A few words come to my mind about the people who say GW2 doesn’t need an expansion. If youre gonna argue that the two living stories up to now combined gave even close to an expansion worth of content, you’re plain WRONG. there is no arguing about it. If they did no living story, they couldve just worked 1 and a half years, MAXIMUM 2 years and they couldve released it.
And also, no matter how kitten casual you are, most of the living story updates, maybe except episode 5, can not give you more time to play than lets say 6 hours. No freaking way! Takes 1 hour to complete the story part, and maybe 2-3 hours to get achievements, and the rest i dont even know what you do. Thats 3 hours per week.
What could have they added in it? Maybe, hmm, the personal story of killing another elder dragon (because, you know, its been more than 2 years and we only killed 1 dragon). Because at this rate the elder dragons will be dead by 2024, and thats without any cantha/elona content. Also, they couldve added 5-6 dungeons, a new class, a new race etc. And don’t tell me its not possible.
And you know why you need an expansion? Because thats the only way people will keep playing, and they will be invested enough in order to buy gems. The fewer active players= the fewer gems bought.
I am very sure that if they dont AT LEAST announce an expansion at end of LS season 2 this game will die out in 1 year. Because you can only live so long from players who are buying just now the game.
Oh, and even if the content added in the previous LS wouldve been permanent, it wouldn’t even compare to an expansion. It has close to no new maps, and it has very trivial content, no endgame (hard explorable dungeons/fractals level of difficulty). I would love to see dungeons as hard as arah which reward adequately.
How about not ignoring season one. Thanks.
First half of season 1 was completely crap even for living story standard. It got better, although again what can we remember from most of it? Open world: farm gauntlet, farm invasion etc. Looking at the whole picture, the story progressed too slowly. And even then, as I said, living story isnt even close to enough to giving enough meaningful content how an expansion does, no matter if you look at Factions/Nightfall or expansions of that other game for example.

Nothing? Also what do you guys think?
I know a lot of players at the moment are stockpiling champion bags in order to open them when the patch rolls up on Tuesday, but I would actually like to have an official answer from Anet if the champion bags collected before the patch will drop the ascended mats, or only bags collected from Tuesday on.
(I am aware that there was a situation with the Queen Gauntlet bags, I am not sure what it was exactly).
TY in advance.
If there will not be any Cantha expansion, I will be very mad. First of all, there is the obvious implication there won’t be also a Elona expansion. I started playing GW1 with Factions, and tbh Prophecies was for me the most boring of them, with Elona being the most awesome continent ever created imo (I still get chills when I go in Vabbi:D).
But, i do not think they won’t do it. They made the whole Winds of Change, there is the 99% possibility of a 6th dragon, who can most likely be only in Cantha! And I bet we will have to defeat all the dragons, so… Furthermore, the whole story of Palawa Joko taking over, there is no way we won’t have to solve that! It’s just like playing a game, and being told: ‘Hey, there is this big bad villain who is enslaving people!’ ‘Ow, ok i’ll be on my..’ ‘Nonono, you can’t do anything about it, I was just saying’
And we need those continents, because humans just lost their charm. With the many kingdoms in Tyria, and the Canthans and Elonians, humans felt way more deep compared to the generalised humans from MMOs like WoW.
Pls Anet, do not dissapoint us! Bring Factions and Nightfall back in GW2!!
My b-e-a-utifulll >>>> Norn Guardian !
OMGOMGOMG your guardian looks amazing!! what armor pieces are those? hope its not any cultural norn
It was an interesting post and I am looking forward to all the things that were mentioned, but is anyone else concerned over the following comment?:
‘…we don’t want to force our players on endless gear treadmills for new tiers of gear we add every 6 months. You won’t see another tier between ascended and legendary in 2013 for example.’
That to me reads ‘We will not add new tiers in 2013, but may add more from 2014 onwards.’. I hope I have read this wrong, as I am really not keen on power creep.
Everything else that was mentioned sounds good though and I am looking forward to it.
I think they may add this because after 1 year most ppl will have max gear, maybe at least 2 lvl 80 alts, and probably a lot of cosmetic items. Unless they play pvp, they may get bored of pve, so new tiers every maybe 1 year isnt so bad. Me, personally, wouldn’t mind that or just going with the GW1 system of just adding more and more cosmetic weapons armor. The problem is that if you don’t like the new, cosmetic only items, you have no motivation to go for the new items, so you just get bored easily of new content and quit.
No reward for me now
Why would it? People still have to put in the same amount of time to get the tokens which could then be sold. Precursors would as well…. The time it takes to get an AC weapon to just salvage a few ectos is not profitable.
Am I the only who thinks that Anet have just gone crazy with the number of items which are soulbound/account bound? This is why the economy of the game is just so boring. The only thing that people trade are precursors, a few weapons and mats for crafting more soulbound/account bound items.
I just think everything would become much more interesting if dungeon tokens/MINIPETS/armor would be able to be sold. It would also get rid of RNG, and you could be able to buy the items you want without grinding for them, but just buying them off TP with the money you make.
