I would love the idea of a gw3, since while there is a ton of stuff that gw2 that IMO work great (Toon customization, Races, Fractals, Gliding, Weapon/Heal/Utility/Elite skills, Map meta events, post level 80 mastery leveling (although mastery points need to be less annoying to get), apparently mounts, living Story schedule)there are other stuff that IMO havent worked too well and need some reworking at a structural level (Single player storytelling, Underwater content, waypoints system could use a revison, mapping seams, inventory, hair and hats, crafting).

That being said ,is clear we arent having a guildwars 3 anytime soon and im perfectly okay with that. i already preordered PoF and probbaly will be also hyped for whatever xpac 3 is in 2 more years. but that doesnt means that start theoryzing a guildwars 3 with all the experiences, succesful experiments and failed experiments that gw2 have provided wouldn’t be too soon.

I feel that gw2 may be reaching his mid life, and i would bet that at least it will still be getting 4 years more of content and 2 expansions. But a gw3 isnt something that will come from under a rock out of nowhere with some months of development, but likely will have a good ammount of development years in itself. So i dont think is too soon to start wondering about gw3. I mean, in 6 years 4k probably will be the standar, lots of cloth simulation is going to be way more efficient and physics motors probably will be resource cheaper too.

As for GW3 storyline, I wouldnt mind going some more years into the future into a more peaceful time under the protection of a child aurene golden era, or at least not having to save the world every year from the flavour of the year villian. They still got the mist that are an excellent wildcard for exploration, instanced content and gratuituos warfare.

Please let the hair show it

when i first played gw2 with my engineer 4 years ago (since is more notable on medium armor) I though this was an issue that was going to get resolved shortly…

Silly me . . .

Fortress of text

Totally agree. I wouldnt mind a new expansion that instead of going somewhere else, is set to create a blank slate and a place for various adventures in all tyria (and this is coming from someone who REALLY wants to get back to Cantha). In fact i wouldnt mind if such an expansion is actually a kickstarter or something like that, pre-funded. so it can be free for everyone and don’t “need” to sell.

cough cough Plus it would be the perfect chance to add tengu cough cough

Solution: give feet a checkbox like almost everything else, and change the item so besides not having boots, it also leave a super rare trial akin to what legendary gives. so people who have spent their soul to get it still have something valuable… in fact, now the would have something.

Being the center of the universe in the story actually only helps me break whatever ounce of immersion the plot exposition could attempt to muster. this happens to me in a certain extent in singleplayer games when the npcs are all “chosen one, defeat the evil imperator by killing those 10 rats in the basement blah blah”, but is CERTAINLY more noticeable on a MMO where you have 30 other chosen ones jumping up and down while waiting the dialog to end.

I was replaying some of the dungeons recently and i actually liked that your character most of the time is a handyman that helps progress the story, not the story itself. even more true if is not my character on the cutscene, but a party member.

Meta events when done right can be also a great way of storytelling even if you risk to make it feel like an amusement park ride when you are doing it for the 50th time to get that god kitten rng loot. in retrospective some of my favorite storytelling in gw2 have done on dragon stand meta, tequatl meta and specially on verdant brink meta. Having to cooperate for building tier 4 map, having to defend a camp with improvised "party"instead of a train since you need to cover more ground, working hard to get the biggest amount of bosses dead, and then o the canopy of the last boss watching the sunrise, is actually quite good storytelling without having an npc calling you boss all the time, or being the center of the universe (not even commanders are the center of the universe on meta)

on the other hand story instances have tended to be dreadful, and while i loved LS3 maps, and the dialog can be decent at times, whenever my character opened its mouth was pure dread…(and i played as different characters and different races) I do wonder if story instances could benefit from a Gordon freeman while they flesh the npcs and the lore.

I would LOVE if they take an witcher approach to story writing, while Geralt is certainly not a slouch on the heroics and legendary deeds department, and probably one of the more powerful and meanest mofos around, the story telling usually tends to be either very rich autoconclusive sidequests or big story arches where Geralt isnt the center of the universe but another thread in a beautiful tapestry .. in fact in witcher 3 Geralt isnt even the chosen one, Witcher 3 wild hunt endingBut is Ciri who fulfills a world saving prophecy, and you get the best ending by learning as father figure Geralt to be a suportive secondary character, which is extremely compelling as innovative fantasy epic storytelling, and fits perfectly into the Geralt as a father narrative

