+1 for ZeniMax/Elder Scrolls Online

I would never imagine that ANY game would ever go about the megaserver concept other then ESO (which I am currently playing).

Why are Megaservers EVIL?

1. Trying to find people is impossible: This concept is difficult to understand until you have played a game with a Megaserver alas… Is there some magic math formula to find people? Maybe. But without ensuring that the same players are on the same server finding people becomes natually impossible without a /who command. What if you want to find a “casual friend”? Perhaps someone you talked to before but not a formal /friend just some intersting poster on /map. GL with that.

2. Say Goodbye to Roleplaying right now… assuming there is any in GW2. Being mixed around will just destroy the nature of a single “RP” server/realm. Want to find a random RP session simply by walking around Divinity’s Reach? Good Luck with that.

3. Player Population: Sometime you want to play on a lower population server and NOT have 1235423047810748 players running around. A “megaserver” means that you will always have minions running around whether or not you want it.

4. Dynamic Events: Now they claim they have a solution to this problem but if the server you on will be random I don’t see how this problem can be avoided. I will wait and see ArenaNet’s response on the matter.

5. Destruction of Server “Loyality”: With a single server there are no longer server loyalties. In fact now “home worlds” are simply WvW tools only and have no other use.

6. Connection Issues: Megaservers are natually not as stable as normal servers. Disconnecting or lag while zoning is far more common as experienced in ESO or with WoW’s “Cross Realm Zone” mechanics. Whether GW’s system would be stable or not is undefined.

7. Unable to play with Friends: What happens if your friends are split up on different “shards” or otherwise worlds? Trying to get all of you on the same server is a nightmare. For example you have 2 parties of players. Because they are not the “same party” it is possible that you will be placed on different zones. Trying to “sync up” players on a server now requires some brain power.

Look I probably could go on and on but you get the point. As a player of ESO I know that Megaserver concept is EVIL and causes more problems. Why am I playing ESO? PvP pure and simple (which btw isn’t a megaserver). If ArenaNet wants to copy somthing from ESO then copy the shear size of ESO’s PvP map which as at least 4x the size of Eternal Battlegrounds with epic large scale combat. Whatever you do copy ESO’s megaserver.

I know Player Population is an issue… nevertheless the solution to this problem is to CLOSE DOWN SERVERS. IDK why video game companies (such as Blizzard/WoW) think doing this == /doom but it doesn’t. GW2 has gamewide name reservation so this wouldnt’ even be that hard either.

Mates: I simply don’t want the “social experience” of GW2 to be ruined like ESO’s is. This Megaserver is simply Evil. Alas no matter: yet another “World Domination experiement” of ArenaNet…

Why was the Antitoxin Meter faked?

The Master.2893

Because this is ArenaNet and they try to “fake player input” values in order to give a false sense of player-directed outcomes?…

For the Record… this isn’t the first time this happened. With the “Flame and Frost” story release the destruction of the final event had this same timer.

"The Dead End" Bar Needs to Serve Something

in Living World

Posted by: The Master.2893

The Master.2893

…whats the point of having a super awesome bar location (for roleplay purposes or otherwise) if the bartender doesn’t serve anything? Furthermore whats behind all the doors? Its like this place just got left behind after “Dragon Bash” even though its characters it introduced are all still running ’round

On another note… when is ArenaNet gonna have “sit animation” for chairs and the like? Very sad that everyone, NPC or player, has to stand “next to the chair” as opposed to “in the chair”.

If this game is to have a Living Story then it needs to feel “living”… even if such small changes do not affect gameplay. These and many more “minor visuals” need to be addressed by ArenaNet.

I apologize if someone above already posted this… however this game was specifically designed to “not have the traditional MMORPG ‘holy trinity’ of tank, dps, and healer”.

So they made it so that nobody could heal, or even pure tank for that matter. And everyone had DPS options.

IF they buffed healing, which is a fair contention, they would “break their pledge to not have a holy trinity”.

How is GW2 doing financially?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Master.2893

The Quarterly report from NcSoft, which is a publicly held company, shows that Guild Wars 2 is doing fine.

