justified in their criticism.
Sadly that is how mesmer is designed. I suspect that Mirage will be in the same spot. Whether it uses clones or phantasms in the end.
If we were to use more of our kit the dps would decrease.
- Every newly summoned clone/phantasm is a dps loss
- every shatter is a dps loss
The problem is that 2-3 skills on our weapon bar are summons which means we’re stuck with 2 skills to use (autoattack and one dps skill).
Yeah that is my biggest concern as well. And I am probably going to miss Chronophantasma and the old Persistance of Memory when playing Mirage.
Bleeding is fine. It is the confusion and torment that is the issue.
As we all know, confusion and torment are great for pvp but horrible for pve. This will make the Mirage hard to balance for both, just like how the core mesmer condi specs are strong in pvp but poor in pve. So by changing some of the confusion and/or torment into burning the Mirage can get some more use in pve as a condi spec without making the pvp Mirage too strong.
And it matches the lore as well: Deserts are hot places with little to shade you from the sun, and mirrors can be used to burn stuff with sunlight – hence burning would make sense.

I noticed that you pick Power Block over Mental Anguish. Does the damage from Power Block trigger on break bars? Or did you just pick it because it is useful for dealing with adds?
Well I put a light spin on it as well

So if we are going down this tinfoil path. Have you considered that Chronos may go back in time to give it to Ventari? After all. He didn’t have it from the beginning, otherwise Revs would have had it right from the bat. So the most possible explaination would be that a chronomancer took pity on the Revs (perfectly understandable) and went back in time to help them.
There are already multiple threads about this yet you thought it was a good idea to make a new one?
Well Chrono is still the only class that can output a considerble amount of quickness. And most of the time Quickness > Alacrity (yay autoattack meta).
Overall I like the changes. The question is if 1 chrono will be able to give out enough quickness now or there will still be 2 needed.
Unlike other classes where one or two sets would work just fine. Being Versatile is basically the key for mesmer. All tough Commander would get you far, and is accepted in most scenarios. I still would have multiple sets for chrono to be optimized, depending on what and where you like to play the class:
Armor:
- Commander (leadership or durability runes)
- Assassin (scholar runes)
- Berserker (scholar or chrono runes)
- Cleric (monk rune)Weapons: (Concentration/x sigils)
- Commander
- Berserker
- MinstrelTrinkets:
- Commander
- Berserker
- MinstrelMaybe some additional condi set with Viper or Trailblazer but that is rather optional.
As much as I love the versatility, I must admit it is also a double edged sword. Our stuff is either stupidly expensive (Sigil of Concentration / Minstrel gear /Bountiful sharpening stones) or a pain in the kitten to farm (Leadership / Durability runes). And even the most basic Chrono build requires much effort (Sigil of Concentration + Leadership runes) unlike the usual Zerker+Scholar setup that most classes use and can fairly easy aquire.
It’s still wonderful to have multiple options rather than just being tunnel visioned on max damage. Which is probably why I love playing support’ish classes in games. If only it didn’t require so much more farming just for the basic stuff. I would love to have Arenanet even out the difference abit. Especially the huge bottleneck there is on Freshwater pearls that affects most Chrono builds. I may be looking into cheaper alternatives to sigil of concentration since it is so expensive, but not sure if it is viable.
Also I got a question: You mentioned a Berserker set with chronomancer runes. What would you use it for now that Signet of Inspiration got changed? I recently returned to the game thus still have the Chrono runes but I am working on replacing them with leadership runes. Should I keep them instead?
The pistol is pretty nice, too. Elegant lines, same decent colors, clock animation.
Not to mention that the scope looks like the end of one of those gem buttplugs.
If only Horologicus had a nice animation like that.
It is funny how every chronomancer PVE thread turns into a discussion about who has the biggest p…. ehmm…. I mean highest quickness/alacrity uptime. Be careful to not be too theoretical about it. Things may get more difficult once you start to take Mr. Vale Guardian out on a waltz.
