What multi-button mouse to get?

I own the G700, but honestly couldn’t get used to using the extra mouse buttons… I need to start trying again, because I’m still skill Icon clicking and I’ve been missing the icons lately >.<

It’s pretty easy to assign actions to mouse buttons on the G700, just do it with the Logitech software and not via the game’s manu, it can’t be done.
Just go in the Logitech software, create a Profile to be used only when you launch GW2 and then assign anything you want to any button you want

Thanatos.

I see your problem. That website does have a very limited range of CPU coolers. The Corsair is your only choice it seems. Whilst i still think its not the best choice over other possible coolers… for you, if this website is your only possible option, then it is the best choice out of whats available.

Just take your time when installing it making sure there are no leaks. Put the radiator and fan in a well ventilated position.. a good place internaly is at the top of your case venting out the top. Your other option if your case allows it, is to mount it on the outside of your case.
When it comes to OCing you will just have to realize that you wont be able to go as high as some of the recommended targets.

As for the RAM , the Corsair will be fine. The only time you need to worry about getting different ones is if you have the option to get G.Skill ..which tend to be just as good or beter for less money.. and they are also very usfull for when you need low profile RAM ..corsair tend to be tall and can get in the way of some Air cooler heatsinks.

Hey Solar, I deeply appreciate all your search. After reading your concerns I took the time and searched again and found out that there’s actually one pc-store that sells the Noctua cooler you’re mentioning, for a slightly higher price but well within my budget. As far as OC is concerned, how high would you think I could go with a) the H60 and b) with the Noctua solution?

Yes, it wasn’t up very long. I reread it and I was being too aggressive in my tone.

I’m not trying to get in flame wars 2012 here.

I know exactly what you wrote, and exactly why you wrote it though. If I don’t answer your “innocent” request for advice, then I’m just spouting ignorant non-sense. But if I do reply to your “innocent” request then you will proceed to flame me further. I know how internet game forums work, I’m not new here.

Ravnodaus, I honestly and most definately was not and will not flame you. I understand your concerns since most of the internet forums work this way but I would most gently request that you would share your experience on high level pvp with us. You have my word that you won’t be flammed, at least by me.

Wow…such…evasive and non informative come backs.

Someone who is pushing bleed damage on warriors..no, please keep giving your advice.

You mean like yours?

I’m not pushing anything. Different weapons are good at different things, lol. Sword does bleeds. It is pretty obvious if you even glance at them. It has a bunny hop and a cripple too, so it isn’t exclusively conditions, its got some movement and battlefield control worked in. Offhand has a very nice ranged bleed, and/or melee direct damage skill and a wierd bleed block. Again, pretty bleed heavy. The burst is a rapid series of bleeding hits… So, 5 of the 8 attacks on these weapons inflict bleeding. Maybe I’m the only person to notice that? Alls I’m saying, if you did go condition damage, the sword is an incredible weapon for that. And you’d be hard pressed to say it didn’t do enough damage. So, my advice? Figure out what a weapon actually is good for before saying it isn’t good for anything. It doesn’t need fixing, you’re just using it wrong. But if you’re using it, maybe it isn’t broken after all.

To quote my previous reply:
Hey Ravnodaus, since you’re a Warrior on a competitive team would you mind helping us out here and offering some much needed advice? What are you tactics, how’s your build, what roles do you take in the tPvP, your overall experience with the profession on a competitive level?
That’s if you don’t mind sharing these info of course, thank you.

I suppose that people are confusing 2 things: a) the awesomeness of Warriors in purelly PvE content, when you can simply butcher a non-moving, non-kitting, non-dodging, senseless mob that will stand its ground and suck up all the damage our skills can offer and b) the totally different situation that occurs in PvP, might it be sPvP,tPvP or WvW.

Keep in mind than when we’re discussing a profession and whether it’s good, bad, broken, efficient or not, we have to compare it to what other professions offer in simillar situations. That’s the only way to establish a good measure.
So comment away and offer your feedback UNLESS:
1) You haven’t actually played a Warrior ever in this game, your opinion is not substantiated. It’s like saying you can drible like Messi just because you think it looks simple.
2) You have played a Warrior only in PvE, your opinion is not substantiated ENOUGH, PvE is like training on a punch bag, everything works. Again you’re thinking it’s easy to do what Messi does in the pitch just because you’re able to do the same things when playing with your 8-year-old brother. Again everything works.
3)You’ve only played a Warrior on WvW, whenever there are 15 other people around you your class’s pros and cons dont become apparent. Same analogy again, if you put 5 people to man mark Messi at the same time, he could never do anything to challenge them, even if he’s the top footballer in the world.
Keep your references relevant, on topic and with actuall examples/experiences.

