Hi Dev’s

Just a quickie. Just created a new sylvari and the Sylvari theme didn’t play during the cutscene…the normal music (Heritage of Humanity) played.

Just think this needs a fix.

Thank you for this game

Apart from this being a shameless bumping of a thread.

The marionette battle was perfect. Great combat, challenging content but accessible enough that a new player could do it. It also gave enough loot to keep the farmers happy. Can we have more content like that please.

Thank you for this game

Yeah my eel looks unique she just needs a decent staff skin currently using the toy staff. (Want the ascended staff skin but I detest crafting)

The forums are a dark place full of whining and moaning that you, the developers, have to wade through everyday. So I thought it would be nice to drop a thank you note.

Thank you for creating an amazing game. It is a rich, full of content game. You have created a vast variety of events ranging from herding some baby moas back into a pen and watching an asura teach them to dance to a full out war to invade the corrupted land of Zhaitan.

I enjoy every aspect of the game and while there could be some improvements (making world bosses more damaging, Heroes Ascent and proper Guild vs Guild not Zerg vs Zerg,) Anyone new to the game should enjoy the experience.

Regarding the dead zones like Southsun and the mid level zones there is nothing that can be done. We as a player base have become greedy only caring about the efficiency of doing something not the fun. Changing the dungeon rewards was meant to be a step towards making people enjoy the full the range of dungeons but instead has promoted elitism and now players only care about which dungeon paths can be done in a speed clear rather than banding together and enjoying the difficulty.

We have let you down as a player base rather than you letting us down as developers. You have given us a fun variety of content but people only seem to care about the content that gives most reward.

As a GW1 player from just before Factions was released to the present day it appears that most of this stems from mainstream MMO players rather than GW1 vets. Guild Wars dungeons were designed around the fact that if you got a nice skin it was a lucky drop rather than something you believed you deserved. You did a dungeon for something fun to do with your guild. Same thing with hard mode missions and vanquishes. We are okay with doing something fun and challenging.

I am unsure what direction the developers are taking with the living world. If it comes to a head much like the War in Kryta where following the end of it you could re do some of the boss bounties (which in the LW’s case would be the mini dungeons) that would be great. Also an optional Hard Mode personal story would be another good idea as that would be an incentive to take along some friends.

So thank you ArenaNet. Thank you for an amazing game and apologies for letting you down as a player base.

oh my god that’s depressing
it’s one thing to not have gvg like in gw1 here, but it’s really sad to see the original meaning turned into “25v25 mass chaos”

Have to agree. As someone who adored GW1 GvG, the guild wars 2 version is a blobby unstructured mess. Not the tense highly structured form of it’s predecessor. Unfortunately Guild Wars 2 has attracted the mass MMO market that has no idea of proper clinical and clean PvP which Guild Wars is.

Oh also i forgot to mention…Don’t ever give in to these people who whine about oh this is too hard and that is too hard.

Guild Wars 2 is a breath of fresh air in the genre because it is so difficult. It’s challenging but it’s fun. Though as i said above you need to sort out the scaling to make sure events can wipe a 50 man zerg attempting to try and defeat it.

Now i believe i’m in the minority here but i will carry on.

Thank you Arena Net you have given us an amazing game, it is packed to the brim with content and i can’t see where these people are coming from when they moan “There is no content to do at 80” blah blah blah.

It is sad to see that the middle level zones are dead. I’ve just tried to rally support in Malchor’s Leap to do the Pact Troops, Move Out! meta event. Unfortunately i was told to not bother even asking because all people do nowadays is grind out the low level world bosses for the easy rares and temples for much the same reason.

I love events for the story and people don’t appreciate that any more all they want is RARE ITEM NAOW. (i’m assuming these are mainstream MMO players rather than us GW1 veterans who are used to rewards and gear as purely cosmetic and if you get a nice skin that’s your reward)

I am sure you have numerous things swirling around on how to increase population across the zones. An idea i came up with is to put the equivalent to a guaranteed rare chest like from the temple events to the end of meta event chains and do something like Zaishen quests from GW1. but instead of having a single quest for every player on the game have a selection of 5 meta event chains to be randomly given to players. So i might get the Southern Invasion of Orr as a quest and a guildie might get Assault on Svanir’s Dome. An adequate reward for these quests could be a laurel and a random gem store item. In terms of Meta event completion chests a random gem store item and a guaranteed rare.