I wanted to do some sPVP again so I took the Hybrid build out for a spin. I love it and felt like I kicked kitten in the 3 matches I played (not that many matches but still a nice first impression). I did, however, use Rabid amulet but intend to switch to sinister once I get better.
Assassin’s stats were prefered due to how the reflect mechanics works. Basically when you reflect something it uses the attacker’s base stats but your crit chance and ferocity. And since PVE mesmer build often had lots of reflect abilities it was an overall dps gain. I am not sure for HoT though as builds have changed alot and I don’t see that many mobs where you can reflect.

I have thought about it and it can be really useful for fights where breakbars are the issue and damage is fine, but on the other hand it seem a little bit overkill.
What I like about the hybrid build is the flexibility it offers. I have many roles at the vale guardian boss when doing raids with my guild and I honestly don’t mind that my dps will be subpar, because I know that I will free up the other guys to focus on their dps. The sceptor allows me to stay ranged and be one of the people who stays in the green circle. Likewise since the damage of the sceptor is more focused on number 3 skill rather than autoattack it doesn’t really matter if I spend much time doing other stuff than directly attacking. And the Illusions traitline is amazing in my opinion as it allows you to pump out more illusions and more shatters which means more alacrity and other good stuff. Even C. split got lower cooldown which makes it possible to have less than a minute between each timewarps.
The mesmer can certainly feel overwhelming, but once you get to fully understand the class you will love how flexible it is.
1. Amadeus already answered your quesiton regarding break bar. As for boon stripping. The 3rd skill of the sword auto attack line will remove a boon and you will cycle through it rather fast. Additionally there is a trait in Domination that makes your shatters strip boons.
2. The greatsword has a nice knockback and the focus has a great pull. Wells offer a lot of utility as well on top of the alacrity they give. And with the right traits you can share boons and do a bit healing as well.
3. It seems like there are many chronomancer builds that works. As long as you have the chronomancer traits you are already supplying your party with alacrity and being a huge help. The remaining two traitlines can be swapped out to match a playstyle you like. Domination + Dueling can be great for direct damage. Dueling + Illusions are great for condition damage (or hybrid). Inspiration can be slotted for more support.
4. I am not familiar with high level fractals, but the glass cannon meta seem to still be strong. Zerker gear is still great for direct damage and Sinister/Viper allows you to do much damage with condition or hybrid builds. Other statlines can be useful as well, but having a glasscannon set is a solid choice to begin with. If you find yourself dying too much you can swap in some defensive stats and I think that boon duration can be worth it for some support oriented builds (jsut remember that alacrity isn’t affected by it). The chronomancer’s main defense is avoiding damage so you can still be somewhat tanking with offensive stats.
Threads like this is one of the reason why I love my Chronomancer and HoT. The sheer amount of possibilities are amazing when you get to dive into the class and it provides a great opportunity to satisfy your inner theorycrafter.
I tried raiding for the first time last night and got to use my new Ascended Sceptor (first ascended weapon, yay) and I must say I loved the playstyle as I felt I had many important roles to do. I did go with dueling instead of inspiration as the extra condition damage seemed to be needed but I think I will try out inspiration next time as it probably wouldn’t be a significant drop in damage for the raid.
I started out with a pistol as well but ended up switching to the focus and I have started to learn how great it can be. The pull is great for the seekers and since the warden will be in melee range of the boss, there isn’t a delay on the shatter. The biggest issue with the warden compared to the duelist is when the boss got moved out of the warden’s aoe.
Since both inspiration and the focus is somewhat new for me I am still in doubt regarding some mechanics:
First of all, does the warden reflect/destroy projectiles all the time or only when using the attack? While it is irrelevant for the first boss it may come handy later.
