Isn’t this normal? Or am I just biased and it doesn’t happen in other MMOs?
I think the correct answer ought to be “This should be normal.” Alas, the GW2 experience still feels rare among gaming communities, from my perspective anyway. Something about the way the game is presented promotes that go with the flow attitude lol. Oh, and playable flute
I think Final Fantasy 14 is probably a close second.
The combo pack is finally back. (yay) 4 days only however.
Still unhappy?! You got what you asked for. Get it. Use it. Have fun with it. You do not need 4 days to make a simple buy in gem store that can be done in 4 seconds.
ArenaNet listened, they actually listened to community about the mini cat witch and bad wings. You should enjoy, and say thank you, not criticise.
Criticise who now? The Bat Wings are in the store for 4 days. I am not the only person who was waiting. It would be nice for others who followed the thread to be made aware of the time constraint. My response was plain, and without sarcasm.
Though I did break up my response between three seperate threads. ( including this one and this one ) If you read them all you might come to a new conclusion about how I felt when I realized they were on sale.
Anyway, I’m going back to floating about Tyria with bat wings now.
Ask and ye shall receive! They added them back for a few days.
The combo pack is finally back. (yay) 4 days only however.
Awh yis the Bat wings are in the Gem shop right now. THANK YOU anet!
Apparently the last time it was announced was back in August. I wish whey would bring it bring it back. Seems strange that they wouldn’t bring it back for October. I want them Bat Wings. Been waiting for quite awhile.
I want them tooooooooo!
D:
So do I. So do I.
Bat Wings you guys. Please make it happen Anet.
Hey there.
I do like the spectral glider, but I (really) need me some bat wings ANet.
Just in time, right? Halloween you guys!
Please make the Bat Wings Glider Combo bundle available again please.
(oh please)
Can’t agree more with op. Heart of Thorns is finally feeling like a proper expansion with this episode. The voice work is as consistent as ever, and hearts are finally back, …and they are repeatable (hot kitten !) These are the things that attracted me to the game at launch. Kudos ANet. More of this please.
Pretty sure that built-in supersampling option renders at twice the resolution you select in the graphics options pulldown. Unless the resolution is too high, that is. If you have a 4K monitor for example, it won’t attempt an 8k sample. (lol if there is such a thing as 8k) I don’t know where the cutoff is for that.
Ey Ranger community. Anyone who has seen my post history knows I’m a Sylvari fan. Well.. the trend continues! Rolled a new Ranger to try out Druid things. That, and I wanted a character that has the appearance of a reserved or withdrawn personality. A few hours of fiddling with facial detail sliders later and shy ranger Duellah was the result.
I never see people use the asymmetric Sylvari faces, so I was pleasantly surprised to see just how detailed this one is when I got in game.
Cheers
Hah ha! YrocRenrut, This Ranger. Framed SO WELL in that first screencap. Look at this fierce Ranger’s face lol! That hair crop, so sharp. Can’t even see the characters eyes, but the posture telegraphs “confidence”, with lips amusingly pursed in what I can only imagine must be utter certainty that her gear is COMPLETELY ON POINT. All the good. 10/10
Hey mesmer community. I’ve polished My fav mesmer Choristantha’s outfits from the original post just a bit over time. I love the Jungle Explorer outfit, wearing that typically now a days.
Also: is it just me or was ArenaNet holding back when they were showing off this jungle? I had to remind myself that it was an MMO in a couple of locations.(Jaka Itzel for example) No need to re-touch anything. Just Guild Wars 2, maximum everything.
Cheers
Outfit still evolving but growing somewhat content.
I haz a jealous. Can’t get the heritage skins myself T_T …ALSO: That Disney reference Charr in the corner haha! So. Good.
My chronomancer’s new look. I wish it was possible to dye the electric effect on the tempest shoulderpiece though.
Amagash, perfect color for that fur/pattern, Eye patch and jacket. So fierce.