Ok guys, after taking into mind all of your comments I made some re-arrangements, that’s the new spec:

Corsair GS 800 80+ (CP-9020014-EU,80+ Bronze)
Intel Core i7 3770K (s 1155 , 3.5 GHz , 8 MB)
Sapphire 7950 with boost (Pci Express X 16 , 3GB)
Samsung 830 Series 128GB SSD (2.5", Sata 6Gb/s)
Corsair RAM DDR3 16GB (4×4)Kit 1600MHz Vengeance C8
Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H (s 1155, Z77, DDR3)
Corsair Hydro Series H60 CPU Cooler

I cut down SSD’s size and changed to Samsung instead of OCZ for better reliability and gained enough money to go from 7870 to 7970. Also changed the motherboard for an ATX model instead of the m-ATX to avoid issues with RAMs and cooler’s space, for the same money. Any comments on the cooling device from anyone?

PS. Monitor resolution stands at 1920×1080 on a 27" LG monitor. Dacooli, do you mind referencing your spec in order to compare?

Oh god Warriors complaining that they are underpowered-whats next thieves QQ-ing that backstab dmg is too low?
Warriors had 1 role in GW1 and that is to deal heavy dmg in melee or kd with hammers while having heavy armor to take any punishment sent their way.The new warrior has pretty much the same role(and they do both very well-warrior dps is one of the highest in the game) with the added use of dealing ranged dmg(crappy in WvW cause of lack of ranged?you are one of only 3 classes that can have 2 1200 range weapons) and possibly serving as a sort of tank (in PvE,bunker warrs arent really popular nowdays).
If you remember anet stated that the only class they were happy with (trait wise) was
the warrior.‘But our traits and utilities are boooorrrining QQ’what exactly do you expect-create an ilusion on jump?cause burning when you hit a female foe?turn into a pile of goo making you hard to look at?You are a big muscular guy that hits people on the head with large objects and out of all the profs has no magic or special abilities
,so what he does is boring but he bloody well does it good and if you disagree then
L2P,good sir,L2P.

P.S. At least your traits WORK try playing a mes or necro

I have noticed a lot of “you” in your post:“you’re not happy with this”, “you are a big muscular guy” etc etc. Have you actually played a Warrior in this game or you’re just commenting as an outsider? Because if you haven’t played a Warrior then you don’t get to say L2P.. However, if you have played a Warrior and you’re happy with the way the profession works I’d love to hear your suggestions on how I can better my gameplay.

Guys thank you all, fantastic feedback. I will wait for more answers to get even more feedback and decide from there. Small question SolarNova, everyone says (same as you) that when it comes to large scale PvP it’s the CPU that will need to handle the extra burden. Any idea how this CPU is selected would handle such a situation? Could I at least expect a playable 30-40 FPS performance?
PS. I am planning to OC but not higher than 4,2-4,3 GHz, just to be safe

MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC

I build my own gaming desktops, and always follow this rule-of-thumb:
Intel / Nvida, or AMD / ATI

Only other things are power and cooling.

Make sure you have a good PSU, and if you plan to run SLI or Crossfire at some point, the PSU needs to have adequate overhead to handle the additional GPU.

As for cooling, a well vented case and good fan positioning will let you OC.

Cheers!

Good point on the GPUs, I will actually build this one myself too but I think that ATI is more reliable at this point. Any feedback on how it will run on large scale events?

How about high settings? What do you think might need upgrade to run WvW on high at decents fps (at least 30, to be playable that is)? Moreover, do you suppose that or do you have actual experience with this kind of spec?

Guys hello, pretty self-explenatory title, I am planning on getting the following spec, mostly for GW2 but also for future games to come. I would like some feedback from people that actually have this spec (or seperate components of it) on performance issues or possible bottlenecks. I suppose I would have no issue with preformance on PvE content, I mainly need feedback/comments on performance on large scale PvE/sPvP and of course WvW.

