"ExePlatform.cpp(90)" error Can't Run/Install

I use normally use Pingzapper ease my lag spikes and latency. This problem started when I had Pingzapper errors that resulted in the account info and game profiles to be wiped from the program’s memory and also resulted in constant errors every time I restart Pingzapper. From this point on GW2 no longer wants to run as well, no log in window, nothing, not even Gw2.exe running in Task manager. This is tried both using the shortcut and directly running from game directory, both as non admin and as admin.

Attached is a copy of the errors log from the game’s directory which has repeats of the same error:

App: Gw2.exe
Fatal error (3): WSAStartup 0
When: 10/18/2014 22:25:03
File: ..\..\..\Core\Platform\Windows\Exe\ExePlatform.cpp(90)

I proceeded to uninstall both Pingzapper and GW2. I did not install Pingzapper again and my attempts to reinstall GW2 using freshly downloaded Gw2Setup.exe never actually starts anything, it simply will not run beyond the point of windows asking if I would like to run it or not.

A suggestion in another thread is to install with this instead:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe

Which simply resulted with the same error log being created as with trying to run the game before I uninstalled it.

I am running the latest Win7 build with all drivers up-to-date. This machine have been running the game since GW2’s launch fine, until now.

Upcoming celestial armor changes...

I myself have started a few topics on the changes to Crit Damage and how a temporary pathway to allow players to obtain new stats combinations for ascended armor, both here and on reddit. Now I’d say only armor because trinkets have been around for a long time, and also not weapons because that too was out for awhile when ferocity was announced. Armor on the other hand is a slap in the face, there was just about enough time to craft a set and the changed was announced…

My first post on the topic was actually a thought on a possible to implement this pathway while keeping it “fair” but not free while not in any level as expensive as making a whole new set. Sadly most responses were negative, not that they reject my specific proposal but they reject the whole idea of Anet having to attend to our “whines”. Some others just assume I’m referring to just Berserker’s since it’s the a Crit Damage change and because of that → downvote. I was referring to any combo that has Crit Damage.

Some others compare this to magic find and say that stats reset for that is a very different, since the stats itself was removed. I agree but this time round it still a very significant change to a stat and certain can affect decision making if the information was available BEFORE ascended armor was released. I would not be here right now if they announced ferocity before ascended armor came out which, honestly, is what they should have done. I also think that they could have done so as well. Looking back at the the timing obviously that have been thinking about ferocity for awhile already when they announced it.

Give zerker gear chance for a stat change

It seems that whenever this topic regarding changing stats on ascended armor and the change to Crit Damage comes up many people instantly assumes it’s to do with Berserker’s gear and how people want to change from it because “Berserker’s” is being nerf.

Step back and take a look at what is really going to be changed here which is Crit Damage which means refers to ALL stats combo with Crit Damage and not just berserker’s. People who have opted to go with Cavalier’s, Valkyrie’s and the like will feel that the initial trade offs in offense in comparison to Berserker’s or the trade offs in defense in comparison to Knight’s or Soldier’s is no longer worth it.

Please look at the situation whole fully by considering all gear affected and not just Berserker’s and all game modes that uses PvE gear, that is both PvE and WvW.

"Reset" Ascended armor stats for next patch?

Now, I’m not against the change to Crit Damage at all but as someone who have optimized and made ascended armor just before the Crit Damage change was announced, I’m still hoping that somehow there is a way change stats combo on those pieces.
Whether it’ll be to be able to temporary exchange the armor pieces for ascended boxes or break them down to the base components so that you at least have the materials you have initially invested on to work with. I don’t even mind going through the time gated crafting again if at least I can have the materials I already invested in once back to do so.

I’ve seen different opinions on this, from liking it if Anet does have a way to provide this to totally against it because “Anet isn’t responsible for what the players decide to craft and that they should not have to be compensating players every balance change”. And to that I can only say that players can only work with the information that was available at the time.
Had they announced the change to Crit Damage before ascended armor was released, surely many players, even if it’s not the majority, would have decided differently as what stats to craft for which pieces. The most irritating thing with this is the fact that the change was announced just not long after there was enough time for the average player to craft a full set.

So what are your opinions on this? Will this be fair? unfair? and why so?

Note: Please do not assume I’m referring to just berserker, I’m referring to any stat combo with Crit Damage.

Handling Crit Damage change for Ascended Gear

For people who think that this is a bad idea, or that it is unfair. I wish know what you think and why.