Luphine Coalhart
Really good. I almost regret not buying that outfit. Norn Aristocracy indeed. If only you could display a monocle while wearing this, amirite? The only way you could make it better imo.
Un-edited screencaps of course. Same mesmer from this post. Hats off to the krewe behind art direction. I don’t always display wings. But when I do.. I prefer White Wing.
~The most interesting Mesmer in the world.
lol jk
Here’s my medic ^^
Hah! I’d have never thought of this. Cool use of the Dark Asuran Pistol to match.
I was wondering if anyone found nice combination along Charzooka?
Not I, but then, I was always more fond of The Hunter.
This Sylvari warrior is one of my fav first-string characters. (along with the mesmer and engineer ) Up until that time, I hadn’t even given warriors a chance, but during the Dragon Bash special event a few years back, I had the uncanny luck of looting TWO of the tickets for the Dragon’s Jade weapons. They were like 1 in 1000 chance to loot right? After that I just had to craft a warrior character specifically to equip these weapons, and this is him! Images are un-retouched, save for the crop.
He goes by the name Fulgadrum.

Need some fashion advice. Which one of these gives more of a creepy/“I’m going to kill you in your sleep” vibe?
The first one wins my vote. Almost seems oily.
Meet my mesmer, Nrhina Meres.
I fell in love with the Dwayna Weapons and for that reason I had to give up my old engineery-look
So I hoarded some Dwayna Weapons with my Black Lion Claim Tickets and started to look for the perfect armor-parts for the Dwayna look.
This is what I ended up with
…
Wow, this has to be the best use of the masquerade mask ever. That effect showcase in the second screenshot seals the deal, really nice.

Hey wow so, I’m one of those in the GTX980 community of users that have been suffering from the constant crashes from Guild Wars 2 unless I take a steep undervolt/underclock (among other things) to stabilize it. For months and months.
Thing is since the beta began this weekend, I haven’t had to do anything to keep the game stable… at all!
Just came to say THANK YOU DEVS!
I don’t know what the krewe did to tighten up the code, but not one crash since this last beta test began, it’s been completely stable all weekend. (Forum mods please let em know)
Keep this goin yall!
Oh, while we’re on the subject of prayers answered, could you make a necromancer’s minions dance when the player dances? That would be both hysterical and great. Thanks again.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having this problem. I just hope it gets fixed.
Same issue everyone else is having, the client will randomly freeze up as if the video is trying to reset and I’ll be forced to end task the client due to not responding. I’ve done most of the above fixes trying to pinpoint the problem without much success.
Running Windows 8.1 with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660.
No you are not the only one. The Guild Wars 2 client has had this issue for a very long time and they have never ever ever fixed it. Thankfully there are a few self help threads like this one. This isn’t even close to the first on this topic, and it won’t be the last, I fear.

I’ve been afflicted by the same-ish issue. It was annoying before, but now the game locks up my tower within seconds of pressing play every single time, sometimes within one second of clearing the loading screen. Can’t even submit a ticket in-game. Started around an hour after they patched the game at the end of that PAX stream earlier today.

Slive, I was looking at your GPU-Z Sensor log and I’m snowballing on this one just because the temps are a bit high even for nVidia to handle. Your card gets upwards to 161 Degree fahrenheit. Try running the game with the side panel removed and a small fan forcing more air into the case. I have a feeling the card is overheating.
I tested again with the current settings just to pay more attention to the temperature. The GPU fans do not run unless I’m playing the game. Seems like the idle temp is pretty high to not run the fans, but what do I know.
When the game started, the fans kicked on pretty quickly. The fan speed read at 30-40% in the afterburner program. The temp got up to 140F but went down to 130F after the fans had been running for a sec. The computer crashed at 131F (I had GW2 minimized at the time). It crashed after only 2 minutes, perhaps because I kept going in and out of GW2.
You guys, 161 degrees Fahrenheit is 71 degrees Celsius. The card is not overheating. The 970 thermal limit is 98 degrees Celsius, or 208 Fahrenheit.
Also yes, Core clock is the one I was talking about reducing. Or Power Limit. Good luck.
Hey Slive. Just wondering if you’ve tried underclocking your 970 yet. Drop the core frequency by 400MHz or so, or reduce the power limit to around 65% (don’t try both at the same time) and see what that does for you.
Gotta say, your issue looks alot like what happened in another thread awhile back. Could help to read what other people have tried to solve this one.