System Components
Corsair GS 800 80+ (CP-9020014-EU,80+ Bronze)
Intel Core i7 3770K (s 1155 , 3.5 GHz , 8 MB)
Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 (s 1155 , Z77 , DDR3 )
Corsair RAM DDR3 16GB (4×4)Kit 1600MHz Vengeance Gold
MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC
OCZ Vertex 3 Series 240GB SSD (2.5", Sata 6Gb/s, VTX3-25SAT3-240G)

Possible overclocking on CPU is of course something I can easily do. Suggestions and/or replacement of various components are welcome. Thanks in advance.

You would think right!

But sword 2 actually leaps you to where they were when you pressed it. So if they’re running you will land just short enough that sword 3 won’t hit.

Pretty annoying. I found best time to use sword 3 was only when you were definately on top of them. Never after a sword 2 sadly.

Yes, of course. Didn’t mean to chain them, just use #2 to close the distance and land a couple of auto-attacks as well and if they try to run away cripple them, they won’t go far.

Yes, I figured that was the way with swords….it’s just that every other class has range aoe abilities distancing yourself was more of an advantage to them.

I found swords most useful for taking down other warriors : ( . (good fights too).

Well I think that with Sword #2 being a cool gap closer with low cooldown and #3 being a viable Cripple skill they can’t outrun you ( I think, haven’t done enough testing though).

To be honest, that’s what Axe #5 was supposed to be (Whirling Axe). Long cooldown, fully mobile, full AoE. Except the damage is terrible.

You’re right but it’s your off hand weapon’s skill, I suppose off hands are mainly for secondary hits/utilites so it seems logical to be like that. GS #2 however is your main damage skill from your only weapon, so more damage (not as much as it is now maybe) would be expected.

Well 1-handers are a little bit like “Stick and Move” weapons or at least that’s the idea behind them I think. I mean, you know, sting the target, apply some bleeds (with the sword), a couple of hits, step back and let the bleed take it’s toll, enter the fight again, do the same. It’s like boxing with quick jabs, a bit of evading, sting again and always keep on the move. I dont think the idea is to constantly stay on top of your target, probably more to pace your self (and skills) through the fight and let the conditions take their toll.

Thanatos.5102

No, it provides yet another option for landing that skill. Do you know who else likes AoE immobilizes? Everyone with AoE. Run with a group and use Flurry combined with other AoEs and you will have friends for life.

Not every skill needs to be 100% reliable – just because the skill has such a short cooldown doesn’t mean that it should be always usable, always reliable, all of the time. The short cooldown is there SO you can make mistakes and/or deal with people who manage to avoid it.

It’s also devastating in PvE (again, brain required if mobs are moving).

Good point, I see what you mean there with the quick reuse and it’s actually a valid idea. However, I would prefer a lower damage/more reliable/larger cool down skill. But that’s how I would do it if I was an AN dev, that doesn’t mean that the way you propose is not good enough, I am just discussing possible enhancement. Thanks Sami for contributing.

Warrior isnt underpowered, you are just playing it wrong. Warrior, ele, and thief are about the only 3 classes in this game who can roll full glass cannon and dominate a match. I dominate on my rifle warrior all the time, people love getting popped for 10k from range.

So let’s suppose I am playing it wrong and that’s why I fail while playing it. However it seems that the rest of the community is also not picking a Warrior as often as other classes, are they too playing it wrong? Is everyone playing it wrong, thus failing when selecting it thus resulting in them not selecting Warrior at all for sPvP?
On a second note, I am sorry but a long range rifle shooter was not what I had in mind when I selected Warrior, I suppose that noone has that image of gameplay in his mind when rolling Warrior either. If people tend to select a long range rifle shooter as the best viable build on a Warrior then I think there’s an issue here.

Thanatos.5102

Just wanna add a simple observation here. I see lots of replies on Warriors posts that say “lol, you don’t know how to play, L2P” slamming people complaining about the warrior being either under-powered or other classes/professions being overpowered in comparison (actually same thing: imbalance between different but yet supposed-to-be-equal professions).

I can suppose that I can’t play a Warrior at its fullest extent, maybe other guys dont know how to play it either, maybe lots of guys are also noobs. But when almost noone plays the class in competitive games (including the noobs but also the so called “pros”) then that’s an issue. These guys are supposed to search every last detail and take advantage of any kind of options they have in their arsenal, if they totally exclude a specific class from their choices then there’s something wrong with it.

The way I see it is that if your targeted audience (gamers) rejects your product (Warrior class) on its entirety then the problem lies with the product, not the audience. To quote a common phrase in my line of work in real life “the market is never wrong, if you fail to understand it its your fault, not the market’s” (I am a professional Forex trader thus the “market” is the Foreign Exchange Currency market).