“Fine” is an understatement:)

If their reports are even close to accurate then GW2 is bailing out the rest of the company right not. NCSOFT without GW2 would be losing money otherwise.

Which is good for us at least…

bad decisions?

Well to be fair the Scarlet concept is actually interesting versus more killing of dragons.

However it is true that all of the following releases feel “disconnected” from each other and somewhat random. Because Anet doesn’t preview content to be in the future it is hard to say now whether there is a “direction” or not.

…ArenaNet found a way (just like “life” did in “Jurassic Park”) to defeat the crushing forces of MMORPG’s and also the shear force that is WoW.

It is indeed amazing… even I have had doubts. Hopefully NCSOFT will figure out that their current MMORPG “Investment” Wildstar is a Failed Project and thus once again restore full funding levels to advance GW2 at a fast rate of speed and with the epic scale of content only matched by WoW. NCSOFT simply has too many MMORPG’s out there to mangage anyone of them to a scale that is Warcraft.

No matter: I look forward to spending some “quality time” with the ArenaNet staff in the Seattle event this weekend…

Why has female running been changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Master.2893

The Master.2893

Call me crazy, but the old female running animation reminded me more of a adventurous disney princess running in a dress, than a mighty & armored warrior heroine.

The “new” animation is better if only because it removes the (what some posters in this thread call) ""feminine"" flailing arms.

It’s a shame that it introduces clipping errors though.

Calling you crazy. Not all of use play Heavy armor classes:) Light Armor classes should have more movement because we don’t have massive armor weight to deal with.

Ahhh…. man ALMOST, ALMOST I was with you…

Since I am against making everything in the gem store in the first place; forcing us to pay for something that should be given as core gameplay is MOST DOOMULOUSNESS!

But to the effect if such an option otherwise existed would be effective. No matter: I assume the degree of difficulty of “making a UI to this effect” would be “too hard for ArenaNet”. I mean… one thing for just human females?:)

The solution? Revert to launch animation and stop messin’ with the game!

...Hopefully not another Temporary Dungeon [merged]

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: The Master.2893

The Master.2893

Edit: With the patch released it is clear this will be Temporary content…

The “story instance” at the end is indeed just another short-term dungeon like the “Funhouse” was. This post addresses the concept that the “tower”, dunegon or not, and its content will be shortly removed weeks following the release.

If the dungeon is to be as promised then there is no way it can be properly enjoyed in only a 2-week window. Maybe not even 4 weeks. I know some of you like to rush through front to back and could care less about the “enjoying the visuals”; nonetheless with every living story patch released, a ticking clock exists counting down the time until the destruction of the release.

Look: Dungeons are useless and forgetable unless you can explore them slowly. This cannot be done in a short time no matter how hard you try. Making temporary dungeons only further serves to make this game more “unenjoyable” and defeats the intent of a “Living Story”. Scarlet doesn’t have to be defeated in 2-week time windows. The world won’t come to an end if it takes longer else Scarlet would have destroyed everything by now.

No matter…

Good call on this one btw. What is worse is that this change is a “stealth change”. If ArenaNet wishes to do something then that is what patch notes are there: It shows once again Anet cannot be trusted…

Discontinued Wars

in Living World

Posted by: The Master.2893

The Master.2893

A Few Points…

1. Holiday content is supposed to be short term. Else it would have no meaning if it was around all year long.

2. Your point that previous releases are not open past their release is valid. The problem with the “Living Story” is that the content ends up being short-lived. Imagine if WoW’s expansions “went away” after the new one was released. A small game it would be indeed.

3. If you have only been here for a month or so it might be too soon to understand ArenaNet’s non-traditional strategy. However they favor small changes on a theme of a bigger story. The goal is to get players to focus on the “real-time” of the event; and during the Scarlet Invasion release this effect was most effective. For new players this does leave you only to “read about the past on wiki”.

In either situation the “wars” that gives this game its name (Guild Wars) has indeed thus been “discontinued”. This thread thus is vaild in its nature.