Though if you were to implement things like these we would need event scaling sorted out properly. Bosses need to be more difficult. At the moment 50 people are zerging down these giant terrifying world bosses in just over a minute.

So once again thank you for an amazing game and i’m sure you have some plans in place to solve this issue but i hope you read my suggestion

Maybe the answer then is for arena net to increase the scaling of events…Give enemies more HP and give them new AoE’s capable of cutting down swathes of players unless they play smart and dodge and block rather than just being vulnerable to zerging.

I apologise to those who have replied to this thread. I thought the answer lay in dowscaling but i believe it is a combination of the two. Equipment needs to downscaled to single stat gear when in low level areas and events need to be upscaled to accomodate the 50+ that farm these events.

A prime example is the Shadow Behemoth. In beta i fought this boss.

I somehow doubt that the encounters haven’t been tweaked since beta.

The point of these bosses is to challenge low level players. To make them learn mechanics like dodging and blocking in a timely manner and the like.

Not really imo. The legendary karka queen or the claw of jormag are not different, you can do almost everything by just auto attacking. There are other occasions where people may learn how to play. The only slightly more challenging encounters are temple events.

The scaling is fine. You’re not supposed to be as weak as when you just started the game. There always is a slight power progression, and it’s necessary.

I’m amazed you completely missed the point of this post…The bosses were designed to be fought by the lower levels who has, as a poster said above, single stat blues at best not triple stat exotics or ascendeds. The point is that a downscaled players is not equivalent to players at the appropriate level to the content. And the other point is that downscaling does not match the strengths of players… I am using low level bosses as the example but you can cover the entire game with the problem.

The issue with downscaling is that at level 15 you’ve got single-stat gear while at 80 you’ve got 3-stat gear. Meaning that a downscaled 80 will have a piece of gear with (arbitrary numbers) 10 power, 10 precision, 1%crit dmg. But a true level 15 will have 10 power.

Also, a 15 will have a 20 sec cooldown on their spammy high damage skill but a downleveled 80 will have a trait lowering the CD to an even more spammable 16secs.

Some things you just can’t downscale. Unless, you want a downscaled 80 -> 15 to suddenly lose all traits that cannot be acquired by level 15.

That is what City of Heroes did with their downscaling. Let’s say you are doing a level 30 instance and your actual level is 45. You lost all of your powers that you had unlocked from level 35 to your actual level. Also per City of Heroes the trait system was attached directly to skills meaning any enchancements attached to skills that were to be downscaled were lost.

I hope we get a dev response on this or to at least know they are looking into it. As the poster above me has said these events are really enjoyable if played how they are meant to be done rather than farmed for shiny loot.

One of the key concepts to Guild Wars 2 is that your power is always equal to the content you are playing. Going to a level 1-15 zone means that your abilities are matched to the zone.

However this is false.

Downscaling is not working as intended (i would hope).

People come along and steam roll the meta events in lower level zones. A prime example is the Shadow Behemoth. In beta i fought this boss. It took about 35 – 40 of us an hour to kill. Why did it take so long you ask. That was because we were appropriate to the boss. It wiped us repeatedly. It would cut over half of us down. Yet it was enjoyable. It felt like a challenge. Now let’s skip to the live game where everyone has level 80 characters. Yes people are downleveled to 16 when doing this event but that is not enough. Behemoth nowadays lasts no longer than 2 minutes at best and you barely see any damage done to you. It is a case of press 1 and win. (the extreme of this is the fire elemental in Thaumanova. 25 seconds one round took.)

Primarily this is not fair. The point of these bosses is to challenge low level players. To make them learn mechanics like dodging and blocking in a timely manner and the like. With things the way they are there is little to no hope that the players that the content is designed for can benefit from.

And before i get responses while the game wants us to play this way. Cut the crap, you know it’s not you just face roll the bosses for easy rewards.

I feel the need to be frank because i am annoyed. Yes i do have 80’s. No i do not farm these events. I do the events that are appropriate to me. Tequatl, Claw of Jormag, The god temples in Orr. Not robbing the fun experience from low levels.
