Also to anybody complaining about the pet being removed I don’t see where this proposal says that the pets are gone. If you want the pet then just don’t stow it away. nobody is forcing you to not use your pet, it just gives people that don’t want it a viable option.

When I made my proposal in the CDI thread about my idea for stowing pets and gaining a pet specific buff I was really surprised when I sat and read through the rest of the pages, and seeing how many other people proposed close to the same exact thing.

From my perspective I think as a class we should have options. We may be the main pet class, but we’re also a good skirmishing class, and I think there should be an option to play the strengths of the latter while others can play the former as well.

Not to mention that if this is utilized we are still relying on specific pets or their respective families to draw their power and gain buffs. We just aren’t using the pet as a separate entity. I think that a Ranger drawing power from animal spirits is a pretty hardcore form of nature magic too. Almost like a druid of sorts, which is pretty awesome.

As for pets themselves I’m not personally against them. It’s just that at the moment they don’t feel like they’re a strong part of the class because of their immensely large list of vulnerabilities and shortcomings.

Instead of a personalized pet that’s an extension of our character, that we can become attached to and enjoy, we get an incompetent AI follower that we can only change the name of (which isn’t even permanent) that sucks up a large portion of our damage output while offering little in return.

Proposal Overview

Changing the Ranger’s pet stowage ability to give the Ranger passive buffs when the pet is stored away, returning half of the lost damage output, and altering Trait Lines to give non-pet Rangers more viability.

Proposal Goal

The goal of this proposal is to make the Ranger class a more desirable option for players that don’t want to use a pet or find themselves in a position where having one is detrimental to solo or group play.

Proposal Functionality

When the situation arises or based on the players personal taste the Ranger can choose to stow his pet indefinitely and gain a Passive Aura buff based on the pet.

(Ex. A stowed Raven has the “Bird Aura” buff which grants Swiftness)
(Ex2. A stowed Black Bear has the “Bear Aura” buff which grants Protection)

Stowing a pet will also return 15% of the lost damage output Rangers have from using pets.

Passive Auras can be further buffed and diversified by newly added or altered Traits within each Trait Line that boosts the performance of the Passive Auras, changes what the Aura does, or adds to the functionality of a specific Aura.

(Ex. Marksmanship Grandmaster Trait: Bird Aura makes every Longbow shot have a 20% chance to cause Bleeding)
(Ex2. Wilderness Survival Master Trait: Canine Aura grants faster Endurance regeneration)

A cool down will be applied when the player stows their pet, and removes their pet from stowage.

While it isn’t mentioned in the Ranger info area specifically, we also added owner Agony Resistance to pets.

The pet stats panel still shows it has 0 AR.

The only thing I hate about the Kudzu is that stupidly random floating string that makes no sense whatsoever and is only there by a design flaw.

could you go into specifics? I’ve been trying to find something to replace my 0/0/30/10/30 bunker and I’ve never tried out traps exclusively before, other than sometimes using flame trap in dungeons.

They’re even hacking. I’ve met a lot of players who completely ignored daze/knockback/interrupt/block without stability and anything.
Traits have cooldown, so not traits.
Meanwhile there are people in WWW who just jump over the fort walls and solokilling the lord inside…

Except no.

I use Quickening Zephyr which grants quickness before I do a finisher, cutting the time in half. There’s also a trait that gives quickness on pet swap.

As for people ignoring daze/stun/knockdown with no stability there’s runes that can severely reduce the effect of any conditions, and sigils that can remove/transfer conditions. This is also not counting anything that grants aegis. There’s also lag that comes into play which can render entire attacks useless.

When it comes to people jumping walls and taking out keeps the only class that I know of that can do that is the mesmer class. Another would be a very good BM ranger with insane regen using the guard command pre-patch, but even then I doubt a pet could solo a keep.

I love how people cry and moan about the GS verses the Sword when it’s dead obvious and even stated that the GS for a ranger is a defensive/utility/evasive weapon. If you want to be a GS wielding roid monster delete your ranger and make a warrior.

Also regardless if the SB or LB does less damage than a Sword the fact is you aren’t right in the middle of the swirling crap escapade, which severely increases your chance of not dying in a large group. If you face somebody in a 1v1 and aren’t confident you can kill them with your SB switch to your Sword or alternatively fend then off with the GS while you run.

The ranger weapons have some faults and weaknesses, but maybe if you whiners learned to play your class and adapt to situations you wouldn’t be crying about it. That or play another class, and to top off the kitten cake RANGER does not mean RANGED FIGHTER it means DUDE THAT LIVES IN THE WOODS AND HUNTS STUFF if you want a ranged fighter ask Anet to make an ARCHER class.

I’ve been coming to the same conclusion after trying to pack my ranger with as much power as I can for the past month or so. It’s just simply impossible to get the ranger up to the other class’s GC spec without becoming wet tissue that explodes from a sneeze ten feet away, and even then you still do less damage.

I just hate coming to that conclusion because even when I fall back to a build that’s viable (condi/bunker) I still have almost no purpose when it comes to party play.

Here’s a thought I just had.

What if we made f3 use a defensive dodge skill instead of returning to the player, and we re-did the “Guard” and “Avoid Combat” button to better serve the function of “return and Heel” and “Attack and be aggro”

So it would be f1 to attack target, f2 to use special skill, f3 to use defensive ‘dodge’ skill, and our stance button would then be tweaked.

I actually think this would work very well. I was on the side of not having any extra buttons to manage, but this would give us the function without any.

I assumed that having a shared AR on your pet, and especially on necro summons would cause extra strain on the game/software budget. Kind of like having more than 25 stacks of the same condition does.

But then again I don’t know jack kitten about that stuff :V

What I want to know is why we don’t have a permanent store for pets, and I don’t mean the “I don’t want my pet but more dps” kind, but the “I’m running through a field of enemies and my pet is soaking them up oh god why can’t I get rid of you right now” kind.

Personally I could see Rangers using a crossbow, but I couldn’t see them using a rifle. I see Rangers as a scout (even though they really suck at that right now) and a rifle isn’t the most silent way of killing things.