Some points I wish to clarify:

  • Crit Damage change hurts berserker the least out of all the Crit Damage sets.
  • Comparing the resources needed to craft a full set of ascended armor VS crafting a full set then using my proposed method to change the stats, the latter still costs more (more exotics insignias, more gold and laurels spent for new recipes).
  • This offer to exchange stats was never proposed to be a permanent service. Should only be available TEMPORARY. I’d say 1-2 weeks is probably reasonable.

Is GPU my bottleneck?

Anyways back to my original question. Does anyone know if i will get a big jump if i go from a 760 to a 780. I can say that in these same type events if i drop some of the shadows and reflections down and turn off hi res models it does get me above 30 fps. Another reason i think gpu is to blame.

I believe that shadows and reflections are actually more CPU heavy for this game.

Generally.

CPU Intensive Tasks:
Physics
Sound
Animation & Animation Interpolation
Particles
Decals
Polygons
Dynamic Lighting/Shadows
Reflection

GPU intensive Tasks:
Textures & Bumpmaps
AA & AF
HDR & Bloom
Resolution

Now that is not suggesting that you CPU is still sub optimal. Rather, the game is probably not as optimized as it could be for your setup (or most setups for that matter).

Not everyone has every build made for PvE. WvW builds could change a lot (that is become substantially weaker) because of this change.

Also, weakening crit damage shifts the balance between critical damage and power (that is, for example, it may be better to take Soldier’s gear over a combination of Cavalier and Valkyrie)

This ^

I will quote part of a response I made on reddit that is on a similar note to this to this

Quote:

Example of wanting to move to full zerker:

  • You are using zerker/sin mix but since Crit Damage is lower critting becomes less significant and Power becomes more important again. It’s all about the Ratio. This example is mostly about min/mixing in pve.

Example of wanting to move way from zerker:

  • You are using 3 Soldier and 3 Zerker (shoulders, hands and feet). due to normalizing of Crit Damage via Ferocity the shoulders, hands and footware which had very good Crit Damage ratio before the change, now have been hit the hardest. The extra Damage from these 3 pieces are a lot less now so you might as well go full soldier for a much better improvement in survivability.

The point is if the change was known earlier (before at least ascended armor came out) then these “new” decision making thoughts for the BiS gear would have happened before many people have crafted their set at all.

I just want to make it clear that I do not have a problem with Crit Damage changing to Ferocity and Berserker set ups being effectively “nerf” by about 10%.

What I am more concern about is mix/match setups, by changing Crit Damage to Ferocity effectively changes its ratio to other stats which may or may not decrease OR increase the efficiency of their builds.

Additional Points

Why are some people asking for stat change?

Seems like there are still people wondering why do you want to change stats on the ascended gear since Berserker will be the Highest DPS set still after the change.

  • Currently Berserker/Assassin is the Highest DPS set up for many professions in an organized setup, this will not likely be the case after the change.
  • Any mix using Valkyrie/Assassin/Cavalier will lose out on even more damage than Berserker pieces after the change.

Both people who considered maximizing Damage using zerk/sin mix and balancing defensive stats with Crit Damage pieces may feel that they are no longer optimal and may want to re consider the pieces they are using.

If anything people will be wanting to add more Berserker pieces to their setup than taking them away.

Ascended Gear is expensive and time consuming to make and that is why many people wish for a fair way to re-gear to the be more optimal again after ferocity is introduced without having to start from scratch.

Handling Crit Damage change for Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Taparok.4321

There have already been many discussions already on the topic of Critical Damage and Ferocity change that will be coming. I would like to propose a way for handling this change that takes into account what the player base is asking for as well as taking into account the technical difficulties that may be present.

Many have suggested that we should be allowed to do a one-time stat change for ascended gears or at least ascended gear with Critical Damage stat just like how magic find was handled but from my observations there are some technical issues here.

I would like to also remind us that EVERY builds that uses even a single piece of Crit Damage gear (zerk/valk/sin/cav/cel) is affected by this change. Mix matching gear is all about finding the golden ratio that works for your needs and thus even gear without Crit Damage should be allowed to change as well when taking this into account.

Problem with one-time stat change items

Magic find items were not removed from the game but instead have been converted to “one-time stat change” items. The majority of ways to obtain “magic find” gear have indeed been removed but some still do exists, for example “There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale” is still craftable.

Now, it is probably not the best solution or the most practical solution to convert all ascended gear with critical damage to “one-time stat change gear” as we are not dealing with removal of a stat but a re-balance. Applying the same method as how magic find gear was handled essentially means that for every Ascended gear made before the patch will be coded differently than ones after made the patch. This essentially means doubling the codes for ascended armor and weapons in the game.

