Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

For one character I’m sure it’ll be fine. But it depends on how much content there is in HoT – we have four new zones and no way of knowing how much landmass we’ll actually have to play with. The cynic in me thinks this requirement is to compensate for what isn’t going to be a lot of content by time-gating access to elite specs with this many HPs.

For your first character you’ll also unlock other masteries like gliding and mushrooms etc etc, which would make reaching those hero points on alts significantly less time consuming. Even just unlocking level one gliding made moving around the BWE areas really easy, having to hit up a dozen or two hero points is nothing, unless they somehow gate those hero points by typing them to meta events.

People with multiple characters who are wanting to test out the elite specs on or near day 1. Having to do the same hero challenges over and over again to unlock the specs would get tiring, even for the player who enjoys map exploration.

This is partly Anet’s fault for not revealing how much would be required for unlocking the elites, but if people just want to mess around with elite specs on day one, why don’t they just go into PvP? Acquiring your elite spec is supposed to be similar to leveling a profession in the first place, and you were always able to just hop into HotM to experiment at any level.

I’m a bit disappointed that I’ll have to wait a while longer to get my hands on my elites, but if people think this is going to be an even remotely restrictive grind they’re really overreacting.

Legendary gear is not "Legendary"

As an RP nerd I’ve had zero desire to get a legendary for pretty much the reasons OP states. Most of them are joke weapons and even the ones that are not are so distinctive that they’d look out of place on most of the professions that can use them. Only a handful of legendaries are even remotely impressive.

That said, I’ve seen enough big gay norns in in hot pink spats running around with the Dreamer to know there’s demand of ironically stupid weapons, so I just stick to my cultural t3 and accept it. I can get the best looking greatsword in the game for my Sylvari for 60k karma, who needs Twilight?

Here’s to hoping that the new legendaries continue being as diverse as the last, but it sure would be nice if they switched it up and made the new mace an actual serious weapon and then make the new legendary sword a floppy pool noodle, just so all audiences have some options.

Why would you nerf Dragon Hunter?

People also need to stop asking for a 25% speed trait or utility, it shouldn’t be needed at all, and we should instead ask for improved ways of approaching or slowing our enemies, not ask for a boring passive speed boost.

Being able to move out of travelers runes would add more to Guardian builds than any change they could conceivably make right now, frankly.

How do you deal with the slow runspeed?

After finally getting bored of having to always run a staff or shouts for roaming content, I forked over the money for travelers runes.

Still holding out hope that they add a 25% movement speed buff to the longbow cooldown trait or something, like Necro’s dagger.

The problem with Spirits

You didn’t really talk about what these new spirits would actually do, but I really like the idea of spirits becoming a Rangers “stances”, and I think making the spirits untargetable like a Guardian’s spirit weapons is the best way to go about fixes their frailty.

I just don’t believe Anet will make any substantial changes any time soon. But no amount of tweaking the numbers will save a fundamentally flawed mechanic.
