Deimos, my guild already use this measure and we still regularly find ourselves capped or very close to it. We like to keep a couple of spots open as many of our guildies have the ability to invite people. And given that there isnt always a guild leader on to boot an inactive account it makes sense to be a few below capped. That be said thanks for the tip
Another idea i’ve also heard of is set everyone to a nominal rank, and everytime a guild leader see’s someone online, increase their rank to another rank. After X amount of time (say a month or 2) you have a fair idea which ones are inactive. Not meaning u have to boot them all straight away but still means u know who u can remove to make room. Havent actually implemented this idea yet as i’ve only just heard it.

While I agree that this is a much needed functionality…I must counter the argument that “A guild’s member list must be as efficient as possible!!!!!!”
For starters this has got nothing to do with being ‘efficient as possible.’ We regularly get people asking us to join the guild, its unfair for us to say ‘no, our guild is full’ when clearly we have many people who no longer play and havent done for months. Ok fair enough if they were a regular at one point, then we’re far less likely to boot them as we’ve probably upgraded the rank a notch for being a regular at one point. As for being militant, this is about offering people a chance in our guild when others are not there. And yes if someone was booted from the guild and they return to playing we would have them back.
Our guild has close to 1/2 of its members with less than 1000 achievement points, we’ve been at our guild cap for at least 3-4 months. doing the maths on that would mean than we have quite a few people that haven’t played for a long time and haven’t played much. And before any one tries shooting me down, i’m aware that not everyone’s inactive, but we need the tools to manage a guild, we simply dont have them at the moment
Its been quite a common problem since post halloween patch, while i’ve never fully discovered the cause, someone suggested deleting local.dat from the game directory which stores all ur in game settings. It fixed the problem for me havent had black screen since, that was 2 weeks ago.
Thing that annoys me is if Anet knew that it was going to be borderline from the beginning on 32-bit RAM limitations, why did they even bother to put 32bit on minimum requirements?
Secondly, if they know this is a problem with 32bit systems(which they do because support have said that know) why dont they actually post and acknowledge the issue, rather than letting us sit here hoping that they will do something about making it work on 32-bit systems, like it should.
Thirdly, if they arent actually actively trying to fix the problem, tell us so that we can either upgrade to 64-bit or get our money back, rather than sitting here and waiting for something thats not gonna happen.
A little bit of feedback from their end would be the respectful thing to do, considering many people have barely been able to play since the post-halloween patch over 2 weeks ago.
I checked out the thread and the issue you’re having sounds like a rather odd one, have you tried talking to support? as in support tab at the very top of the page.
If its a rather specialised issue and very few have experienced it, its probably better to get one on one help from the IT guys. That being said if anyone else has a solution feel free to post
Ok, so this problem has gotten worse, I started off getting black screens maybe 3 out of every 4 attempts to play the game, after a day or 2 of that, it worked its way up to about 9 or 10 attempts before getting in. Now for the last 3 days i havent gotten in at all and have tried at least 40-50 times.
On the plus side i’ve found out why my comp wouldn’t shut down after the game black screened on me. Some of the processes running in the background were also crashing after the game crashed and were hanging up the shutdown process, closing these at least allowed me to shut down normally rather than hard rebooting.
Has anyone found anything useful out relating to this issue? So far all I’ve had from support, is to open up the ports required for the game. Which has achieved nothing. Although i cant help but feel it is a bug with the patch after halloween (which i’m sure many others will agree), so far support have said nothing about it being a problem on their end and I’ve heard nothing about them intending on a fix. It would be at least nice to know they’re on the case, to acknowledge that they know about the problem by posting on the forums.
I had this exact same problem a week ago, sending a few 15 slot bags to a friend. Apparently he deleted a few old mail messages from his inbox a few days later and it showed up then. His inbox wasn’t full, he only had a handful of mail in there, but for some reason it only showed up when he deleted a few. Hope it helps
I managed to get into the game this evening and I filled out a bug report in the support tab so hopefully they’ll look into it soon.
For whatever reason it would occasionally allow me to ctrl-esc and close it manually, after that everything played up – directx stuffed up and i couldnt open any other games(which worked perfectly if i run it before gw2 crashes), norton internet security packed up on me, and if i tried to shut down or restart computer normally, it did absolutely nothing but beep at me….
So i figured maybe there was something gone wrong in system files, either that or a virus, which managed to get through norton. So spent yesterday arvo reinstalling windows xp. I didnt reinstall the game since its on a seperate HD. Anyway the short of the matter is, last night it worked first time without an issue. This morning however, its just black screen after black screen everytime i try start the game….
I did notice in the Arenanet notepad file in the game directory, is a list of all the crashes, and all of them are basically saying disk read error of gw2.dat

Also just discovered that DirectX files had some problems and was causing other games to not load. I’ve reinstalled DirectX which has stopped the black screens, but not fixed the problem. Now i’m just getting the bug report tab instead of black screen
In the last few days since the patch after halloween, after I log in and press play, the screens been going black with a cursor and thats all. One attempt I had the character select music playing the other 6-7 attempts had nothing but the curser. I couldn’t alt-tab, alt-ctrl-delete, nothing, just a hard reboot would do.
I’ve tried updating the GPU drivers(nvidia 9600gt) as the old ones were probably a year old, it worked the first time, but the next time i tried to log in, was the same problem, i’ve only managed to get in once out of about 9-10 attempts since, dont really like having to hard reboot system all the time either.
I search forums to see if others have had this problem and couldn’t find anything that match the same problems. I’ve read and done the things on the sticky threads, but to no avail.
