Keg Master doesn’t seem to be awarding.
Please don’t infract me for being frivolous and trash it again. I do not see any category in-game for reporting achievement bugs. It may be frivolous to you but not me, as you can see I played way to much of it…even though it’s still broken by far tossing and instant passing even while knocked down.

Check out that guide. Third sentence. Hell the first three paragraphs.
I’m telling you, I’m a look at history and learn from it type of person. This has all already been seen before in other games. Most notably Diablo 3 which is even very recent. I played it. I know the first thing I did there to was set up my Wizard with Magic and Gold Find. They eventually changed it to where the group shared Magic Find. So if someone had full Magic Find gear it would be split between everyone else in the party. Most didn’t like this, and you know what it encouraged? Players avoiding grouping.
Eventually they introduced Nepahelm Valor.
“Nephalem Valor is one of the major new systems in Diablo III and it kicks in at level 60. The philosophy stated by Blizzard is as follows: Rare and Champion packs already have great loot on them. By killing a Rare or Champion pack, not only do you get their loot, but you’ll also receive a buff granting you increased magic find and gold find. However, if you change a skill, skill rune, passive, or leave the game, the buff disappears. As an extra reward, if you kill a boss while this buff is active, you’ll receive extra loot drops from that boss.
The exact amount of magic find and gold find provided by the buff is 15%. It can stack up to 5 times (to a total of 75%) and will last 30 minutes. The duration can be refreshed by killing additional elite packs, but the buff will not grow to more than 5 stacks.
This system was implemented to encourage players to stick with a skill build of their choice, select an area of the game they enjoy, and sweep it for elite and champion packs on their way to a boss (the buff is not refreshed when killing a rare – violet – enemy), finishing off a run with a boss that’ll be worth killing. If you wanted a shorter play session you could be done at that point, but if you have more time, the path of least resistance would ideally be to stay in the same game and make your way towards the next boss."
A system similar to this would work well here I believe. It might also encourage people to complete events rather than event hopping which is actually more profitable now. As is I often bypass Veteran or higher mobs as their is less incentive to waste time killing them than just farming easier mobs for more loot. Also this would discourage botters whom wait around farming an event as the buff would simply wear off or at least let players “catch up” by normally playing and not just farming in the same spot forever getting loot.
I just don’t understand when there is a problem, a poorly designed system, that has already had a solution somewhere else that has solved it, and it could be implemented here with a variety of benefits why not explore it. Magic Find is a terrible system, that is why it was decried for being put in Diablo 3, changed and reiterated many times, and being decried here. Ok, I"m done.

I tried the keg brawl for the first time today, and was instantly hooked.. It’s sooooo fun! But yes, for the life of me I couldn’t figgure out how other people were tossing the keg so far.. very frustrating. Nothing I did on the practice field accomplished it, so I resorted to looking it up. Yuck. Please fix this issue, it makes it not so fun. Next to impossible to stop the guys who do it once they have the keg, and intercepting/causing fumbles is where the fun is at!
Plus, I use a laptop with touchpad, and moving the camera at will is pretty darn tough. Maybe if I had a chance to stand there for 5 seconds to move it up… But seriously, it’s much funner using the skills as they were intended.
I keep replying every other day or so to keep this up there but sadly it doesn’t seem many have even tried Keg Brawl. I’m about 20 wins away from the Keg Master title so that tells you how much I’ve played Keg Brawl…too much.
Before this game shipped I remember reading about all the mini-games they planned to have, bar brawling as well, etc. Now it’s over a month released and the one they do have is still ruined by a few mechanics that they could easily fix. Which their 10/1 changes only made worse by still allowing far throwing but also giving everyone an instant pass that you can even use when knocked down. Basically if you have a couple decent players who know how to use the pass it’s game over and you’ll never get any fumbles/recoveries/interceptions.
I’m also on Rall and reported them all two days ago when I was there helping a friend level. I went back to see after reading this and certainly enough the same ones were there but they also seemed to have multiplied. Maybe I should stop reporting them it only seems to make them spread!
MF for consumables only is equally bad, as it promotes ditching any other consumable in favour MF ones. Removing MF from all items and consumables BUT cash shop boosters encourages “pay to win” philosophy of playing the economy. In fact, their only options are either leaving things as they are, OR removing MF completely from the game.
Or as a buff you receive from completing certain events. Honestly, again going back to Diablo 3 here (sadly), I’d like more of a reason to waste time killing Veterans and some of the higher ranked mobs in this game. Killing a Veteran only to loot a scrap of junk is disheartening, not to mention killing a champion or other higher ranking NPC. If killing them actually gave you a buff, like D3’s Nephalem Valor, then that would be something.
