BUMP – Was there ever any resolution to this? Just tried to buy on my new laptop, and no matter which browser I have set as default, or admin mode, it just WILL NOT launch a new browser window or tab, so I can’t buy Gems via paypal or use the /wiki command.

IMO, GW2 not RP friendly

How about….

1: Chat box control please? /emote is DARK GREY for frak’s sake. Let us change colors.
2: Make /block actually block emotes, so we can control spam.
3: Make /say and /emote ranges actually make sense.
4: Give us real user-controlled culling sliders, so we don’t have people vanishing in the middle of big rp gatherings
5: Chat-logging functionality would be nice (also useful for combat logging, i guess)
6: User Channels for communities
7: Housing and/or more interactive spaces in towns.
8: Sitting poses that actually work on….you know, chairs.

Laptop cooling pad

Not sure about the cooling on your laptop. I’ve got a metal-bodied one where the case is part of the cooling, so it definitely helps me. If nothing else, a pad can’t HURT. XD Highly recommend this or similar. http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Massive23-Notebook-Oversized-CLN0015/dp/B003ZUXXWO

Once again, someone needs to point out. THERE IS NO NATIVE MAC VERSION. It’s a wine wrapper. A slick one, but still… Stop saying ’there’s a mac version, so gief linux’. It’s the same bloody option for you. A native version for either is WAY down the line, judging by the core engine issues they’re having with the Win version still. So…. be hopeful, but extremely patient.

Culling and Servers and Response?

Anet, sort your code out RIGHT NOW. These massive un-instanced events are not working. When your basic combat response breaks down because the server/client connection can’t handle it, it’s a sign that something is very VERY wrong.

Bizarre Name Restriction

Any particular reason we should sort out names for every possible language? That’s just silly. Bite, Verge? If we start removing perfectly valid english words because some french person might be offended….or vice versa….

Why oh why do people ever leave shadows on? It’s the VERY LAST thing you want to bump up, since it’s nearly universally a framerate killer.

Really?

Technically, there /still/ isn’t an OSX client. There’s a Windows client with a Translation Layer wrapper. XD

Which MacBook to run GW2?

A bit of consumer advice when it comes to laptops. Buy ALL the CPU and GPU you can afford, and then some. Since laptops aren’t as upgradable, the more you spend now, the more life you get out of it. Go with the 15" MBP, the 13" are Macbook Not-Pros. Avoid Retina just yet, the pixel-doubling isn’t quite worth the price/performance yet. I’ve been running in Bootcamp on my 2008 15", and getting 30-40fps or so, but only because I picked the better specs back then.

Why are min. specs higher on Mac than on PC?

Technically the Mac environment is less stringent on the hardware and more “powerful” than Windows

Technically, this is not correct

The answer to your question is that the GW2 Mac client is a Cider-based Windows port, which means it relies on windows/directx emulation. So there will be performance loss here. Besides, Apple graphics drivers are less optimised than their Windows counterparts, so you need faster hardware to offset this.

I am happy to have a Mac version but I think I will still use the Windows one. Until a native Mac version comes out.

This, essentially. This build isn’t a native OSX client. It’s a Translation Layer one, so you’re running another process on top of the game. Hence the spec difference.
