GWAMM removed, restored, removed.

Please end the torture. GWAMM title and achievements were removed from my account, then restored, and now removed again. Could you please fix this? This may be related to playing a beta character, as I didn’t receive the “you mistakenly got the title” email until I started playing a beta character today.

Btw, I wouldn’t object to a little compensation for being put through this twice now (so far…). Yes, I submitted a support request, and a bug, but if anyone else is going through this, they can see it on the forums as well.

Salvage for Invader and Karma items

This is why you never, ever buy armor or weapons with karma or badges. Buy it on the TP, or craft it, or get it from dungeons, or go naked.

Now we know. At the time, who knew there would be ascended items (and possibly beyond ascended). Or even that such items couldn’t be salvaged for their parts. I think it’s a non-intuitive mechanic whose intention was to prevent conversion of karma/badges to gold, and not to consume upgrade components. That’s just speculation however.

Upgrade extractors are the worst valued item in the shop by a really hilarious factor. They should be 25 charge for their price and they are 1.

They just are bad value for what you want to do with them. They are intended for infusions, not runes and sigils.

If you could get them at a gem price equal to 5g, guess what will happen?
Everybody will convert gold to gems in order to salvage 10g runes and sigil off their karma gear. This will inflate the gold/gem ratio and flood the market with runes and sigils.
Soon enough, you need to pay 7.5g to get the extractor becuase gems got more expensive and the runes and sigils only cost 7.5g.

Rinse and repeat.

Then make it a merchant item at a fixed price, which destroys the item (too powerful if you make the item no longer soulbound, and ppl would end up dropping the item in the MF or selling to merchant if it stays soulbound). Make it not apply to infusions if that is the intent of the existing extractor, so ppl still need to use the extractor for the infusion, and can then remove whatever else with this new type of kit, which will also destroy the item. I can’t believe it would apply that much downward pressure on runes/sigils/etc., and imho a little downward pressure wouldn’t hurt. The prices of some of these items are pushing us into pay-to-win territory.

I do agree that we need some cost effective solution to being able to use the expensive runes/sigils that we place in certain gears (karma) that can’t be broken down. I don’t even want to be able to pull the item out to sell; I just wanted to be able to pull it out to put into my Ascended pcs as I make them. This used to be easily done with Transmutation Crystals, and prevented the inflation mentioned above. I could keep the look and stats of the item I wanted to use while moving the rune/sigil from the other piece by combining them. This was the era in which I made these Karma gears for my 2 mains which utilize Strength and Traveler Runes respectively. So, post April feature patch, I was stuck with 7 of each stuck in gears with no way to either get the runes out or “Transmute” them onto new gears the way we used to. I’m not saying straight salvage/extraction is the answer, because the inflation argument is 100% valid. What I am saying is that we do need some viable solution to this often overlooked issue that there used to be a perfectly viable system in place for.

This exactly. I have an increasing amount of karma/invader armor with runes I would like to have been able to move directly to the new ascended armor (same applies to weapons, accessories, etc.).

Hi Guys,

I know there’s the upgrade extractor in the gem store, but the price on it is prohibitive for what I want to do. As I upgrade my chars to ascended armor/weapons, I’m left with exotics that have mods that are worth upwards of 10g each. This doesn’t cover the cost of an upgrade extractor, and I don’t care about the original item. Could we get an in-game or much cheaper gem store salvage kit that can remove upgrades from these types of armor, while destroying the armor (providing a disadvantage relative to the upgrade extractor)?

Thanks!

Watching the tanking going on right now is sad

Not sure why this is sad. Practically no server wants to fight for weeks against a vastly more numerous foe. Being backed up to the legendaries EVERY DAY might seem like fun looking down from BG but trust me it sucks. There is no challenge or competition in T2 any longer and it sucks for everyone in it including SoS.

So to sum up, the Dragonbrand position is that DB could have made Gold, but tanked so an even less able server has to spend the tournament facing Gold-level teams instead of DB. It’s disgraceful on so many levels, and the ability of people to rationalize such behavior as a somehow valid strategy is mind-boggling.

BTW: DB has lost two of its top WvW guilds so far due to this decision. And the enticement of trying to buy new guilds for DB has opened the door for scammers asking people for gold to go toward moving people to DB. If you’ve given gold to someone for this purpose, I’d recommend asking that it be returned, and reporting the scammer if they refuse.

lul wut? DB hasn’t lost any guilds, and actually just transferred over a large wvw guild, and another smaller one due to the decision to stay out of gold league..

90% of wvw players on the server are excited to take on other servers of similar skill and size in T3, because its fun to have good fights and close matchups and not get wiped…

I was there for the aftermath of season 2 (and the start, when so many guilds transferred over to fight in gold on DB, but friggin never saw them in the maps after week 2 because they couldn’t handle the massive blobs the T2 servers had around).. we lost 6-7 guilds after season 2 and our wvw community was destroyed. now we finally got it built back up and we don’t want it to happen again..

this isn’t about loot or winning, we just want close competition, and the thing we all play games for…FUN

Considering you followed up a post that mentioned one of them, AKD, the other is dawn.

