This is still a problem. Perhaps it is her slower connection? Do those of you with slower connections find you have to wait almost a minute to load up the game to the character select screen, initially? And those with faster ones, load up quickly? The other loads seem quick and fine though.

Music at Character Select

I noticed since perhaps the last main update (May 19th I believe), that the music at the character select screen starts a little later now (used to start before the character screen even loaded), and fades out right after choosing a character. Previously the music would play until the loading screen was finished. Now, while waiting for the loading screen one gets to listen to nothing. I use the custom music playlist and get a bit annoyed that the music doesn’t continue to play through the loading screen like it used to. Was this change intentional? Will it be getting fixed? Always more entertaining to have music while loading, right?

Oh, and besides the initial load the rest of the loading is fine. Any ideas for her getting into the game faster?

My girlfriend’s GW2 takes a very long time to initially startup. From pushing the ‘Play’ button to the character select screen it takes 49 seconds. All other loading in the game seems fine. I know this amount of time seems inordinately large because mine takes about 6 seconds. She has tried the -repair command line though it didn’t change anything. I was wondering if anyone knew a fix for this long load.

Our specs aren’t drastically different (in terms of performance), but just in case it helps. Both have SSDs and both are Windows 7.

Hers is:
i5 4570 3.2GHz
8GB 1600MHz
Radeon 4870 1GB
PNY Optima 240GB SSD

Mine is:
Phenom II X4 980 3.7GHz
16GB 1333MHz
nVidia 660 Ti 2GB
Samsung 840 250GB

It used to be that specially made music would play when appropriate. It still does in most places, but like in the Living Story, it doesn’t work that way anymore.

Any improvements to the custom music would be a blow-the-doors-off improvement in my eyes. Anything.

Hmm. Why didn’t the italic formatting work on my last post? I tried editing it and using underscores, but that didn’t work either. I don’t get it.

EDIT: It’s fixed! Thanks Xar!

[theory] Locations of other pale trees

That’s highly unlikely given the petrification was a result of the Jade Wind which Shiro unleashed in 872 AE. The Kurzicks declared independence in 459BE – and most probably resided in Echovald Forest from that point on if they had not already. So that’s a pretty long time in which the trees were not petrified. I’d think the Canthan’s might have had some stories about the Sylvari if they had ever existed there.

There was the Warden who resided in the Echovald Forest. Just a thought.

From the old GW wiki:
"The mysterious and ancient Wardens guard the areas of Cantha hit hardest by Shiro’s legacy. Protectors of the Echovald that was, they now guard the petrified forest it has become. They may once have been human, perhaps powerful druids or holy men, but they long ago merged with the spirit they served to become something altogether different.

Now they stand as the ultimate protectors of the Echovald that is. The clan claims the right of vengeance for what Shiro Tagachi wrought, and blames all humans for the Jade Wind that stripped the woods and sea of life, but inexplicably left the Wardens unharmed. Driven nearly mad, enraged at their failure to fulfill their only purpose, they work in their own mysterious ways to reverse the effects of Shiro’s death, but until they succeed, they will threaten any humans they encounter. I think it’s interesting that the Maguuma Jungle in GW1 had several dead giant trees. Some of which are surrounded by giant thorny dead brambles. Ventari made his refuge under one of them.

Also, the old Henge of Denravi included the outer remains of a giant tree which was constantly watched over by a ray of light. The remains appear to be covered up now in GW2. Though rays of light still search the surrounding area. The beautiful fountain found there in both GWs still thrives, though now enjoys a very similar looking ray through it.

Seems to be the early concept of the new character Taimi. This was made way back as concept art never used from GW1’s Eye of the North expansion. I LOVE that never implemented ideas are coming forth in GW2. This concept golem is definitely more “Scruffy” than the one that made it to fruition (I love the actual Scruffy design though!). But I really appreciate that this story seems to have been in development for many years now. I do wish more links from the past were more apparent though (rather than ignoring them or covering them up – like the no longer existent Maw the Mountain Heart). Maybe we’ll get that kind of lore in Season 2. =D I want a deeper experience that makes more references to old lore and mysteries.

This post is similar to my previous post about another old concept art: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/madness/Look-familiar/first#post3539850

Hidden Clock of Light! (Easter Egg)

Yeah, I’m really hoping time travel becomes possible in the near future. It would solve folks missing old content n’ such. Also, it might have some neat ideas gleaned from the canceled GW1 expansion: Utopia.