And how does Illusionary Inspiration work? Does the phantasms pulse the regeneration once every 3rd second or once per attack? Also can the signet of inspiration proc be used to help with might stacking? Let’s say I and the people around me have 12 stacks of might and then I summon a phantasm, will the other guys get 24 stacks of might then? Can it also be used to extend the duration of other boons like quickness?
Anyone know how much of your damage you give up by using Inspiration over Dueling? While the bleed procs and fury on phantasms are great, I feel that the rest of the Dueling tree is rather lackluster, atleast for the first boss.
@Ross: Interesting. I had intended to try out something similar but great to see your take on it. Though I got a few questions. Why did you pick sword/torch over a staff? I haven’t really done WvW with my mesmer so I don’t know the torch well but I would have thought that the staff provides great synergy with condition builds. I also noticed that you didn’t pick up PU in your 2nd build where you changed to Chaos despite using both torch and mass invis. Is it no longer worth it to use PU compared to the other traits?
@Alpha: I like your suggestion with Chaos instead of Dueling. I had probably been overestimating the worth of BD and I have been uncertain about how much the bleeds on crit adds, but I certainly see the value that Chaos brings. Still, you meantion staff clones so I was wondering if using a staff instead of sword/torch made it worth using Dueling instead of Chaos.
What I like most about Chronomancer is how it blurs the line between shatter and phantasm builds.
You two. Get a room!
Nice to see one of my RL mates rocking with the best of the best. Fantastic duels you had and the length and intensity of those duels both proves the skills of the players and the fantastic game design.
Heya Rager
Lucky Shots is a small WvW focused guild (we do other activities too, but this is our main focus) and we need people to fill our ranks. Since we currently has a small size our WvW activities consists of small skirmishing teams, but we intend to expand so we can include more frontal attacks as well.
Personally I would love to have another elementalist in the guild so I have someone to discuss specs and tactics with. For some reason we intend to attract mainly warriors and mesmers.
Check out our recruitment page for more info: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Gunnar-s-Hold-WvW-focused-guild-is-recruiting-Lucky-Shots/first#post70448
Home World: Gunnar’s Hold
Guild Name: Lucky Shots [EpiX]
In-Game Contact: Mr Contact.6708 or Amadeus.5687
Focus: WvW
Quick Notes: WvW is our focus, but we organize guildruns for pretty much everything. Recruitment page Here
Lucky Shots [EpiX] is a WvW focused guild on Gunnar’s Hold. Our goal is to become an important and influential part of the server’s WvW Force. We will achieve that through structured teams and for that we need you. Our WvW activity will include everything from small skirmishes and guerrilla warfare to big frontal attacks. We got our own TeamSpeak server to increase our effectiveness.
While WvW is our main focus there is of course room for other activities, such as guild dungeon runs, and we will support them as well. We expect to keep Lucky Shots as a medium sized guild with room for all kinds of players who like GW2 and WvW. As long as you have a good attitude and want to be a part of the brotherhood. The medium size allows us to have a tight community while still having an active playerbase without demanding attendance.
We are still building the structure of the guild, so you have an opportunity to shape it!
What we can offer
• A friendly and laid back community
• WvW action
• helpfulness and teamwork
• TeamSpeak server
• PVE, sPVP, Events and much more
• Experienced members
What we expect
• Mature and friendly
• Willing to be a part of the community
• Attend to our activities (there isn’t a minimum attendance, but we expect you to show up to atleast some of them
• Representing during guild activities (We would prefer you to represent the guild as much as possible, so representing is only mandatory during guild activities)
More about the guild
The guild was founded by me and friend, and has a backbone of RL friends. However we are expanding outwards to fill our forces. The guildchat is kept in English so everyone can understand it. Over the last few days we have had a steady flow of members so there is no reason to worry about being isolated from an already tight group. We want all our members to be a part of the community. We have a solid influence income and got guildbank, guild workshop, guild emblem and soon a guild armorer. After that we intend to focus on the War upgrades.