Previously, the story was we lost 3 guilds, now it’s 6 or 7? Of the 3 guilds in the original tale, at least 2 of those did not leave due to the bad season. I can’t speak to the 3-4 additional ones, as this is the first I’ve seen of this number.

But losing guilds (whether true, or a pack of lies) is neither here nor there. You can’t build a quality server community on a foundation of throwing matches.

Do you even understand why servers like Dragonbrand are tanking? Sorry but no thank you to another WvW tournament like Season 2. #6 in Gold league because other servers managed to out-tanked us on their way to silver. Were it not for the ticket fiasco we wouldn’t even have a weapon skin. This server learned its lesson last season by not tanking hard enough.

This is the kind of mess you get when you have coverage wars, a slow-moving rating system, bandwagon servers, and rewards heavily dependent on performance within a league/matchup.

I’ve been on Dragonbrand since the beginning and was there every day last season. We came in last every week except one (when we came in 2nd). I understand why people want to tank, just like I understand why people wanted to fix matches in HA, or have “RedDead” day in Hero Battles, and various other forms of cheating which weren’t considered acceptable.

1) There is no way to prove that a ser er is tanking. So banning without evidence is not something Anet will do.
2) Even if you look at the result, they may say that they are taking a break. You can’t prove otherwise.
3) You can’t force people/guilds to WvW. It’s completely upto them.

As I mentioned, in the case of DB, it is very provable. Simply look at the chat logs from WvW. You’ll see guild leaders saying not to siege, not to cap, and describing the events of the “server meeting” where the decision to tank was made. I agree with (2), you can’t prove it based on score. I’m not talking about making people WvW, just the cases where there is hard evidence that a large proportion of the WvW participants are trying to lose intentionally.

Something needs to be done about servers “tanking” before the WvW tournaments. Some possibilities would be to:

1) Fix the rankings for the tournament the day the tournament is announced. This may require some other restriction on movement or participation (if you do move) after the announcement to prevent flocking to the top servers.

2) Make the worst reward in a higher tier better than the best reward in a lower tier. I don’t know that people play for rewards, but those who do would be motivated to do their best rather than fall to a lower tier intentionally.

Finally, in cases where a server is provably tanking on a large scale, such servers should be banned from the upcoming tournament. I have been a proud member of Dragonbrand since 8/25/2012, but I’m absolutely ashamed by the massive number of people and guild leaders on Dragonbrand choosing to lose between now and the tournament start. Proof of this can easily be found in the chat logs from WvW.

In Guild Wars I, “match fixing” was a bannable offense for HA and other PvP formats. I would like to see this form of match fixing, that has the goal of “beating up” weaker opponents during the tournament, punished similarly.

First try precursors are no less scientific. Simply add first try guy’s four rares into the op’s sample. So instead of 440 tries and no precursor now its 441 tries and one precursor. Now add in my own 20 tries and its 461 tries and 1 precursor. Calm down!

I hope this is sarcasm. That is definitely not scientific, and is totally invalid. Every thread with a “large” sample size has a bunch of follow-up posts by people who got a precursor within a few tries. You don’t get a bunch of follow-ups from people who hit one after an intermediate number, or people who have accurately tracked a large number. The result of calculating based on people volunteering results in this way results it numbers making it seem much more likely that you will get a precursor.

This is why, if you want to aggregate a bunch of statistics scientifically, the person contributing data has to pick a point at which they will start collecting data, and count the results after that starting point. Check the GW1 wiki for instructions on contributing to the distribution calculations for various RNG items.

Why do some people like vertical progression? IMHO, it’s because they are hard-core players who know they will get the best weapons/armor sooner that most, and will be able to grief the “casuals” who haven’t. Catering to this crowd is catering to the worst in the community.

As someone who has spent and embarrassing amount of money in the gem store, and for this event bought 61 keys and got pretty much crap, I can safely say that I won’t be putting any real money into the gem store for anything that doesn’t have odds posted. I kept opening them because I wanted to see what the Halloween items were before spoilers appeared. Turned out the spoiler was the drop rate. So Anet, if you’re listening, check out how many $$$ I’ve put in your pockets over the past 7-8 years, and into your gem store over the past 2 months, and then think to yourselves how much money you may have cost yourselves by being stingy with pixels. At the right balance (and quality of items), I would have bought more chests from the TP and more keys from the store.

BTW, I’d like to buy stuff with gems for other players (minis and clothing mainly). Is it too much to ask to make some things not account bound, but make it so they can’t be sold on the TP? Or make it so you can specify a delivery mailbox for the items so they are account-bound to the giftee?
