I had same issue as Eliot Lee, and problem was caused by Windows Update memory leak. Here’s link to post that you can determine if that causing problem and how to solve it.

Please read complete text before you take any action!

Yay, finally i found and fixed my issue and bring back game to normal after slow/hitching/suttering/long loading screens problems

First, as we see, problem with game starts at mid July, same time(after I searched this days) as Windows 7 started to have huge memory leaks according to Internet. So now this fixed game for me:

1. Open Task Manager and look if one of svchost process is taking too much memory and cpu consumption.(maybe need to click “show processes from all users” to see that)

2. If does, in Services tab, find Windows Update service and go right-click on it, then stop. After that, back on Process tab and see if svchost process is reduced memory and cpu consumption. If yes, start Guild Wars 2 and see how games reacts now.

3. If game is now working properly, there are 2 solutions to fix this for good:

a) Start Resources, find Windows Update service, right-click on it and go Properties. Then at Startup type choose Disable. That will from that point disable Windows Update for future. (I’m not recommending to disable WU for good).

b) Go on MS Support site and find this 3 updates: KB3102810, KB3135445, KB3138612. Download them, and install. (after each install, restart pc). Those are 3 patches for svchost memory consumption and cpu usage, and also fix Windows Update program(’cause who have problem with svchost also have problem with Windows Update).

Personaly I went on b solution, and game are now smooth and fast as it was.

I hope that this will help for others.

Pozdrav

P.S. This also resolved my lag problem

P.S.S. I run 64bit game on Win7 SP1 64bit with 4GB ram and have 26-36 fps

Same happends to me, almost copy/paste of your problem… First client stuck on run for some time, then loading is going and going…(and its repeating every time) Tried with -repair but nothing changed… Sended 2 crash reports to ANet… I hope that someone will see ours problem and help us to solve it. I love this game but this is just disappointing…
