Levels in the beginning areas...boost experience?

As I’ve said a couple times now, hearts are not all im doing. I’ve Participated in a broad range of activities, everything available really. I gather everything I come across, I use all available resources any time I go near a crafting station, I participate in events, I explore, I do personal story missions, I’ve done limited wvw due to queues and being relatively useless with 2 skills slots, lack of traits, and lowbie gear.

This is where I fail to believe you.

I’m doing less than you, and EVERY time I’m overleveled.

I skip wvw/crafting and even personal story and I can be overleveled. Just gathering and killing mobs as I 0-100% the zone and do DE’s.

The only advice I can give you, if you plan on 100%’ing the zones, just go finish another 1-15 area.

Then you spend ALOT of time gathering and grinding mobs. Considering the tiny amount of xp from kills/gathering (though it does add up over time) even in the 1-15 zones when you need the least amount of experience to level then that simply won’t do it. As the video above outlined, heart quests give only a fraction of the xp needed to hit 15. Sure, if you spend 3 days on the same map running around grinding mobs and gatherables you will hit the same DEs over and over and eventually get to where you want to be.

I do not, however, believe your claim that you were able to reach the correct level without doing any personal story considering the massive amount of xp that every mission gives you. These account for a huge portion of the experience in any given level range.

People misunderstand, I do not wish for this to be the standard MMO fare of going from quest to quest, not by a long shot. There’s a reason I haven’t stuck with an MMO for any amount of time since SWG, because the traditional formula is just terrible. I do not however think it should operate in such a manor that when a map is completed that I either have to wander around a finished map looking for DEs that I’ve already done before, or to go to another area intended for the same level range just to advance to the next area. Visiting/completing concurrent areas should be entirely optional, not a requirement to advance.

Not to mention telling people to WvW for leveling purposes is simply a bad suggestion. WvW xp only comes if your server happens to be doing good and even then is mediocre at best, unless you are in a massive zergfest systematically capping every point on the map. Also, PvP isn’t for everyone. While I enjoy it, a large number of players abstain from it, and they should be catered to just as much as those who partake.

Each race has a city, and outside those cities is a low level zone.

You can easily access the other cities via Lion’s Arch (which can be accessed for free via Hearts of Mist in your character window). I advise getting 100% on all the cities and then if you still want more xp to exit a city and work through that 1-15 zone (again, doing hearts, dynamic events, crafting and map completion).

I’ve tried the city mapping route and found it terrible. The cities are giant mazes that are frustrating to navigate even when not trying to find POIs, WPs, and vistas. That will be something saved for when I’m going for 100% map completion

I can see why they wouldn’t want that, but it seems to me the solution would be to remove buffs on pet swap rather than nerf swapping.

Why is this there? Why must I wait however many seconds to swap my pet out of combat? It should be like weapon swap…

Now, something someone said did catch my eye, perhaps its a typo that the overlay says 1-17? Besides grinding mobs (which would be unbearable considering the xp they drop) and events it iskittennear impossible to hit that.

Not saying the route should be linear, but the map should atleast allow me to get to the proper level to continue on to one of the numerous zones that come after the beginning. And I have been doing more than going heart to heart, as I said, I’ve mapped the zone, done some WvW, done every event thats popped near me. Done as much crafting as I could with leatherworking, but since the mats are all drops, I’ve been rather limited without farming mobs.

The starting areas do not provide enough to do to get you to the “cap” for that area. For example, on my Human ranger, I have completely mapped Queensdale, done every event I’ve encountered, and done every story mission up to my level, and done a bit of WvW (not much) and I am only level 14 when the area is supposed to get you to 17. The heart hubs only go up to 15, so tell me, how are we supposed to get those extra 2 levels? Run around waiting for events to pop, or grinding crafting/killing mobs?

It should not be a requirement to work on other races starting areas in order to hit the level requirement necessary to move on. I’ve also encountered similar issues with Charr and Sylvari characters.

So I propose the XP needs to be boosted slightly in starter areas to account for the level discrepancy.