My point exactly, to get it right you need to use 2 utility skills (out of the 3 we have) and still there’s a high propability of the target evading it with a simple dodge. Now I dont imply that the target shouldn’t be able to evade it, on the contrary, I insist however that it should probably be far easier to fully land, even at reduced damage.

Guys, the point here is that this skill, as with any other skill, is that it should be attractive for the gamer to use it. A skill that will require 2 pre-skills for setting it up OR will only half-land is no fun to use. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that you should easily land the highest damage skill of the character and come to a point that everyone is just spamming it. I am thinking that it should be far easier to fully land with any necessary change (mobile at 50% speed/replace the current F1 skill with an Adrenaline short-root skill or w/e else?) and if the community feels that a fully landing 100B is too much then simply nerf the damage output. You gain a FULLY functional and usable skill and you loose some of it’s mighty damage. Personally, I think that’s a good deal.
On a last note, the weapon changing mechanic is supposed to offer versatility to the character, either melee vs. range or defensive vs. attacking weapon sets. It’s not supposed to work as a prerequisite to land 1 kitten skill, even if it’s the mighty 100B. That simply erases versatility and creates a narrow path to a boring and repetitive gameplay.

Both answers are excellent replies and I suppose that maybe my idea for an F1 4-secs root might be over the top. I suppose then, for the sake of over all mobility of the char, the best solution might be a mobile skill at 50% speed and maybe a small reduction in damage to compensate. Thus a character that dodges will be able to evade the skill (as it should) but on the same time a simple 2-steps back step by the target will not force me to break the channeling and waste the whole skill.
My original idea was to try to propose a solution that will take care of both Warrior’s known issues with the GS build at the same time: poor Adrenaline skill and self-rooting GS 2 skill, but I might went over the top.

And Angriff you’re right, my post’s title selection was rather poor

Just to clarify things here, I am not proposing that the 100B becomes a moving skill, that’s what Madtavish proposed (and actually at 50% speed) and I think it might be a good idea, with a reduced damage maybe to compensate.
What I said is that I would like to have the same weapon (whose skill requires me to sit stationary to channel it) give me an option to immobilize the target as well, to compensate for the fact that it self-roots me. This can be done of course with a utility skill but I just feel that since the weapon itself puts me in a disadvantage, the same weapon itself should offer me the option to compensate it by putting my target in the same rough spot, immobilized that is.
This seems fair to me, however I might be wrong. That’s why I am here, to discuss it, nothing wrong with that, it actually gives food for thought for everyone. Thanks again to everyone taking the time to share their views.

Many interesting points and thank you all for contributing. A point that I would like to make and you are welcome to correct me ( I am not claiming it to be self-evident) is that applying a stationary skill to a target that is free to move (not dodge, simply backstep a bit) is simply risking to hit someone that has EVERY chance to evade it unless he’s asleep or afk. What’s the point to try to 100B a person in combat that, in case he’s alive and awake, will be 100% able to avoid it? Given that notion, that’s why I personally don’t like the way the skill works and I think it becomes useless 90% of the time.

1.) 100b will never be a mobile skill. That would be the dumbest change ever. Why not ask for the 100b button to just automatically kill everything around you as well? GS is already the most mobile warrior weapon. Ranged cripple, and 2 dash/gap closers…….. Go play an axe warrior and then come back and complain to me about mobility.

Yes but you would be moving at REDUCED speed, not increasing, and that infact hinders your mobility.
Second I proposed a damage REDUCTION on HB. I wasn’t ever asking for op kill-all button, so please don’t act like I or OP did.

I think that adding some kind of mobility to the 100B might be a nice change, I proposed a different kind of solution because I thought that AN would have thought and rejected it for some reason. However, the thing is simple for me: a self-rooting 100B is useless unless the target is either stunned or immobilized. So either give the Warrior a way to root the target for a couple of secs (is it OP? there are stun-breaking skills you know) or make it more mobile. And frankly I dont get it why a root followed by a 100B is insta-kill since there are stunbreakers… That’s the ideal risk-reward option: risk to root the target and for him to break it and render you follow-up 100B useless or succeed in rooting him and your 100B to be a successfull (not insta-kill) skill.

To comment by saying “you just want to oblitarate everything” migh be your opinion and I respect it 100%, you’re free to express it of course but I think that it’s just not productive.

