No. AN always over sells things, not on purpose… its just their presentation style.

Splitting the population of a game, let alone a MMO is always a bad idea. Given the current areas lacks content then ideally this should have been based there which would have been win win… lose…. lets not forget this will no doubt end up being priced to high.

This announcement demonstrates many things.
- They need money, things are not going as well as they had hoped. Thats fair enough, GW2 was a gamble. When ever you take a popular franchise then change the whole game but keep its name… the result is usually negative (Rainbow 6 for example)
- The living story content simply isn’t working, we all knew this from the start. They have waited to long to correct the situation.
- Perhaps the thing it demonstrates most is that the GW2 has been producing large amounts of content but not putting it into GW2, which of course would have solved most of these issues in the first place. Funny how all this works really.

If its anything more than $10 or the equiv in gems, I think many will avoid, and instead they will go elsewhere once the main game starts to lose population.

The good, a reduction in difficulty. The bad, its still timed and and multiplayer. It hasn’t been that long since Mad King so I doubt they’ve had time to make any changes to things already underway so it might take a few events until we see the downsides removed.

I also get this issue in WvW. I’m running a X-Fi Platinum Fatality Pro (Im sure theres another 15 words there), using the latest drivers. I should also note that all other audio on the machine continues to run fine (voip, or music etc) only GW2 suffers the bug.

Its there for 2 reasons, as a metric of difficulty and as a gold sink. Simple as that. Players make much more copper than they think, more than enough to cover typical travel and death costs. However GW2 doesnt do a good job of showing how much you make (which in itself could be a suggestion) and so many people feel as if they’re paying huge amounts when in reality they’re not.

If I was Arenanet I would wait to see how things go for Valve first. We should see the steam linux beta next month if all goes to plan and a small selection of titles moving over each week. Within 3 months or so there should be enough data to say of its worth it or not. I’d love a linux client, but Im also aware of the additional costs involved.