In Gw2 whatever character archetype and story we as players imagine of our character we certainly still end being a little as Geralt, a competent individual full of lots of experiences, since the gameplay guides you there, and that should be the main “assumed” circunstance of the player character, the other Imo should be left as a silent protagonist and as for the more instanced content, I wouldnt mind not being the only thing mattering. Is hard though, considering the negative feedback Kormir and threharne have got :/

Ugh, the true reason why we haven’t had another race join is not cause “it doesnt fit the story”, (Thats dumb as hell), but because the developers consider that the work/reward ratio isnt there…

I wouldn’t say that “it’s why we haven’t had another race”, just a consideration when adding a feature. Saying that suchandsuch is the reason we don’t have something alludes to you having inside knowledge because, as far as we know, they could have been putting in work to add one or more races to the game since the very early era of the game, in which case, the reason we don’t have it is because they aren’t finished.

Saying that its because of a work/reward ration alludes that they have stated they will not add a new race unless that problem (work/reward ratio) is resolved.

The only “reason” that can be 100% accurate is that the devs simply want to add other things into the game first. That’s it.

I don’t have inside knowledge, but i do have safe assumptions, and facts, and there are 2 facts that A) developers are aware than some of us want a new race. two expansions knowing this but no new race. these at least tell us that a new race isnt prioritary, or certainly less prioritary than new maps, new ways of exploring and new professions/specs.

that being said, we know that a new race IS a lot of work, and certainly the work/reward ratio of it was worse than gliding or implementing specs, (which probably also was lot of work) that being said, certainly is a problem with a solution, and thats it that the interest of a new race, or the “reward” outgrows the work (or that Anet stumbles with a miraculous solution to cut the amount of work, but wouldnt bet on that). and who knows, maybe is quite high in their list on priorities, just behind mounts and elona. but as long as they dont feel that its worthwhile they certainly not doing it, specially since no-one wants a new race as an lazy afterthough.

In that regard i dont think our opinions actually disagree that much, and the point of my comment above was that the story was being written withouth tengus making sense on it cause they are not a playable race, not that they are not a playable race because the story was being written without them on it, which some people were implying. If Anet want to implent another race, that race will start making sense on the story, unless you are a norn I guess XD

(I do love asura, and asura along humans have been getting some love on the story, but sometimes i feel that the only reason they get that much screen time is because they are good plot expositionist :c )

Does anyone like the mastery system?

I like the mastery system, and as a player that likes to roll with different chars, i appreciate that this is a level up system designed to be account based.

Could be better? certainly, specially aquiring mastery points, which for me is the main bottleneck, but if they ever do gw3, i would like if they could revert the max level to 20 that would work as a tutorial, and all the further level up to be done with mastery systems…

If say Tengus or dwarves or quaggans are the new feature of xpac 3, be more than sure than the living story season 4 is going to make them made sense… Plus, right now what kind of sense does the norns make in the current story? they tried to made them made a little sense with jormag, and now that flew out right trough the window… It certainly doesnt mean that a net should delete all norn characters DX

And the retroactive story is already a mess , even if you dont play revenant. and is not like they couldnt patch it by simply stating “the following event are a reconstruction or events past, yadda yadda”

To be frank im a little tired of the pact commander, savior of tyria, honorary shining blade etc etc etc… storyline, so if the even get to reset that im happy with they adding any race for it, even a ridiculous one like Candy Corn golems.

New Expansion Spoilers - Crystal Desert

As much as I want playable Tengu, im pretty sure not gonna happen at least this expansion. such thing would have been already sightly leaked, and we would had tengus somewhere in the LS3. a hint or something.

That being said, Tengu have the adventage over other races like quaggans, skritts, Hyleks and centaurs that their body builds might work decently with charr armors (since they were originaly going to be a playable race and all) so besides helms and feet, some of the adaptation work would be done already.

The second argument of story coherency IMO isnt that strong cause i feel the story is already all over teh place doing whatevers.. in fact when i played teh personal story, zaithan battle and the restoration of orr wer already arranged in a different way that made some dialogs have 0 sense… dunno if this have already been corrected though. and while I LOVE the lore of Tyria, the pact commander storyline have me bored beyond heavens.

That being said, i would love to see a Tengu communnity somewhere on the desert, akin to the Tengus in maguuma, maybe you can theme this up like osiris and egypts… or something XD…

and i really hope that if they decide to never let tengus be playable, at leasssst they could open friggin dominion of winds and stop being a huge spot of nothingness in the middle of tyria.
