I’d imagine it could still be internet related. While I’ve loaded zones quickly, when the servers were busy after a patch, I could see a noticable difference from the zone image appearing for preloading and my zone stats appearing almost instantly to a several second delay. If you’re seeing the zone image for awhile but don’t see your PoI, Vistas, etc. icons appear soon after, it could be just a delay in communicating to the server.

There are pretty important differences in CPU implementation, TheRealLink

Been a LONG time since I studied that area, and it’s so sophisticated now. But I recall that they used to optimize execution in various ways. They can reorder instructions for efficiency. They have various ways of getting data from memory into the CPU cache and such which effects performance. They have these “pipelines” which try to increase efficiency. Anyway, lame explanation, but it’s not simply about instruction sets.

Oh true. Wasn’t saying it was purely that as tons of people are setting lackluster performance given the full range of systems on this thread. I certainly don’t pretend to know anything about internal thread optimizations but just saying it seems to be hit or miss (or is that mostly miss) for people. If this thread has such the count it does, I’m curious how many hundreds of thousands are playing the game since I’d imagine most users aren’t on the forums until they need some help.

More good insight here. Again while I’m playing fine (60 or so FPS) most of the time, there is that camera stuttering on turns and a couple areas where FPS does dip randomly it seems.

Now the odd thing is that while my frequency isn’t as high as others’ here, I’m having no problems pushing 30-40 FPS in WvW (GTX 680). Granted the biggest battle I’ve seen is probably a 25v25 or 30v30 but it runs acceptable enough on my Xeons.

All chips should process similar instructions but if it was a case of that, we’d see solely AMD or solely Intel people claim that it’s an optimization issue. Here, we see both.

Getting a solid 70-99% GPU use now finally, though my CPU usage is barely touched. Would have to look at a WvW fight to see what it’d pull there, though. Still running 306.23 drivers for what it’s worth.

Well, just as a quick update, I was only realizing my GPU-usage was in the 50s-60s% or so as I was trying to record which of coure eats up a lot of thoroughput. Was just playing tonight in Brisban Wildlands and all during the outdoors areas, my normal GPU monitor was instead showing 70-95%. Skrittsburgh and Venlin Vale for example, both put me in the upper 90s to 99% so it’s good that the GPU is being fully utilized.

I’m still going to have to test out WvW and larger events to see how things go though.

Of course the FPS issues are that people seem to be having the opposite issue. I’d still think I’d need a higher frequency to offest areas like Lion’s Arch or such. Haven’t tried Black Citadel or other higher areas yet to report on.

That content has been temporarily disabled.

I also just discovered one of these last night myself. Caledari area to the right of the Pale Tree warp during a heart quest having you kill Risen Undead. If I revive an NPC player, he/she then mutates into a corrupted grub. Upon killing any of such monster, I also see the warning come across the screen. Doesn’t seem to affect the game – just that monster.

1. Game is CPU-bound
2. Kepler / 306.xx drivers (or the game) are not yet fully optimized

If it was CPU bound, people wouldn’t consistently be reporting that their CPUs are being underutilized. CPU usages has been reported at anywhere from 10%-60%. There’s a lot of CPU that’s not being used at all.

Same goes for GPU across the board.

There are some definite software optimization issues causing some problems here.

There is no specific hardware that has the issue. It’s been reported on NVIDIA & AMD cards of all kinds, Phenom 2’s, i5’s, i7’s, AMD-FX, of all different speeds.

Well, what i think I meant is that since my GPU isn’t 90+%, it’s relying on the CPU at that point. Since my CPU isn’t near 100% (and with my system there’s no way a game is going to max my cores), maybe it’s better to call it an under-utilization as you said rather than being bound per se. I’ve yet to test this game at other CPU frequencies but I’m saying CPU-bound only because of resolution, not frequency.

Maybe I’m mistaken on my terms but yes, something is definitely amiss and not optimized.

Going to bump this. GTX 680 here and while I hold 60+ most of the time, harder areas put me in the 40s (not counting Bandit Cave). Finally just did some video testing with Precision and my GPU is solidly sitting at about 50% utilization at 1600×1200 all settings on High or Ultra. I’d have to try a WvW and see if FPS plummets.

Running Xeons at 3.6. I can’t go much higher due to the board I have.

Even at 1920×1200 at the top of Divinity’s Reach near the Queen’s Court garden area, I only lost 2-3 FPS despite a higher res change. This either means:

1. Game is CPU-bound
2. Kepler / 306.xx drivers (or the game) are not yet fully optimized

If people who have good I7s in the mid to upper 4Ghz’ have problems and lots of 680/690 concerns, then I think I’d be correct.

Any other game (BF3, WoW, Metro 2033, Crysis 2 etc.) except this runs nearly flawlessly on my system.

Edit 1. Nothing regarding CPU heat is bugging me. System is idling at upper 20s to low 30s and some cores are barely peaking 40 when in the Pale Tree. No overheating issue here.

Yep. Defrag the drive or swap to a 7200 RPM HDD or pick up an SSD are about the only things you can do. Otherwise I’ve had my game seemingly get stuck on loading screens rarely when the game servers have been very busy.

Yeah will echo shadows specifically. In the Sylvani areas especially, I’ve noticed a hit of 10 or more FPS just from going from High to Ultra on my 680. But it could just be that my CPU is limiting me which I’m pretty sure it is.

Been having this issue at what seems to be by far the most difficult forum to ever register for. If you can get to the EULA and check the box and accept, it might spit the authentication error or another Error 42 at you.

After trying numerous things, I finally got it to work by closing all IE tabs except this one (IE9 x64). Even if you see the error, on the top right it will show you logged in. Just click anything else to go to the main forums and post

Same for me, though it’s been like that since day one since I never was in the Beta or played GW1. Something I’ve found though is that High to Ultra shadows significantly impacts framerate. Lower it a notch if you must. But I’ll agree with the same, Bandit Hideout is crazy. Mostly 60 everywhere else and 25-40 in the cave.
