In-game town clothing.

Town clothing are directly related to spending gems to obtain, whether buying gems with gold or with real money.

It’s a novelty item, and those are usually the bulk of income for games with no monthly and a cash shop.

I understand what you mean. That’s true. I still think it would be nice to have some in-game town clothing in addition to the gem store ones.

You make a good point though, that technically the gem store clothing is earnable via the gem/gold exchange system.

I know I’m not the first person to bring this up, and I certainly won’t be the last, but it still bugs me that besides the Iron’s Tailpipe Bandana there is no other town clothing that is earnable in-game.

I love the town clothing option. I would be great to obtain town clothing from vendors and crafting.

Why not ArenaNet? Think about it please!

Not sure if this has been suggested before, and if it has then sorry to make this again, but I think it would be cool if we could obtain titles from fulfilling certain parts of our personal storyline.

For example an asuran player could use the title “Savant”. Depending on the Order you join, the titles “Magister”, “Crusader” and “Agent” would be available.

Does this sound like a good idea? Wouldn’t it be cool to use a title that the storyline NPCs bestow upon you?

I’ve finally responded to those email authentication messages I’ve been receiving and now I’ve reached an impasse.

My email is verified, but the Guild Wars 2 Client gets stuck with the “Waiting for Authentication…” message and then I get Error Code 42.

I’ve already set up my Windows Firewall to accept Guild Wars 2 and its client according to the webpage instructions.

Could I possibly be doing something wrong? I added the recommended ports on TCP for both local and remote. I’ve attached a picture of what I’m dealing with.

Thanks and take care!

Why do most of you prefer to play alone?

I love playing alone. It’s fun playing my way at my own pace. The most group intensive content I do is dynamic events. What makes those awesome is that I can play with other people without having to join a party or be in a guild. I talk to people in the map chat if I feel like socializing.

ArenaNet did the right thing by making this game solo-friendly. I hope it stays that way.

Ignoring Ascended Tier

I’m with you! I’ll just ignore the Ascended gear and play the way I have since launch. I’ll let it slide, so as long as this doesn’t become WoW 2.0. I’ll wait and see how this slippery slope argument holds out, then if it turns out that GW2 is going down a despicable path then and only then will I jump on the quitting bandwagon. It’s still too early to tell in my opinion. ArenaNet has the opportunity to turn this situation around.

What I Use to do In GW2... And What I Now Do.

I’m doing what I always do:

  • Crafting
  • Dynamic Events
  • Exploration
  • Jumping Puzzles

I might sample Fractals but I won’t get into like others are doing. I won’t bother getting the “best gear” either, since I play for fun not competition.

What is a "dedicated player"?

Thrombus.1796

Good question. I thought I was dedicated just for enjoying the game without trying to be the best.

My “end-game gear” is the Durmand Priory set. Sure it’s not up there Exotics, Ascended or Legendaries, but it works for me!

Why does the personal story finish in Arah?

I don’t really mind. I understand why it’s frustrating. I’ve been enjoying the game solo too. However, I think this one bit of attunement (doing the Orr meta-events to open Arah) and the dungeon itself as the final step is a nice touch.

If this were Warcraft, most of us wouldn’t be able to see or participate in the final battle against the big boss. Instead we all get a chance to kill Zhaitan and see how the story ends. Just the fact that we get to do this without being in an elite raiding guild satisfies me.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, just this is my PoV. If anything I also blame Fractals for taking players away from Orr. I haven’t tried Fractals yet, so I have no opinion on the quality of that dungeon but I have noticed more level 80s hanging around Lion’s Arch doing Fractals instead of going to Orr. In my humble opinion, that’s the problem.

So far the only piece of town clothing obtainable in-game without buying from the gem store or doing a holiday event is the Iron’s Tailpipe Bandana. Wouldn’t it great if there was more town clothing availabe from renowned hearts, vendors and crafting?

When you say progression...

Fixing and improving existing content throughout the game, and better tying it into the overall sense of player progression within Guild Wars 2.

