A call to arms?

Sorry to say that , but this crack pot theory (the op’s own words) is pure nonsense.

I have really to ask you one thing .. would you still celebrate the day, if your country’s ruler would declare out of nowhere from one happy day to the next one WAR ???

And why declare war against somewhing, against the whole world is fighting ? Theres no need to declare war against something, when the whole weorld fightsts against something … unless out of nowhere would rise up a new enemy that humans could declare now war to ..

So this theory is pure nonsense with no hands and no feet.

We all realise this is blue skies thinking, first and foremost. I agree that there is pretty much no chance of this happening, but to address your point from a storytelling perspective:

Humanity is at war. It has been at war for hundreds of years, with the charr, the tengu, the centaurs, the undead, the mursaat, even itself. Now it has the dragons to face on top of all those things, and it has been driven back to a few remaining strongholds.

Now imagine a Queen Elizabeth I “heart and stomach of a King” moment. The newly unveiled watch knights presented as heralds of a new dawn for humanity and their chance to be on the front foot and seize its own destiny for the first time in centuries. To go from defensive stagnation to a new golden age where humanity can finally carve itself a path to a future peace.

I’m not saying that this will happen (it won’t, sadly), but you could easily justify it along these terms.

That would be a pretty awesome way to go. It makes sense in the context of what’s going on in the world, and it develops the watchknights into something beyond just another mob. It also gives humanity a turn in the sunlight for the first time in decades!

I think this would commit them to one project for longer than they’d like though, especially as they’re still toying around with what they can achieve with the LS. It would make a sensational build-up to an expansion, however. I’m also not sure how it would manifest itself without new areas to explore this year.

As a side note, I would really like to see some of the watch knights being hijacked by a powerful human with links to the Separatists and used to try to restart the war with the Charr. This would involve attacks on the Black Citadel and sporadic conflicts breaking out in the (neglected) Fields of Ruin. My adventures in Tyria (and the sinking of Orr!) started with the cataclysmic war against the Charr, and I think the uneasy peace deserves more exploration than it’s had thus far.
