It didn’t happen.
Now run off and play with a ball of yarn, kitty.
“I don’t want to buy Windows, and more importantly, I don’t want to use Windows. I’m very happy that ArenaNet provides a Mac client, even if it is still beta, and even if it is wrapper based and not native.”
Precisely. Well, mostly. I do have Windows 7 on my MBP, and I love Windows 7 on my PCs. But it’s a hassle to relaunch my computer to play games, because I’m typically playing games around my work time. I prefer to switch seamlessly between the two, so I’d rather take a few extra bugs and a slight hit in performance in order to play my games without having to boot out of OSX. Yep, that limits me in the games I play most, but I’m okay with that. I love Guild Wars 2. I love EVE Online. I’m okay with being limited to those (and a handful of others) and having a little buggier experience rather than switching computers or rebooting all the time.
I’ve been using the Mac client on my MBP since it became available. Previously I was on the Windows side with bootcamp.
Overall, the experience is now equal in virtually every way with the Windows experience with the exception of what’s listed here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Known-Issues-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Beta-Client
The biggest loss in playing on Mac compared to PC IMHO is the loss of the F keys on the MBP, either having to hit fn for them to work or manually clicking.
My performance is no better on OSX compared to W7, but it’s certainly a lot more convenient than rebooting the MBP every time I want to play.
There is an option to keybind your town clothes. I have it on num pad – and it’s a quick tap to put them on or off. They added it before Halloween, though it was a stealthy thing without fanfare.
Ahh, beautiful! I got involved in doing other things in October and so totally missed that update, but it was a constant bother through the first couple months of the game. Thanks, I knew I should have checked again before putting that into my post.
More than likely it was removed due to people trying to make it look like they weren’t wearing anything at all. Even though even a cursory look would prove otherwise.
That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be an option.
Early on in SWG, there was a bodysuit that had a solid color, and people were using it to (sort of) look like they were in the buff. In that situation, the devs changed the texture so there was always a pattern of darker lines on the outfit in order to prevent people from appearing nude, even at a glance.
Having patterned/higher-texture underwear or color-shifting the tones away from any available skintones should resolve the “problem” and allow for dyeable undergarments.
Nonetheless, it’s not a huge issue for me. I file it under the “would be nice” category, but it doesn’t bother me too much that my friends and I all have matching underwear when we go diving. Who’s to say we don’t enjoy color coordinating?
I love the concept of town clothes, I just wish for two things as far as they’re concerned:
1) More variety
2) Easy switching
It would be awesome to see additional town clothes introduced. Certainly what we see NPCs wearing, but also other varieties, even if they’re just “fashion collections” (summer-type, winter-type). Just some options to give us more choices as far as wearing town clothes is concerned. Right now the choices seem far too limited.
It is really easy to get out of town clothes—hit ~ or get hit by something. Getting into town clothes requires the steps of opening your character sheet and clicking over to the town clothes. While it’s not much effort, it’s enough to discourage people from switching to town clothes as often as they otherwise might. Adding a hotkey or at least making one available for binding would give players more of an opportunity to show off the creators’ hard work on town clothes.
I agree with Kaimick and juno. Stats are about making choices. There’s no difference between making choices with Magic Find and making choices with any other kind of stat.
I didn’t mind Traderp for the beginning of it. Seeing him in the Pale Tree vision I was glad to see some character growth even if his speech was monotone and written by a middle school DM. What broke it for me were a few things:
Sieran and Tybalt for starters
Both of them had better voice acting that actually sold their personalities. They both had quirks and they both had better character arcs. Comparing Traderp to those to make his seem like a lesser “citizen” standing in the background muttering prerendered dialogue.
I agree, Trahearne (Traderp, as I’m going to call him from now on—thank-you!) was not a spotlight ready character. And no, I’m not talking about him being “forced” into a leadership role. I mean that the character “works” as a background or even a secondary character. But not as a main character.
Tybalt would have made an excellent continuing main character. He had a strong personality and strong voice acting that made him incredibly memorable. He would have been a fine companion through the final storyline missions, especially since he had not only his Charr training and Order of Secrets training, but he had also spent years doing research-type work for the Order. Was he a scene stealer? Sure, to a certain extent, but in a way that was endearing rather than annoying. Tybalt was a mentor-turned-friend, and it worked well. Traderp was a vegetable-turned-overlord, and that didn’t work out so well.
Traderp would have been a much more enjoyable character—even as pact leader—if he had been kept as a background character, and only shown up in missions when absolutely necessary. Instead he’s touted as this masterful, yet reluctant military strategist and leader who has a mighty sword. Yet he fails to lead, he spends more time writing speeches than battle plans and he rarely puts his sword to good use.
Presuming the rationale behind this event was to coincide with the invite-a-noob weekend, it’s not working out so well. It’s just introducing the new players to a series of broken quests and massive lag.
Events shouldn’t be tied to that sort of thing, especially when they’re untested on a mass audience. Furthermore, such events shouldn’t be released for just one weekend with a series of timers that make it incredibly difficult for people to play all three days in order to fully complete the event. Especially not when the system for adding these kinds of events is obviously not working properly, leading to the stalls in the events.
I think this could be prevented in the future in a few ways:
1) Don’t hold an “invite-a-noob” event on the same weekend you release an untested event
2) Avoid confining an event chain to just a single weekend
3) Develop a system that allows dynamic events to be created “out of the box” so future event releases do not experience so many bugs at the outset
4) Avoid deadlined chain events (ie noon Friday to noon Saturday, then it ends and next one starts noon Saturday to noon Sunday, etc). When those are bugged or on incredibly short deadlines like the Lost Shores event series it causes players a great amount of frustration, because they feel they are being deprived of game content.
I think you are reading too much into it, Temariah. What I see is a request for additional armor appearances so that both female and male avatars may dress in a way that is either (or both) aesthetically pleasing to the player or fits the avatar’s personality.
Personally, I would love it if my male Norn could toggle his chest armor, like he can for his helm and shoulders. It would allow him to show off his chest tattoo, which is mostly obscured by any current heavy armor set, even the one posted earlier in this thread.
It’s my opinion that as more armor is added, both genders should have a variety of armor—heavy, medium and light—that allows them to showcase or cover their bodies as they see fit.
