Well it has always irked me how in most MMOs as with the existence of mini pets they’re almost always quite useless (besides the cool skin factor).
Where as many would disagree that that is enough, I would beg to differ based on the number of players that you can actually see equipping minis at all ingame.
While the fact that they tend to to stow when you die, etc is also a factor to that, I still believe many wouldn’t bother summon them at most times regardless.
My suggestion is an open one at that as I only have fleeting ideas.
In general I am thinking that the miniature business can benefit greatly if the minis came with a bonus, even if accordingly a miniscule one at that.
For instance, I can imagine one of the easiest ways to do that, can be to make the minis function as mini portable banks, they can hold up to 10 items or so on the go, that would not be so bad.
Alternatively they can serve as extra inventory slots when summoned or provide some meager boons as they follow you around.
One more thing I can think of is providing minis with the ability to enable them to auto-loot corpses, etc.
Oh and it also occurs to me, the cool function of pets in the game Torchlight 2, where your pet can be loaded with all kinds of junk and then sent to vend off said junk in a set amount of time while you’re preoccupied in a dungeon for instance, that is something I would love to see.
That is just off the top of my head.
But evidently any seemingly fun or attractive function can effectively revitalize the now seemingly dead mini pets business and add worth to the already existing system.
Thoughts?

Well I quite agree with the concept, it’s basically one more thing to fiddle with, an extra source of income for Anet if variations of it is added to the gemstore and perhaps even an interesting new aspect for the game if there was say, dungeon themed mounts that can be acquired using dungeon tokens.
As for the function I cannot say if it would be useful or harmful on the long run if the mounts did anything more than look cool, for instance providing permanent speed buffs, as I can assume that this can be used to skim through map completions which is I believe not something the devs would want to see happen.
But overall I agree that mounts is something GW2 could definitely benefit from.