“Many fans disliked Magic Find in Diablo 2, and object to its proposed presence in Diablo 3. The typical argument is that Magic Find only encouraged more use of Magic Find. Players had to wear gear with MF to find better items, and since many of the best items had Magic Find, they just increased their MF further, in a self-perpetuating cycle. Magic Find was also unbalanced, since spell-casting characters and ranged attackers could load up on it without suffering any real drawbacks, while melee fighters had to devote their gear to boosting their damage, defense, resistance, hit points, and other survival bonuses, and thus were at a disadvantage when it came to finding better gear.”
And look at what Diablo 3 has done with Magic Find now…
I have not even found any mini games at all yet. How do I find them?
Keg Brawl is currently the only mini-game in the game actually. It is located in Hoelbrack, the capital city of the Norn. To reach it you can travel there through Lion Arch’s Asuran Portals, then it’s in the Northwest back of the city.
If this is the state any other mini-game they release though will be in I don’t see the point of adding anymore yet. They appear to have much more important things to do. As I will say again pretty confidently, I’m pretty sure no Developer has played Keg Brawl since live cause the problems are very obvious.
(edited by Threat Level Zero.8052)
This is definitely worse then before as Ive been witness to several players throwing the keg the full length of the battlefield… from the opposing NPC to their own… So I tell my team to target them and keep them bottoms up the whole round… but still this should probably be fixed
Also, when you select the practice option, the skills outside the brawl still function the same as before the update
I really think it would be a simple fix. Just remove the 2nd pass skill and add the short cast time to the first. Has a developer even played a match of Keg Brawl since it’s been live?
Would really love to get this mini-game, the only one in the game, fixed.
My AMD and ATI Radeon 6800’s Crossfire don’t run up to par either on this game. I practically have to run the game at lowest settings. I can turn a lot up to the highest settings, such as Shaders for instance, and it says I’m getting 70+ FPS sometimes but I get that crazy lag where it’s rubberbanding everything a lot.
Honestly it still runs better without Crossfire enabled, still at near low settings for everything, even with the latest drivers and everything.
They really do need to add a way to access this easier because honestly I haven’t even played one single game of keg brawl yet because I forget it exists when I’m out in the world doing PvE and WvW.
Let’s not forget it exist, I enjoy it! Or want to, if they’d fix it.
Eh, I completely forgot about this feature.
Quick tip to Arenanet, add this along with other minigames to an easily visible NPC in Lions Arch so people don’t have to go to far off places just to do one minigame.
That to ^. Or even, Heart of the Mists, as it is a PvP mini-game.
Keg Brawl has received some updates:
Lob: This skill is now ground-targeted.
Throw: This skill now has the range of the old Lob but with a casting time.
This is worse than before…
Throw’s range is only determined by camera angle. If you look up you can throw it the whole map, and many can easily score every time from midfield even with the short cast time as its easy to evade enemies long enough for it.
Lob now is ground-targeted and instant. Not only can you throw behind you, you can instantly throw behind you while knocked down even.
Honestly this only made Keg Brawl worse.
As a suggestion, why not add a cast time to the first ground-targeted throw and remove the second altogether. You obviously can’t fix the camera angle far-throwing, and this would also solve the issue of being able to throw while knocked down. Because as is the instant passing and full map keg tossing are still ruining the game. Have any developers actually played a game of keg brawl since the game has been live? I know you must be busy but….
As the OP already said… gw2 suddenly feels like D3 All over again.. i TRULY hope a.net stops right there and starts thinking about what they are doing before releasing whatever it is they are doing …. It would seem this is the first step to ‘shaking’ up this community and probably if more like these will come, its gonna fall apart… I’d be extremely sad if in 3 weeks time, gw2 will be an equal to D3.
It already is for me. It already feels more like Diablo 3 than any other game. The games problems and their solutions since launch have pretty much lined right up with Diablo 3’s sadly. Even the Auction House and Trading Post issues are the same for me. I can practically sell every piece of gear that drops, and the many I get I can’t use, and simply buy gear when I need it every few levels off the TP for cheap and not lose any money.
The only thing different is at endgame I’m going to work towards Legendary Weapons that are no better than blue weapons….wait, nope still just like D3 was.
Having played Diablo III, WoW, GW1, and now GW2 I can say I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement. Combat is more “actiony” in the sense that they added instant weapon-switching and the evade mechanic available to every class. This is where the similarities end between D3 and GW2 though.
