Hi I’m new to GW2 and I’m looking forward to competitive PVP.

hot joins
gets zerged
learns nothing

OK I’ve been playing for awhile and I think I’m ready for tournaments

joins free tourney
has no idea what is going on, has never played 5v5, is basically useless
gets crushed by premades

Looks like I need a dedicated team to play this game competitively

tries to find a team
only like 4 people in mists and 2 are AFK

Welp, that wasn’t fun sorry guys

logs ofkittenuninstalls

Sadly, this is pretty much my exact story over the last month or so, and I stuck it out way longer than any of my friends that bought the game with me.

I couldn’t agree more with what Pray and Jacobin have stated in their posts. Devs… please listen…

What's is up with tPvP ranks????

Arenanet when it comes to actually balancing the game, adding meaningful runesets, working sigils, and a game without a completely stale meta … insert the “I have no idea what I’m doing” meme.

But when it comes to making money, they even managed to incorporate that into the ONLY way to get any form of “ranking” currently available. This game will never reach esports at this rate.

I wish i could disagree with you, but they have made their priorities pretty clear. Things that get money from me to them > everything else (including fixes for bugs that have been known for quite a while). “Free-to-play” Guild Wars 2 feels a bit different than “Free-to-Play” Guild Wars 1.

Guild vs random people

It wouldn’t have to be GvG.

For example: In Leage of Legends, if you are in a premade consisting of 4 or more people, you’d only get grouped up against people with the approximate same number of premades.

The system wouldn’t be that hard to implement. A Net would just have to make another tournament queue for people who are in 4-5 man premades. That way, they would only meet players which have the same tactical advantage.

It wouldn’t be that hard to implement, but it could have a drastic effect on queue times.

Another reason they won’t do it is because they just gave us paid tournaments to play against other pre-made teams. Why would they give us a free way to do it when they could squeeze a buck out of us every time?

Based on the fact that they have still not fixed bugs that were reported in the first BWEs (no excuse…), and are focusing seemingly only on new features that will bring in money with the gem store…. I don’t get a good feeling about where PvP is going in this game. Maybe I will be more optimistic if they ever release something new that doesn’t require additional real money? I just can’t see that happening though, at least in the relatively near future.

Please don’t even bother making a GvG if there is a real money entry fee IMO.

Well that answers the question about whether they are willing to split pve and pvp(Save Yourselves), unless they have done this before and I just didnt know.

Spoon Foy's Big List of Fixes

9 – thieves currently have no idea, other than internal timing, when their Steal is off of CD.

what i propose as a fix = keep F1 as steal, and make F2 use the stolen skill. this way you could replace skills if you didnt want them, or at the very least, keep track of your CD on Steal and know when it was ready without having to guess or blow your stolen ability.

I think it is good enough that steal starts its CD before you use the gained ability, it definitely doesn’t need any more help…

In general I agree with you.
However, a lot of the issues people complain about are not 2 months old. Some of them have been reported since the first beta weekend…back in APRIL!
The lack of communication is also really hard to excuse. It doesn’t take hours to just sit down and type out a quick “we’re aware of this, this and this, and will likely do that, that and that”, even if it is subject to change.
The way they handled bugfixes and balancing so far is…atrocious. I’m sorry. I can shrug off most things, but when a class has a TON of bugs, traits that don’t work, bugged abilities, etc., to NERF that class (or buff it, however the case may be) before fixing those bugs is…how shall I put it gently…not smart? Fix first, balance later. How can you balance something that never even worked in the first place? All it means is after fixes you’ll have to do a whole new iteration of rebalancing when stuff that didn’t work kicks in and starts working and makes a difference.
Off the top of my head, there’s two classes where just fixing traits will make them considerably more powerful than they are now. Just purely making traits work, not bug or cancel each-other like they do now.
Bottom line, as much as I would like to stay positive, I find myself logging in less and less. In fact, this past week, I must have played 2 hrs total. The game just no longer appeals. And I’m not alone, because the last time I’ve been put in overflow was weeks ago – so total population of my server is definitely dropping.
Perhaps in a while after they fix stuff up, people will come back. But right now ANet is dropping the ball in a major way. Case in point – this Halloween stuff. Not that many people care, to be honest. Skins from chests you have to buy keys for with real money? Vanity items? Who cares about those when most classes are suffering from a myriad of bugs negatively impacting the gameplay? Fix those, then worry about vanity stuff.

Their priorities so far have me really worried about the future of this game. Why worry about fixing bugs and making the game work as intended when they could just keep pumping out more things that we can pay for with real money?

A very interesting point about ESports that ANet should keep in mind

You guys are getting your hopes up, I wouldn’t expect to see anything resembling a ladder until at least 8 months to a year from now. Next week, they will have been about 2 months late in releasing paid tournaments, a feature that was in the beta! After that they have said they are working on custom servers, which will probably take 3-6 months at the pace they have set.

Just think about how long these two features are taking, then realize that these are the things that will actually earn more money from the players! How long do you think it will take for them to implement a ladder, something from which they stand to gain no additional money?

I am really disappointed with the way anet has treated PvP. Free tournaments are a joke (woo-hoo I beat 3 pugs, I win teh PVP!!), they are fixing bugs at a snails pace (obviously prioritizing new features that will bring in more money over fixing the kitten game), no central place to meet other PVPers and form groups, and the only upcoming features that could remedy the situation cost additional real money. How can this be the same Anet that did GW1?