This doesn’t mean more Fractals/Ascended gear style “progression” does it? I shouldn’t have to worry about my gear being the latest and greatest to enjoy anything. If I wanted that playstyle, I would go back to Warcraft.

I'll let this slide and here's why.

I hope that what she meant was merely having an edge in FoTM, in which case I could care less since .

Why do you “hope?” It is in plain evidence that this is not what was meant.

I hope that’s the case because like I said before it would be horrible if Ascended gear gave an edge beyond FoTM and ArenaNet used that as a stepping stone to introduce a bigger gear treadmill.

You may be right though. I’m letting the forum get to me.

I'll let this slide and here's why.

Thrombus.1796

First off let me say that the introduction of Ascended gear does concern me. However I’m going to let this slide because I can still log onto the game and enjoy it.

While it is annoying to see people desperately making LFG requests in Lion’s Arch for FoTM, it doesn’t stop me from exploring, experiencing my personal story, obtaining achievements or participating in dynamic events.

When Lindsey mentioned having “an edge in end-game”, that worried me. I hope that what she meant was merely having an edge in FoTM, in which case I could care less since I’m not a dungeon runner. It will bother me if we get WoW 2.0 and gear overrides skill and becomes the end-all, be-all of our GW2 experience.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Thrombus.1796

I’ve brooded on this Ascended gear issues. At first, I was neutral and indifferent to it. I thought, “It’s probably nothing. Everyone’s just spazzing over something minor!”.

Then I read more into it and see it for what it is: a gear treadmill. I will still play GW2, but I feel somewhat betrayed. I never thought ArenaNet would go back on their promise against excluding a gear treadmill.

What drew me to this game was the fact that gear was minor feature and there was no pressure to be the “best”.

Lindsey’s own words, “the edge in end-game”, worried me. Why should players with better gear have the edge when this game was supposed to be about skill not gear?

I sincerely hope they correct this. Perhaps I’m being too hopeful, but I would forgive ArenaNet for this if they reversed this gear treadmill nonsense.

Hmm. Good point. I didn’t think about it like that. Ideally though there would be a way around it, but I’m not a game developer so I don’t know how to answer that!

Probably not. Sad but makes sense. Glad to know though that I’m not the only one who would like to see this!

Getting a thank you letter is nice, but not fulfilling enough. I still feel good when I complete renown hearts!

If this has been suggested before, then sorry for repeating this!

Since renown hearts are only meant to be done once, why not phase the aftermath of their completion? We do have dynamic events to fill in the void! I know it would take a major patch or expansion to make something like this happen, and not everyone would like it, but I feel it would add to the immersion to see our tasks leaving a permanent mark on Tyria.

Everyone else, what do you think? Yay, nay or alternate idea?

Warts and all, I'm enjoying this game!

Just want to say that I haven’t enjoyed playing an MMO like this for a long time. I know GW2 is far from perfect and has its problems, but I’m loving every minute of it! I even forgive that dreadful error code 7.

Anyone else enjoying it?

I’ve been putting up with this a lot lately too. I’ve tried ArenaNet’s suggestions. I’ve even made sure my drivers are updated, that my connection is working, and that my firewall is accepting the game. Actually after I adjusted my firewall according to their suggestion, how weird is it that my error code 7 problem got worse! It seems that way.

I really do enjoy this game, but error code 7 is making it unplayable. It’s very frustrating. It’s gotten to the point where the error begins right after I log on!

Please do something ArenaNet. I’ve tried everything on my end. I don’t like the notion that my time and money were wasted.

Disconnecting Frequently

Thrombus.1796

Does this happen to anyone else? My connection is fine, my laptop can handle GW2 fine as well, and I’ve checked for any and all problems on my end. However I keep having issues, mainly during the day, with frequent disconnections. I never had these problems in the beginning but they seem to be common now at least during this last week. It is very aggravating and makes playing this game stressful.

I’m really enjoying GW2, but it’s no fun when you’re disconnected nearly everytime you’re on. I wish GW2 had a “Repair” option built in, then I would simply do that or defrag it. I don’t know anymore! I just want to play my game.