To sum up my points, I don’t ask or need for a “1 skill=100% kill chance” button, I just discuss the fact that the main damage skill of a mainly damage dealing oriented character should be usefull. If not, then what’s the point in having it?

It’s not a “high risk-high reward skill” Recently, if you don’t use it (since you know that you’ll only land 1-2 out of the 8 hits it does) how would you do any damage? With auto-attacks? If yes, then take it out and put something else there that would be usefull, not necessarily powerfull, but something worth having.

Addressing the Warrior's "Hundred Blades" immobility issue: a proposal

Hello guys, this is my first attempt to collaborate to the forum’s discussions. Let me fisrt take the time and congratulate everybody for a vibrant community, I am a 10-years veteran in MMOs, having played almost anything that has come out all these years. This is the first time that I find such a mature and welcoming community where people discuss their concerns aroung their game and there’s actually a chance that the developers will take all these suggestions under concideration for future updates (at least that’s the word on the street about AN’s dev team, I hope they live up to their reputation).

Coming to my point, after leveling my Warrior I will briefly describe my conserns aroung the known issue with GS lack of mobility. Given the usual GS build the main damage skill when using a GS is the 100B skill. GS 1 is a very nice opener, especially with the vulnerability it applies, GS 3 is also nice for some mobility + dmg but not to a single target since you’ll only land a couple of hits as the skill is mobile, GS 4 is perfect for some crippling when chasing and GS 5 is also very nice as a gap closer (even if the hit doesn’t always land but that’s another thing). On the same time the Adrenaline skill is a medium damage skill that however is not worth executing when you take into concideration the usage of Adrenaline for +12% damage (Berserker’s Power) and extra heal amount (Healing Surge) etc etc. and only gives you +20% crit chance which we usually get from “Great Justice” or “Signet of Rage”.

So we come to the conclusion that GS 2 aka 100B is the main source of damage when using a GS BUT is requires a Warrior to stand still (!!) while his target remains mobile – 100B can be avoided by simply stepping back 2 steps, not even dodging is required. This cannot be acceptable for a mellee fighter. Take into concideration here that the various Traits (Slashing Power & Forceful Greatsword) make the GS the no.1 weapon choice for a Warrior.

Now to address that our Warriors are improvising using:
a) Bolas and then a gap closer and then 100B (takes too much time to execute from the small amount of time that Bolas lasts, Time on Target is minimal)
b) Bull’s Charge and then 100B (too much time again is wasted with the animation of BC and the knock down lasts even less than the Bolas so again the Time on Target is minimal)
c) Flurry from a secondary set with a Sword and a weapon change, which is actually a very interesting choice but requires the secondary set to be a Sword/something (not bad as a choice however since it provides interesting mobility and defence capabilites along with a shield or a mace).

From all these 3 choices I personally prefer the 3rd choice for an obvious reason: more Time on Target from Flurry’s immobilize, more channeled damage from 100B which – I say again – is the main damage skill of the GS.

So problem solved right? No, since you need to take a lot of steps to make 1 simple thing to happen: keep a target at bay for the amount of time is takes to apply 1 skill’s full damage. One proposed change? Make 100B a mobile skill, for some reason AN felt that it should not be as such. A second proposal? Read below.

My proposal, and I hope that someone from AN even takes a look at it is very simple: exchange the Adrenaline skills between GS and Sword. I propose that the Flurry skill is added to the GS weapon skills, call it whatever you want, the animation/logic could be an uppercut hit with the GS’s hand grip that will stun/immobilize the target for 4 secs as Flurry does (bleeds are not required here thus should be ommited). By using it you give up the so much wanted Adrenaline thus lowering the damage you deliver BUT you gain a very much needed condition for a successful 100B: a stationary target !

On the same time giving the Sword’s build the Arcing Slice Adrenaline skill you gain a much appreciated higher critical chance while using a weapon that does less damage than the 2-handed ones thus would need a higher critical landing chance to compensate. Should you feel that it is fair, you could even add a Bleed condition too, AN would have to decide whether this is needed or not as to better balance the damage output.

I am sorry for the long post, I know many of you might not read it but I feel there are some intesting points in there that you would like to discuss. Let me know what you think and again I hope that AN would cherish the time and effort we take into debating this game and take these suggestions at least under consideration. After all we are using our energy to enhance their product, which will mean more success to them (and to be fair, a better game experience to us of course).