Right now I feel like they strung us along with the promise of an e-sport, only to release a half finished game and ask us to be patient while they finish the rest of the features that we will be able to pay for shortly.

Heart of the mists must have a District system

It doesn’t seem like there are enough people for it to work with the mists split by server. I’m already getting really tired of solo queuing for tournaments and I can’t ever form any groups in my server. I miss HA district 1

Questions about rally

in PvP

Posted by: Stu.2841

Stu.2841

Is there a max range on rally? I have been in 1v1 fights with nobody else in sight where I downed the enemy, only to have them get rallied by a kill from across the map. This seems really strange to me, I would think that one would need to be actively involved in the fight that caused the rally to benefit from it. Am I misunderstanding something?

Also, does anyone else think that rally might be too strong for pvp as it is now? If in a skirmish both teams have a couple guys down, whoever gets that first kill basically wins the fight. Not only do they kill an enemy, but they effectively negate all the work that the opposing team has done up to that point by reviving everyone. I feel like rally in pvp should be on a 1 for 1 basis: you kill 1 enemy, you rally 1 teammate.

Merge Heart of the Mists Servers

in PvP

Posted by: Stu.2841

Stu.2841

Please give us something like a merged Mists. It doesn’t make any sense to split the PvP community into small separate groups like this…

@BakBakaa How am i supposed to find a PvP guild when I can barely form a group? My server seems to have about 70 people sitting in the mists whenever I check (usually during prime time…), most of which seem to be afk.

Why did they split up the Mists by server?

Haku, what is the current alternative? Sitting in my Mists spamming lfg to even less people?

Why did they split up the Mists by server?

in PvP

Posted by: Stu.2841

Stu.2841

It’s been stated before. The reason the mists are split up is because everyone will be sent to different overflow servers anyway if all the mists are combined into one.

Which is basically what happened in GW1. If district 1 was full, you could wait in one of the other districts until a spot opened up, but once you got into district 1 you knew that was where everyone else was as well. With the Mists fragmented as it is now, forming groups and meeting fellow pvpers is tough… I feel like GW2 won’t ever have the pvp community that GW1 had if it stays like this.

Why did they split up the Mists by server?

in PvP

Posted by: Stu.2841

Stu.2841

Right now, In what I consider to be prime video game time here in the US, I currently have about 50-60 people sitting in my heart of the mists, none of which are talking/responding to me trying to form a group. Why did Anet split up the sPvP community by server?

In GW1 it was so nice to have a central place that everyone could meet to form groups. If you wanted to play, you went to HA district 1 just like every other person. It was always busy, groups were always being formed, people were always having conversations. Comparatively, the Heart of the mists seems dead. Why are we limited to meeting people/forming groups only within one server?

I understand that the sPvP browser and tournaments both span servers, but that doesn’t help with meeting people and forming groups when my mists has about 50 people in it, most of which seem AFK.

Are there any plans to address this, or will the PvP community always be split by server?

All I got from this blog post is them asking us to please wait patiently while they finish the features that should have been included in the game they already sold us. And it took them several weeks just to tell us this… how long will it take to actually get them implemented?

The way we see it, Guild Wars 2 sPvP may be shipped, but it’s far from finished.

indeed =(

Active tPvP Servers?

in PvP

Posted by: Stu.2841

Stu.2841

I really hope they implement something like the GW1 district system for heart of the mists. It was so nice to have HA district 1 where everyone could always go to find a group and talk. Granted it was full sometimes, but when it was the next disctrict usually had people and you could wait until you could get into district 1.

I dont understand why they split up the PVP community like this.

The red/blue thing

in PvP

Stu.2841

What was wrong with the GW1 system where you wore whatever you wanted and had a custom cape to show which team you were on?

It seems kind of silly for the only rewards in pvp to be aesthetic, and yet take away any customization by restricting them to only red and blue. Am I missing something?

Guild Wars 2 PvP lacks community

Stu.2841

I was really sad when I realized that they segregated the mists by server. I loved that in GW1 you had a place to go to mingle/form pugs with everyone else in the entire game (on your continent anyways) that was playing HoH. I feel limited in the fact that I can only form groups with the people on my server, which doesn’t have nearly as many people available to choose from.

So..let's all go back to Guild Wars

I really do miss Jade Quarry and just having a billion different builds to play/tweak/mess around with, or Fort Aspenwood. Such fun.

The lack of build variety and conquest overload, and only 2/4 maps that I actually like, and the 8v8 clumped into said tiny maps, just drives me nuts lol. =p

I think the build variety is what i miss most, they really simplified the skill bar in GW2.

In GW you had 8 skill slots to fill to your heart’s desire with two professions to mix skills from. There were so many possible combinations from mixing your class with another profession and being able to fill every skill slot individually.

in GW2 you get to choose 1 of 3 healing, 1 of 3 elite, ~2 of 6 (ish?) weapons, and fill 3 utility slots from about 20 skills. Granted the trait rewards that you can choose from do add a lot, but I still feel like GW had more variety in the builds you could create.

Maybe I just haven’t played long enough or gotten creative enough.

Could there be more game modes?

Stu.2841

I agree. I think leman sums it up pretty nicely here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Lost-potential/first#post284916

his TL;DR because his posts are a bit long:

Conquest mode is the main reason for the imbalances in PvP gameplay. The assumptions that led to its creation were alright, but it just won’t work in the long-run. Replacing it with something like GvG from original Guild Wars with more entertaining objectives tailored with new mechanics and capabilities in mind could lead to the PvP we all want so much.