And… if you are OCD like me, you don’t want to have Soro’s gear with Berserker’s Stats on non-transmuted gear and you want to be able to ping your gear and people can see the stats (Those people who have seen pings in chat of the old magic find rings will know what I mean.)

My Proposal

Please see the attached Chart

The method is not totally free but I think we can all agree that it is way better that having to make new ascended pieces from scratch.

Please note that I only see this as a TEMPORARY SERVICE that should only be available for only a couple of weeks just to ease the transition.

I really hope something like this gets implemented.

Reddit Thread

NOTE 1: This is just a suggestion, some people may have issues with this Proposal or there may just be flaws and loop holes that I have not considered. Feedback is very welcome.

LF [NA][PVE] Hardcore/(Semi-Hardcore) Guild

in Looking for...

Posted by: Taparok.4321

Taparok.4321

Hi,

I have been playing Guild Wars 2 since the Beta however I did take a few months away from the game. I am getting back into the game but playing much more casually now. Many core people in my current guild that moved over together from GW1 have either stopped playing for good or waiting for more interesting contents to hit the game. The few, more challenge driven individuals in the guild I used to team up with for most contents are playing less as well.

I am looking for guild/group of people who are slightly more focused on completing PvE contents efficiently. I have less time to play these days which is one of the reasons I desire for smoother runs. This does not necessary mean playing with the most elite of players with the fastest setups but it does mean playing with players that either understand the class they are playing or are open to constructive suggestions that may lead to better team synergy.

I little about how I approach playing the game and treating other players. I know that do not know all the tricks and techniques out there and I know this applies to other players as well so I am both willing to explain and/or listen, I’d like to be treated similarly. I put up with most parties including when pugging since I am obviously partly at fault for taking the lottery in the first place but on rare occasions I will leave if members are being incredibly rude even if it’s not towards me.

I consider myself to main a guardian in PvE with ranger as a close second. I also have fully geared Thief, Warrior and Mesmer but may be slightly unoptimized with runes and sigils etc.

I have looked into applying to guilds such as [DnT] and [LOD] but their requirement to represent and stay active are a little heavy. I would like to still be able temporary represent my current guild to help in with their guild missions or when I run a dungeon with them or even just to chat etc. I may in the future join a WvW guild as well and would like to be able to represent them for the right content. Also work/study etc. can fluctuate so at times I may just stop playing for awhile and it’ll be ideal if I’m not simply kicked from a guild for being responsible with the other “more important” areas of my life.

That was a little long but I hope it’s more clear on outlining what I’m looking for.

TL;DR
- Playing casually in the sense of how much time I can spare to play.
- Looking for higher play standard for when I do play.
- Mutual Respect, open minded and patience.
- Non-exclusive guild representation, i.e. I would like to be able represent my other guilds for when I do things with them or simply to go chat. Meaning that most of the time still will be representing the new potential main guild.
- I have considered [DnT] and [LOD] but at this point I do not think I can offer the level of commitment they seem to be looking for.

EDIT:
Added more clarification in the TL;DR

Soulbound Runes from Dungeon Chests

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Taparok.4321

Tokens now being account bound is a great thing, thank you ArenaNet. However, I feel that it will be great if you can push this a little further, to runes drop from dungeon specific chests as well.

One Dungeon specific superior runes costs 120 tokens and if you get a drop on a character that you will very unlikely use it on then the only current other options are to keep them (hoping that this will change) or vendor them for a 17 silvers each. Selling something that is worth 120 tokens each to vendors for just 17 silvers seems like you are throwing away a lot. Dungeon Exotic Head pieces are for 180 tokens each vs comparable stat gear on the TP will be going for 2g+.

For instance I have 2 Superior Runes of the Monk from Chests drops from AC Ex soulbund to my Ranger. Although my Ranger can still make use of it I rather use it one a set for my Guardian. Should I be regretting that I did not run on my Guardian for those runs I got the runes dropping on for my Ranger?

I can understand reasoning for when you buy things from the tokens vendors the items bought become soulbound, after all that was a conscious decision to use account bound tokens to buy soulbound items for a specific character. Of course it’s still a conscious choice to use my Ranger or my Guardian on a run but it’s up to chance for get the rune drop (vs. 100% trading 120 tokens for one) and the decision may also come down to team composition as well as experience gain.

Whether I run AC Ex on my Ranger or on my Guardian it’s still me playing. Just as getting tokens awarded to the account for you as a player (not as a character) then will it not make more sense to make Runes dropping from Dungeon Chests also account bound? Please note that I am asking to only make these Runes dropping from chests to become account bound. It isn’t necessary to necessary to increase the vendor price, 17 silver is not a bad price as is when you have absolutely no use for it on any of your characters.
