I don’t think anybody in this thread has yet considered the most disturbing possible implication of Mordremoth being able to resurrect his minions.
Scarlet could return.
Actually I had this same thought. Think of the cut scene at the end of that episode. The big grin on her face like she knew she would return and then the drill penetrated and released the energy. Wouldn’t be a big surprise if she was brought back somehow, just look at all the old dead minions in Orr there are to fight who lived previously.

Why not just buy the commander tag? Isn’t this a bit redundant? Is this just a PvE free commander tag?
Maybe to annoy those of us who bought one for 300g specifically for PVE mentoring?
Seriously though, I can see three use cases (plus subcases) for any sort of a tag in PVE. Identifying mentors, showing who is organizing an event (it is handy to just tell people the party with the blue tag needs help rather than explain where they are) and wearing it for bragging rights. There are also minor cases, like doing a champ run and telling if everyone is at the champ yet before hitting it.
Given the multiple cases, a mentor tag makes sense. It can tell new players who is there to help them. Hopefully it is not abused though, although the fact that almost everyone will have it probably reduces the chances of that.
If it does get over-used by players not wanting to help others a case could be made for some sort of a debuff when it is on. Presumably you will be helping players just starting (and thereby in low-level zones), so any build that can handle a zone over 30 without dying every 5 minutes would not have problems losing a few percent of some stat when the tag is turned on.
It could be useful in higher level areas too for people trying for world completion. I have played almost since the launch of this game and the 1st year was rough going. I am older as in AARP older and the only other sort of online action type game I played was DDO. I mostly played single player games before that or flight sims and racing games. I plan on going for this mastery since this was the draw for me in this game, cooperative game play and helping others

I thought you got mastery points for each time you leveled after 80? If not, I hope they have mastery points throughout Tyria as not all of my characters will enjoy maguuma wastes as it is already.
You don’t. You’ll start out with a fair amount of Tyria mastery points if you’ve done world completion and finished the personal story. There may be other points awarded retroactively as well.
For Maguuma mastery points, finish the LS Season 2. There may be additional points for finishing all of the story achievements.
I certainly hope there are other ways of getting the points! I was not here for all of the LS (and did not especially like the ep I got partway through), typically consider my PS over once Ft Trinity has been captured, and highly doubt I will ever get 100% completion (there is always one annoying vista or POI). A way to earn the points for those of us not “hardcore gamers” please?
This may be where the new mentor mastery track may help. I personally will be going for that mastery because that is how I like to play, helping others. I see a downed or dead player, I always head that way to help. Maybe someone will be nice enough to help you get your vistas and POI’s, that is what that mastery is for.

Posting again to share this though. If you have a challenging experience, don’t you feel like this after it’s over?
not if everyfight is like that… for me at least, others claim differently
Did not mean to seem offensive. I roam solo a lot and died a few times myself but after a while you get a feel for how the mobs play and you can avoid some and pick your fights with others as you get a feel for them.
I played my usual warrior a couple of races. The very first story mission was really a confusion for me but I managed. Went down once or twice in that mission. Then I played the second time, same class. I had a good idea of how the mobs played and was on that nasty archer first thing. Second mission play through went much better.
At first, follow around a couple people at night and stay cautious during the day. Sure it can be frustrating at first but It is a learning experience for sure.

As I stated earlier I did not think it was too difficult. I am a hardcore lazy gamer. By that I mean I play a lot but I play only one class, warrior. I tried others but none were to my liking. I may try playing a Revenant though, that looked interesting and some similarities to a warrior.

The mobs were a bit tougher and had a few deaths but it is a learning experience, I didn’t mind. I played a my usual profession, since I wasn’t going to take the time to learn a new profession. Will maybe do that from scratch and learn how to play Revenant at full release. I play a mobile warrior (dodge roll) with a hammer and rifle, always have (shh, don’t tell anyone I am doing it wrong. I am old, AARP anyone. You can teach an old dog new tricks but it takes time). I also mix gear and do not run pure zerk, you know play your way.
If I wanted to just explore, I went by day. By night I found the area not too difficult but I needed to keep moving. Gliding also allowed some freedom to move about. The old guild I belonged to is gone and I play solo now. It certainly is easier with a few others when moving at night and I did move around with others.
Maybe a small tweak here or there on the numbers of mobs spawning but I think the difficulty was right for this area. I really enjoyed the beta and look forward to another.

I don’t see how, since as far as I can tell the flow of the game has devolved into: run through the map as fast as possible and ignore all other players and monsters along the way.
You could have a Tank and it wouldn’t disturb the flow, since the flow is to just ignore you.
Not everyone plays that way but I am sure many do. I like to play the world, take my time, chat with NPC’s. and just roam around and explore. I see events nearby or someone battling, I play along. I have played 3 characters completely like this through the main story and the living stories. Once the expansion goes live, I will start another character and play through the whole thing again.
That said, I would like the ability to solo a dungeon story legitimately. I have played 2 or 3 of the dungeons with a small guild back some time ago. They are gone so I play solo. The LFG usually has the same, “speed run, zerk only” and very few story mode groups are available. I enjoy the whole game world and play the game for more than just a loot run.

Preordering and prepurchasing is silly indeed. Nobody should do either. I sure won’t – I’ll only buy HoT if it does what I want [No additional geargrind, no raid-like content].
That aside, I think the pricing is 100% fine, as is including the base game. Common videogame practice and has been for 20+ years.
Stuff gets ridiculously cheap after a couple years. These days, it’s after a couple months. Do you folks feel betrayed when people get some block buster game for nearly free? Nah, of course not.
Because that’d be silly, just like this storm in a teacup is silly.
Agree here. I may or may not buy this but why is it that people pre-order anything. What a stupid trend this has become.

Marionette was great fun. This was a prototype for whatever Scarlet had planned. Maybe there is some other area in the desert where Scarlet had more experiments. She talked of them learning, why couldn’t there be a self supporting colony of mechanical creatures rebuilding the Marionette. This would work right in as a world boss where it is rebuilt and we have to stop it.