You can fire off attacks out of range or whenever you please. Those attacks will simply miss. Or attacks such as ranged attacks will hit enemies in front of your target. Perhaps it ends there. But I’ll agree to disagree. The sole way to travel relying on waypoints instead of mounts, flying mounts, flying ships or whatever was in WoW is definitely more similar to an ARPG than WoW. But I’m also to lazy to break down your whole post into sections to reply to each point. The GW1 classes may be there in spirit, but gone are the dual-classing, plethora of skills, builds that revolved around an elite skill that recharged in seconds, and so much more that is nothing like what we have in GW2, where your main skill is almost always that first attack on your weapon set.
Well they destroyed CM story. Overall difficulty was not too bad….much worse to play now. Tons of mobs with spammy KDs, one shotting, champs everywhere. Playing on my mesmer could not even get into melee range with all the CC spam, could not keep up illusions whatsoever. Took me longer to cast them than they spent actual time in game world.
This ^
Uh, the combat was not fun at all in there. On my Necro I’m even more angry/jealous of dogs that can cast a fear that last probably 10x the duration of any fear I could cast even traited/runed for fear duration…. Seriously, what the kitten?
It does in a very small way remind me of the Diablo Series. Which, GW1 didn’t for some reason… I wonder what it is about GW2…
GW2 certainly moved farther towards ARPG for me. I’ve played GW1 enough to beat every campaign, as much as I’ve played every Diablo, or whatever other ARPG out there, even Darkspore… GW2’s more action based combat, the way attacks can fire and miss out of range, hit other targets that are in front of your target, combined with everything else I mentioned in my OP, definitely comes close to ARPG. Also, the classes with set weapons they can use, limited pool of abilities into the other slots, and the trait system also just feel more ARPG to me. Then there is the lack of other things.
I have to say Arena Net have done a fantastic job of making a massively multi-player online Diablo. I’m not sure why everyone wants to compare this game to WoW or GW1 when it obviously has more in common with Diablo games than either. You know what Diablo doesn’t have? Dedicated healers, or mounts. Oh and what about dungeons with the same layout but sometimes…guess what, different mobs? Sound familiar? What about waypoints, which of the three has those? Have you gotten your Magic Find gear-set put together yet? I have.
I’m not even hating, I love it. GW2 is my new Diablo.
As for an MMORPG though, I’m still waiting for another SWG, with player cities, open world PvP… let’s just say an actual sandbox. But for what it is, which I think a lot of people still have a misconception of, I think it’s great.
Yeah. I know this isn’t a huge issue for the game overall when there are plenty of other things to be looked at this early, but for the one mini-game that is in the game… it is totally ruined by it.
Fix it please. It really breaks this mini-game. Almost every game I participate in now has multiple people “exploiting” the camera-angle far tossing. I can reliably far-toss the keg from where it drops to the ale collector at least 80% of the time if I wanted to. That is broken.
But with this, throwing the keg out of the map through the hills, going outside the fence, it really makes Keg Brawl lame. Not to mention I’m never going to get the recoveries achievement considering no one is even dropping the keg when they can throw it across the map instantaneously. :p
Also, assist are hard to come by for many when it requires other players to pass or toss the keg to the ale collector instead of just interacting with him to turn it in. Perhaps allow it to also count or just make it so you can’t simply interact with him to turn it in? As is if you pass to someone and they just interact to turn it in you lose out on 10 keg scoring points if you did it yourself and the 3 assist points, essentially gaining nothing, so it could make other players selfish with passing.
And, if all of that is fixed, would it be possible to add Tournament Keg Brawl? I’d love to be able to join in teams for ranked Keg Brawl Matches. Allow players to queue for it from the Heart of the Mists rather than just the back corner of Hoelbrack and there might be more people actually queuing for it as well.
Update: I think I’ve figured it out now, and its not going to be easy. The fault lies within the player RECEIVING the pass, they must score with a “shot” and not a hand-in. I just got two pop-up notifies during my last game, and both times the player i threw to was not within talking distance / hand-in distance of the goal keep and instead made a shot to score. Using 1 based on the character throw animation. I haven’t tested this with a friend as none of them want to play keg brawl, so if someone is intrested in testin with me just add my posting name to friends list and send me a tell in game.
This is correct. The player you pass the keg to must also score by passing or throwing the keg to the ale collector. If they interact with him to turn it in it will not count as an assist.
Also, on the subject of Keg Brawl, recoveries are the hardest achievement for me to get actually because of the camera-angle far tossing. Until it gets fixed it seems every game there are multiple people throwing the keg across the whole map. It’s pretty much impossible to stop. I can pretty reliably throw the kegs to the ale collector from where they drop 80% of the time doing it if I so wanted…. It really needs to be “fixed” because until then Keg Brawl is really, really broken.