Tribal asura, Full mordrem weapons.
It’s as if they made the mordrem set just for this purpose, that staff matches perfectly!
Various poses, various looks, all Sharkey.
Lol Oh wow. So I think that is the best dressed Charr mesmer in a long time Sharkey. What a gentlecharr haha! But then I’m always a sucker for the pose.
Reminds me of that amazing Charr mesmer Seki posted awhile back in the sticky “Show us your mesmer” thread. One of the few characters that looked like he could actually wield the Volcanus: (follow the quote to see the image)

In addition to the first three, I have one other set that I ended up pasting the other pieces of the Zodiac collection on.
This is my mesmer Noodlefox
I recently got her this new hairdo and I’m totally in love with it!
Nice haircut Noodle, also liked how the blossoms on the hip begin with the primary color and fade to the second on that piece.

Hey people!
Guild Wars 2 was an impulse purchase for me after reading some of the lore on the site. I liked the idea of the Pale Tree and the Sylvari coming into their own one day at a time. I had never played the original Guild Wars, so it only felt natural that I start with a character who (lore wise) was just as new to Tyria as I was! Could not have asked for more.
Well, after I got in-game that is.
I was pleased enough by the character creator that I spent my first two days in Guild Wars without a character, testing out every combination. After hours pouring over each permutation and splitting every hair with every slider, watching/adjusting/re-watching the character animate I was finally satisfied with the result: an inquisitive dusk-bloom mesmer and Explorer in service to the Durmand Priory, and my go to character when adventure (or living world) calls.
In the years since launch even with all the exclusive new colors, facial appearances and hairstyles, I wouldn’t change a thing. Attached my favorite looks:(all un-retouched images of course, save for the crop)

By the way, her name is Choristantha.

