Elaborate if you wouldn’t mind

What things specifically do you love about the class. I’m a returning player eyeing my thief and seeing posts like this gets me stoked.

I haven’t played in quite some time and I’m coming back to give my thief a go.

He’s only level 20 so I have a lot to learn but I had a few questions:

1. Are thieves a viable PVE & World Encounter option for melee or do you have to resort to shortbow?

2. Any suggested threads to read up on for leveling, gear, spec advice?

3. Are thieves at least middle tier in PvP? I don’t want an OP class but I don’t want to return to a completely broken one for my return experience either

4. What is your favorite combo/trick/thing you do with your thief that makes you enjoy them that much more?

My personal opinion – if you don’t enjoy kiting, do not play elementalist.

The class is fairly broken at the moment compared to most others – too low damage to make up for the squishy factor.

Knowing what I know now, I’d probably have gone either necro or mesmer at release – but alas I just like the whole elementalist vibe too much to switch now.

So if you don’t have that innate love for the elementalist, you won’t like it in the long run.

My 2 cents.

So why Necro over Ele out of curiosity? I’ve heard of pet issues with it. Thanks much!

I don’t mind kiting, I just don’t want that to be the expected playstyle of a melee class. If i’m going to kite I want to play a ranged class where that’s expected.

I’m looking to transition to a caster as I’m not a fan of how much kiting/ranged the melee classes require. I want to try something new as well and casters in mmo’s are a new thing to me

I’m only interested in PVE and i’m curious whether to roll with this class or a Necro. Mesmer doesn’t interest me, only these two.

Any feedback or suggestions regarding either classes would be much appreciated as this is a new space for me and I want to roll something that is going to be fun and viable in PVE, regardless of its state in PVP