I was contemplating a way of fixing the issue of having multiple instanced maps for different time periods (which fractures the the community further by spreading them out even more which leads to empty map syndrome) by having all players of an instance in whatever time (living story period) they are in, but players in a different time will be transparent somehow. I’m not sure how well this would work implemented n’ such. But I believe it would give more reasons to visit the maps and one wouldn’t be as likely to be on an empty map (meaning no other players around). I don’t know, just an idea. Might end up being confusing for some players anyways. I’ve just been trying to think of how new maps can be added without making the old ones desolate museums (as far as others being on the map) or changing the maps to something new (without losing old content that one can’t visit again and seems kind of wasted). Seems time travel might solve the issue perhaps. Hopefully, ArenaNet will have an even better idea up their sleeves. =D

Well, I have them as .jpg screenshots from GW1 and then GW2 from the same angle and direction. Things don’t quite match up perfectly since everything in GW2 is bigger and grander. Also, the camera heights and thresholds are a bit different which makes some shots more difficult to match up. Although I go for as much accuracy as possible from old to current states, sometimes I just try to make things easily visible.

If I could attach many screenshots I would likely post them with a short commentary about where each one was taken n’ such. I believe I can only post one attachment at a time. I’m pretty sure if I posted a screenshot of GW1 with the location and posted again for the corresponding GW2 shot with commentary I might get flagged for abuse after a while. Perhaps? I don’t know. I’d hate to go through the work for nothing.

No? Of course not. GW Factions concept art! =D I knew I’d seen something like it before. I think bringing back ideas that never made it to fruition in past events (or engine/workload limitations) is so dang awesome. I hope even more long lost ideas make it into the game!

I have a lot of high hopes for things in GW2 that have relevance to the past. Both in lore and in the creative process.

An example I would love to see is: the location where the derelict transporter at The Scar in the Crystal Desert become significant and explorable.

Random note: My favorite area in GW1 was the Arid Sea. I love that lonely vastness (like Shadow of the Colossus) and the views, and the mystery found there in the rotting cities (like the Ancient Weapon found in an old alley), the massive bones of an ancient creature, and the super awesome transport to Elona’s Crystal Overlook (absolutely LOVE how you can see the giant statue from Elona).

Sorry, one more thing. I really enjoy taking before and after pictures of Tyria! I have a fair collection of GW1 locations and what they now look like in GW2. I LOVE it when attention to details is paid to old lore and locations. When things match up, it’s surreal for me (kinda like Zelda’s Link to the Past VS Link Between Worlds). When they don’t, it’s a bit sad, but still fascinating how things have changed over the years. At those times I wish some (even vague) references to events in between were made to show what made the changes. I suppose the earthquakes and flooding count though. I would love to find another person’s collection, but I haven’t seen one on the Net. Anyone seen anything like that? I’d post them publicly, but I don’t really have my own site and don’t really have the desire to make one exactly yet. But I would like to share if folks have an interest in such things.

Ah, thank you very much. Earlier I was just looking at Amulets at the Laural Merchant and noticed that. I guess that’s not exactly armor, but still a stat booster. So, it seems folks can continue to choose between better stats and better loot.

Captain Ellen Kiel has been standing in the fountain of Lion’s Court since the return of the lion statue replacing the giant hologram projector. I don’t think this was intentional as it’s pretty unprofessional for someone of her status to be hanging around in a fountain while metallic ships and sea monsters pass through her.

I considered her to be a prominent character, but it seems she has gone unnoticed and perhaps neglected in this respect.

I was under the impression that magic find stats no longer existed on armor. But I noticed the Utility Infusions have similar issues (if not precisely the same issue). Mainly, Magic Find boost of 20% under the Magical Infusion. It would seem one still chooses between actual stats and loot. Is this intentional or overlooked?

New Fellblades?

Terry Bogard.6950

Just add me to the minority pile of folks who aren’t happy about new dual wielding of a sword I worked for and now also has fancy runes attached to it. I love my Fellblade and now it feels like it’s a lesser version of a new sword that is missing fancy runes and can’t be dual wielded. No worries if folks think otherwise and have their opinions. I’m just disappointed in the blatant reskin. I’m pretty sure no one will argue that the new swords are fancier, whether they like the pink runes or not. Whether they’re “better” or not.

Why not see new legendary greatswords folks worked for that could be redone into dual wielded swords, plus some new fancy effect of some kind. Does that devalue the work done before? It’s arguable as seen in this topic. Will many folks who worked hard for their legendary greatswords be unhappy and feel their work devalued or undermined? It seems undoubtedly.

So far we’ve only heard from folks who have noticed this screenshot. Later we could hear more from folks once it’s introduced.