Love This character’s expression.
My mesmer and main character.
What color is that on the shoulder feathers? Great compliment to the skin tone imo. Lord Taeres’s Shadow as well.
Hey, well glad to hear it. Sorry the explanation wasn’t more concise, I tend to prioritize clarity over brevity when there are that many steps. Anyway, have fun!
I’ve already RMA’d the card, but right now I’m using my old 7950, and it’s running at 16x 3.0.
Could the 980 have been running at 8x on the same MB?
If so, how could I make it run at 16x?
I have an ASUS z97 Sabertooth Mark 1
I’d be lying if I said I knew the answer to that one. Next time you have the card, just make sure to check. Does the BIOS in the Sabertooth provide for explicit choice for link speed? If not, just make sure the pins in the PCI bridge are clean, or re-seat the card, using the tan colored PCIExpress slot on that board. the board is supposed to default to x16 x0 if it doesn’t detect anything in the other slot.
Good luck!
…The second way: Use the Windows command prompt to check for evidence of a successful connection.
Without a protocol analyzer, you’re quite limited to how much you can see, but because we know the process we can make an educated guess as to where a connection is failing.
Once Windows receives a reply from a DNS server, it stores that information in memory for a number of seconds, so that it doesn’t need to ask again if it makes another connection to the same server. You can use IPCONFIG to check your computer’s memory for the ArenaNet and NCSoft records in RAM in this fashion.
Close all applications, including the Guild Wars client if it is open. We want to limit the number of requests for new information from Windows as much as possible, for readability sake.
Open the command prompt, and type ipconfig /flushdns
(we don’t need to read all of the old data)
Once you have done this open the Guild Wars client.
Return to the command prompt and type ipconfig /displaydns
Under the assumption that the Guild Wars client successfully accessed the network stack, and your computer sent a DNS request, and the DNS server returned a reply, Windows should now have records of the servers that the Guild Wars client is looking for, as reported by the DNS server. Windows will hold on to these records so it can make a direct connection from now on. They may look a lot like these, for example:
cligate.101.ncplatform.net
—-——————————————————-
Record Name . . . . . : cligate.101.ncplatform.net
Record Type . . . . . : 1
Time To Live . . . . : 207
Data Length . . . . . : 4
Section . . . . . . . : Answer
A (Host) Record . . . : 64.25.40.116
assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
—-——————————————————-
Record Name . . . . . : assetcdn.101.ArenaNetworks.com
Record Type . . . . . : 5
Time To Live . . . . : 14
Data Length . . . . . : 8
Section . . . . . . . : Answer
CNAME Record . . . . : assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com.cdngc.net
If you don’t see records like these in the list then you could be experiencing some of the problems I enumerated earlier describing the protocol analyzer.
If you do see them, keep Guild Wars open.
At the command prompt type netstat -f
Even without being able to see the frames as they arrive with a protocol analyzer, netstat can reveal whether or not your computer has established a connection with a server. the “-f” flag will invoke the FQDN of the connection if it exists.
If your computer has already completed the TCP [SYN][ACK] handshake, that connection will be visible to you in the netstat -f output. It might look something like this:
C:\Users\YourUsername>netstat -f
Active Connections
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP <localIp>:<Portnumber> 64.25.40-119.ncsoft.com:6112 ESTABLISHED
There may be a number of connections in the list ^
If you don’t see an established connection then you could be experiencing some of the problems I enumerated earlier describing the protocol analyzer.
It’s all about troubleshooting really. I have no idea what the problem is you’re dealing with, but you might be able to figure it out, or at least determine where the problem is with some detective work.
Good luck!
Edit: Replaced mistaken instances of “netstat -r” with “netstat -f”. No need to view the routing table in this example.
(edited by Tabasco.1743)
Well, What have you tried?
Off the top of my head, I would check to make sure the Guild Wars client was actually making contact with ArenaNet, and there are two ways I could go about it.
The first way: Use a protocol analyzer. Programs like Wireshark can let you observe traffic you receive on your network interface. Learning to read the output can provide a clue as to what your computer tried to do when you opened the client.
Assuming the Guild Wars client can access your network stack the first thing you would see your computer try to do is issue a DNS request for the ArenaNet content delivery network. Does it? If not, it could mean that something in Windows is preventing Guild Wars from making a connection.
In theory you should see a reply from the DNS server Windows was taught to ask by DHCP. Does it? In theory, if your DNS server doesn’t know the location it will pass on the request to another DNS server until it is found—or not. If your DNS server is the SOHO router in your home you could try disabling that feature, and use your ISP’s DNS server instead.(Your router is just asking the ISP’s DNS server anyway, if it has a DNS caching feature enabled) Look up your ISP’s DNS server address(es) IN ADVANCE of disabling DNS caching on your home router just in case you need to manually enter that information at your network adapter settings dialog box in the Network and Sharing control panel.
Assuming the client’s DNS request was returned successfully, the Guild Wars client(your computer) will initiate a connection with the ArenaNet CDN via TCP and HTTP to fetch the login screen. You’ll see a TCP [SYN] from you, and then a [SYN][ACK] from them, and then another [ACK] from yourself once again.
Does this happen? If not, the networking interface in the direction of the missing frame could be filtering the connection between you and ArenaNet.
example: No TCP [SYN] from yourself? perhaps Windows has a firewall rule against the connection. Perhaps an overzealous Antivirus program is blocking the connection.
No [SYN][ACK] in response? Perhaps the router you’re connecting to has an Access Control List that is blocking the connection. Perhaps your ISP is blocking the connection.(unlikely, but if they were I’d call their customer support about it)
The Guild Wars client will attempt to open a number of connections in this fashion. If you see a failure, you’re that much closer to finding the source of the problem.
Disable it, so you can be sure if it is a bluescreen or not the next time.
You have to reboot once to make it really work i think.
Strangely enough it hasn’t crashed again for me to see it. In fact:
EVGA 980?
I couldn’t find a solution to it, hoping maybe it’s a bad card, going to RMA tommorow.
Not getting my hopes up though….https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/EVGA-GTX-980-FTW-ACX-2-0-BSOD-Hard-Crash/

