If you renamed anything it wont work. I manually deleted every folder and downloading the way it is intended and it finally working. Gave me the option to install where I want without all the cluster mess when you renamed the Gw2setup.exe
When I had OEM 2-$400 laptops before my build I done the following
- Turn the eye candy off. (classic version)
- Disable everything including firewall (useless if you’re just gaming)
- Turn the mouse pointer to standard large
- run windows updates
- Try to run updates for sound/graphics ect from vendors before using windows version
- Run the game in window mode
- Turn off shadows/view … play with the settings sometimes can have some high settings
- Turn your power setting to Performance
- If you don’t have a stand place something under the top lip to lift it up some so the heat can escape better then just having it flat on the desk ( make sure what ever it is it’s not covering the vents.
Google up some searches for your OEM branded pc/bios and find some tweaks to get some lockable performance unlocked.

Hello!
Exactly the same happened with me tonight, so I looked it up on the forum here, and I found this solution, which happened to work for me:1) Create a folder for a game
2) Put a Gw2Setup.exe in it
3) Change its name to Gw2.exe
4) Run
In my case it begun downloading files in current directory…I hope this works for you too!
Enjoy the new problems doing it this way.
Got this on the 8th. And was playing few days before this patch
The FPS drop seems to be a problem with this patch and is probably a bug. If that’s why you are asking for a refund, you might want to wait as there are a lot of complaints about it and ANet is undoubtably looking into it.
Just not the massive fps drop but also I can’t even download the game. I been trying since early afternoon yesterday through out the night and today. Now I take this to their social networking pages and they just keep deleting my comments how things are not working. I did try out the work around renaming the setup to .exe but that causes more problems with the programs I run that are not detecting I have it running. Since this route does not install in programs only out of a folder. Also have not seen a update from a tech or dev what is going on.

Can we have an eta about the fix? Because this wait is really annoying.
Tried asking that in their social networking pages along with a screen shot (I’ll post mine)… both got deleted. I take it they don’t want their sponsors know they messed things up with this patch.
Guild Wars 2 replied to your comment on their post.

Looks like there’s a forum thread going about it, then, so you’re good! Our PAX East sponsors can’t really help here on Facebook any further than that.
Was hoping for a number not submit a ticket and wait several days for a response.
Can’t seem to find this info if there is a # to contact for a refund for a unplayable product?
- Was purchased on this site.
- Yes I saved the GW2setup.exe and changed it to Gw2.exe, I did log in but.. running at 20 – below fps?? I played prior to patch which was 140+fps just did a fresh install on kitten so this is why a re-install happened.
– system build is less then a week old, yes I have all current drivers from vendor sites (non from windows). Windows 8.1 is fully updated
i7-4790k 4.8 oc – Asus ROG maximus VII Formula – H100i cooler (steady at 34c 38c on heavy load) Asus ROG Mars 760 (SLi) 16GB GSkill 1866 rm (xmp / oc)
No new news from the tech ect.. what is going on is not great customer service. Posted this on a GW2 post on facebook but it was an kitten of a reply back.
- I will not make a new folder/ rename the setup to Gw2.exe – doing so have no listing in my programs and if a fix is needed have to enable hidden folders delete the crap myself and GPUtweak, xsplit can’t see if I am playing ect..
I just found this on another forum post, and it actually worked for me!
’ve had this problem too.
I belive because of something incompatabile with the select_directory window…
Odd solution:
1) create a folder for a game
2) put a Gw2Setup.exe in it
3) change its name to Gw2.exe
4) run
in my case it begun downloading files in current directory…
(Very simple! I just changed the name of Gw2Setup.exe by right-clicking and renaming it to Gw2.exe and after i tried again i went straight to the download.)ARE YOU A GOD?!!?!?
But seriously thank you so much
I did this way last night but still causes problems.. Also you do it this way you cant uninstall the game. Not even listed in programs. You would have to get into hidden files manually delete everything. This way should be avoided..