Some of the other MIA items that I’ve found:

Walnuts, soft wood type trees
Thyme, herb seedlings
Black Peppercorns, herb seedlings
Chocolate, booty bags from humanoid mobs in 25+ zones
Oranges, booty bags from humanoids in roughly 35 ish areas

You can’t find soft wood? Try any level 15-40 area..they are everywhere. I have over 100 logs of soft wood in my bank..

yes, however this is not viable in combat, everytime you switch off a kit and back autoattack settings are erased. That’s my whole point. My build switch between 2-3 kits every encounter

In weaoon skills autoattack is default for skill one, please make this so for engineer kits, atleast flame thrower and elixer..this is extrenely irritating when switching between kits. Or even better..allow us to set autoattack on every kit and save that setting. Ie, i set autoattack to a random bomb skill so i switch to kit and it auto drops that bomb

Hmm I really don’t know then, that fixed my issues.

Just a tip, stop running repair, it doesn’t do anything in this situation. It helped alleviate my frustrations when I was crashing constantly, atleast then I could get back in game in under 30 seconds instead of 15 minutes.

For those of you who had no errors while running memtest, if your running 64bit did you use Memtest86+? And did you use the one that runs along side the OS or did you create a bootdisk and do it that way? The former is notoriously inaccurate.

BSOD During Installation

I could be totally wrong here but have you tried memtest? In my research trying to solve my problem I saw that most BSODs are RAM related, especially when installing large programs.

Memtest is pretty easy to run, download the flash drive version (will need to format the drive), restart your pc, open the boot menu or bios (different for most pcs) and boot from the drive. The rest is automatic.

I too had a bad stick and had no idea, had no other indications from any other program. Removing this stick fixed the issue

Frequent crashing from "corrupted files"

Been having the exact same issue, ran memtest, found a slew of errors. Removed bad stick and everything is gravy. No crashes since.

Sure, I agree that such failings shouldn’t be affecting the game that much when no other game/program has had a single problem…but give that it does affect this game in this way, your best bet is to suck it up, run memtest, RMA your bad stick or buy a new one. RAM is cheap, and your system will be better for it. Personally, I’m using this as an excuse to buy 8 more gigs of RAM until my RMA’d stick comes back.

I just hope Anet acknowledges this specific issue, with the corrupt file error. Before these forums were up I was afraid I was the only one, or one of few getting this error. On other fan sites I was seeing mainly things about crashes with memory problems..just glad to see I’m not alone on this.

Try this and let me know if it works! It fixed my issue when I had the same type of crashes!

Quoted from an Anet employee:

“As a possible workaround/troubleshooting step I would like for you to try the following:
1. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
2. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
3. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
4. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.
Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
5. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 4 again.
6. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.”

Trying this, will update with results.

I have a thread where I have the exact issues, I have a GT 430.

In my case I stopped repairing and the game behaves the same, it will still launch but continues to crash as it did before. Try not running the repair. It helped ease SOME of the frustration from these crashes because I didn’t have to wait 15 minutes after each one.

Now I could be wrong, but if this is the case I don’t think anything is actually being corrupted..

Incessant Crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Stuka.7165

No I don’t get any black screen, game just exits and the crash dialogue pops up. Crashing happens frequently on zone changes/ fast travelling but not always, sometimes I’m in combat, sometimes I’m running around, sometimes I’m standing still.

I am connected to the router (by ethernet, not wifi) but plugging straight into the modem is not an option for me as there are multiple people as in your situation.

Question for those of you experiencing the same issue, are you on a store bought PC or a custom built? Mine is custom built, my first build actually so that was my first thought is that something isn’t right..but again I haven’t had a single other issue in any other program or game. Everything else runs perfectly fine…my RAM timings are what they should be…I’m not overclocking, temps are good.

All settings are on high with the exception of no AA and view distance, shadows, and shaders on medium. I’ve tried experimenting with changing these but have not noticed any difference. If there is a difference it would be hard to tell since the crashes happen so randomly. The issue does seem to be worse when Chrome is running, but again, I can’t be sure, it could just be coincidental.

I posted this in another thread but deleted there and decided to make a new thread regarding my issue.

I am having near constant crashing reporting that a file has been corrupted and a repair is required. This happens 20+ times a day, sometimes 5-10 times within 5 minutes or so. Repairing does nothing, and I’ve found that I can skip the repair and the game still runs fine (until the next crash that is). Specs are as follows

Core i5 2500k (3.3 ghz)
GeForce GT430
8GB of RAM
Windows 7 x64

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, I plan on running a memory test later tonight but I really doubt this is the issue considering I’ve had no problem with any other game or application.