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/303ss3/gtx_980_black_screen/
Yes it is an EVGA 980, the FTW model in fact like yours. Actually, underclocking the card also helped for a short period of time, like it did for you.
However I seem to have found some luck: the change from x8 x8 mode to x16 x0 mode on the motherboard DID IN FACT solve the issue for me. Still have no idea why it solved the problem, but Guild Wars hasn’t crashed even once since then. So far i’ve spent hours in game without a hiccup.
You’re also using an ASUS board right? Try checking to make sure the link speed is x16. CPU-Z/GPU-Z can reveal that information, if you hadn’t done that already. The P8P67EVO is a couple years older than your Z97-A is,(obviously) and only has PCIExpress 2.0 slots, but who knows.
Thanks again all for your help people!
Thanks for the input people.
I’ve had a similar issue quite recently as well.
Completely different problem from yours, I simply BSoD and reboot. No VGA/POST errors. However, I think the problem I have is linked to yours as the BSoD I’ve been getting points towards a hardware issue (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR – 0×124) and it only seems to occur while playing GW, usually within 10 – 20 minutes. Nothing else triggers it.
Like you, I’ve done everything I can to try and pinpoint the problem.
Other games run without issue. Stress testing comes back without errors. Nothing else other than GW2 causes it.What OS are you running? I’m running Win 8.1.
Windows 7 on this PC.
Rebooting mostly is a problem with an aged PSU that simply shuts down if it is not
able to deliver enough power when the PC is under heavy stress.Ofc make sure first if automatic reboot on system errors is disabled, else its maybe
a bluescreen that you simply don’t see.
Automatic reboot on errors is enabled so there most likely was a BSoD I couldn’t see.
This really sounds like a random error that not a lot of people if anyone will have encountered, you may actually be best contacting support directly with this problem and have them run threw all the tests they wish etc, to try and pin point it.
Id say that on the forums people would be hazarding a guess as to what the problem might be.
It does sound like a PSU issue to be honest, its almost like it cant produce the power needed, ( could be faulty ) and your signal loss is coming before the system is doing a memory dump before the cycle. ( which seems strange as I know that Crysis 3 is a beast for most computers, way more so than GW2 )
Yeah, this is a really obscure problem, not something I have seen in any of the threads here thus far (I’d have responded there). Just throwing it out here in the event someone had experience dealing with something like this.
I am pretty sure this a hardware problem with the PSU but what you COULD try is this.
I am not going to speak to the NVIDIA card but will assume they have the same issues.
in and AMD card under the catylyst control panel is an option called “frame limiting”. While this CAN (but may not) lower overall frame limits it will put much less stress on your power supply and generate far less in the way of heat. This is tied of course to the type of monitor you have.
Generally the default is “unlimited”. Try it at a lower spec and see if you crash as often.
I actually tried something similar to that approach by manually undervolting the card to see if reduced load on the PSU had a positive effect. Which it did not this time. Even at 40% under the reference design power for the card, Guild Wars was still seizing up.
That said I actually started seeing progress with this bizarre crash. The P8P67 EVO has the three PCIExpress 2 ports. The first two share bandwidth, (x16 on one, zero on the other, or x8, x8 mode for crossfire/SLI). The third only runs up to 4×. When I checked, the board was running in x8 x8 mode despite there only being the one video card installed on the board.
After it switched back to x16 x0 mode I have seen a marked increase in the game’s stability. Honestly, I don’t see why x8 mode should have such an effect on Guild Wars (it doesn’t anywhere else) but it seems like that may have been the source of the problem on this PC. Still testing as I said, and if it crashes again I’ll try switching out the power supply. Thanks again for the input all!
I’m experiencing an issue where recently, my gaming PC has begun to crash within 10 minutes of playing Guild Wars 2. By crash I mean instant “No signal” on the monitor, followed by automatic power-cycling of the computer, followed by a POST failure “long, short-short-short” (VGA Failure). It does not matter which character, within 10 minutes, (if not five) of pressing the play button this occurs without fail.
Sounds like a hardware issue right? I have tried everything from testing the memory, re-seating the DIMMs, re-seating the video card elsewhere in the PCI bridge, REPLACING the video card with a new card, reinstalling the driver, repairing the GW2 client, updating the motherboard BIOS, clearing the BIOS settings to default, ensuring the pins in the PCI bridge were clean… to no avail. Not even clean-installing Windows and Guild Wars 2 on a new partition has helped me with this. Press play… crash… power-cycle and POST failure.
Here is the godkitten kicker: This only happens when playing Guild Wars 2. Nothing else has any issue. I have no issues whatsoever, whether I’m playing Bastion or Minecraft or Crysis1,2,3 or Borderlands or Mass Effect or League of Legends or Homeworld or AudioSurf or TERA or Left 4 Dead or (anything!)
Under NO OTHER circumstance. Running NO OTHER program. Playing NO OTHER game does my computer crash like this. Only Guild Wars 2 causes this. ONLY. And it happens 100% of the time. And I am absolutely baffled/frustrated.
