The fractals is my favorite dungeon by far so far, beautiful and varied environments with challenging gameplay. I played the winter one, the colossus and the dredge. I had a great time figuring out with my team how to make it work etc, and we aced them in the end. Very much looking forward to going in many times again.
The only negative thing I can think about it is that presumably there will be “agony” the further in we get, and I don’t like the idea of having to grind for certain gear just to keep playing.
“You pour hours and hours into grinding, only to acquire some skins, how is that satisfying?”
This is EXACTLY what I and many others find extremely satisfying.
I could not care less for seeing higher numbers on my screen, I just want to get a set that has the max stats and then work towards getting the rare skins, now I can’t.
Now I have to get the max stats, work towards getting a rare skin, then comes this update and I have to shift my focus for a while to get the new max stats, then I can continue working towards the skin I want (until they release even highers stats…).Adding higher number gear to the game does NOTHING but take time away from me that I wanted to spend doing kitten I like, which definitively is not some mandatory grind to stay relevant.
Then MMO is not for you.
Better gear will always come out.
When level cap increase so does the quality of the gear.
When new expansion comes out so does new legendary weapons.
That’s inevitable.
What’s preventable is needing a certain gear in order to complete a certain part of a dungeon, which is a ridiculous design and should be avoided at all cost.
My point is, I thought GW2 would be different from the other MMOs.
I was clearly wrong.

In my eyes A-net will lose more than win with this bullkitten
It’s pretty obvious when you look at the reactions. Only a tiny minority like the change, the vast majority dislikes it.
Not really. The amount of QQers on the forums is always higher than the amount of people who are happy with everything. That’s because people who are happy, and like the new changes, have no real reason to post on the forums, while the negative people make huge QQ threads like this one to show how unhappy they are.
A thread like this one doesn’t say a thing about the people who like it / people who don’t like it ratio.
I go see the forums almost daily despite the fact that I have nothing to complain about. You’re pulling this “only whiners post on forums” out of nothing to defend your minority side that likes the ascended stuff.
I usually respect everyone’s opinion and don’t involve myself into such argument, but I hate to see this..
Stop whining.. seriously!
You don’t have to get the Ascended armor set unless you want to play the new dungeon. It’ll basically gives better protection against the new game mechanic.
It ‘ll slightly powerful than exotic yes, but guess what, I don’t have full exotic set and I don’t have a single problem with dungeons, WvW whatsoever.So.. you making yourselves the problem. If you don’t want it you don’t get it. It’s that simple. If you don’t like the new dungeon, you don’t go in there. You won’t miss on anything.

So locking people who don’t want to grind out of content is now a good thing?
People are really so paranoid here. 56 pages.
Don’t worry too much. -_-- PLEASE Read This -
They still live by their philosophy. Why can’t you guys see that?
More importantly, what are you guys afraid of?GW2: Ascended gears are just another tier. It’s not a requirement to have it to experience any future new content X/Y/Z. You can have fun with all in-game content and dungeons with any tier equipments. You don’t need to grind to experience content X/Y/Z.
Traditional MMO: Better gears are needed to experience new contents, story in PVE and raids. Those gears are a mandatory requirement to reap the fun of the the new content X/Y/Z. Players are forced to grind just to experience newer content.
They are so different.
Yet, it ponders me why can’t people see it.
How can I enjoy WvWvW now that my gear is sub-optimal? This mean the people who grinded to get full ascended and infused gear will have an edge in the game, and this game was supposed to be Skill > Gear. To stay competitive I have to upgrade all my gear. And man, it’s just a matter of time before we will see “LF2M ASC/INFUSED GEAR ONLY”
This is just the first step towards a much much worse game.
I know my voice won’t be heard, but you guys, they have released barely any information. Let them write the blog post they promised before freaking out.
Maybe it’s used to fight the karka, and it truly doesn’t require a grind at all. It’s all ok guys.
The blog post is out, and it’s exactly as bad as it sounds.
GW2 was supposed to be different from all the other MMO’s.
This is a step in the wrong direction, a step towards becoming another WoW clone with the gear progression and all.
I have not spoken to a single person in game that liked this new progression. Not one. I have leveled and geared 4 lvl 80 characters with exotics, this was because I thought that this would be it, then I could simply enjoy the game on all of my characters forever.
Well, not even 3 months into the game my gear is obsolete, and I have to grind to get full ascended gear on my characters…
I thought this franchise was about Skill > Gear?
No, this is the WORST thing that could happen to GW2.
I got into this game to get AWAY from the gear treadmill. The idea that you could gear up easily and then your SKILL and not GEAR would matter appeals to me, now this is ruined because before my skill matters I’ll have to grind for new gear.
HORRIBLE decision.
I love how people always over-react to things before we have ANY kind of information.
For all we know the “slightly better stats” means an increase of 5 points. Guess what?
Those 5 points won’t make the player immortal. And for all we know this set is specific for the dungeon, meaning we can ONLY use it in the dungeons.
Stop whining until we actually know what is going on.
Come on, why would they increase that stats by merely 5 points? What is the point of increasing the stats if it’s by that little, other than to piss off the players?
This is a horrible decision. I thought GW2 would be different from the other MMO’s…
It started out so well, legendaries have the same stats as exotics, why would they change it now?!
I made a post about this in the Halloween thread regarding the Endless Halloween tonics, and many people agreed with my stance so I figured I’d share it here as a suggestion. (I will write this with the halloween tonic as an example)
The major problem with having account bound endless tonics is that people can be grouped into two groups. Some people REALLY want to have it, while the other kind really don’t care for it at all, and will leave it unused forever.
To get one you have to be extremely lucky. There is no way to craft one, so you have to rely on chance. This means that someone who desperately wants one might go through 1000s of chests/bags to get one, while someone who don’t care for it might get it in their first bag.
This leaves us with one batch of players that really really want an endless tonic, but cannot get it, and one batch that has it, but don’t really want it.
The solution is easy, make them sellable. This is how it worked in GW1, and it made everyone happy. Those who really wanted it but didn’t wanna take a chance could simply buy it from someone who got lucky but didnt want it. It truly satisfies both parties.
I’m probably repeating myself a bit, but the solution really is easy and I can’t find a good reasons as to why they are bound to your account at the moment. It worked like this in GW1 without any complications, so to me it just makes sense to change this very minor, but important function.
Except that it will go for a lot of money which most people cannot afford, so people who want it still cannot get it.
Granted everyone would not be able to buy one from the TP, but some would and that’s better than what we have today, endless tonics rotting away in someones bank while there are people who would love to buy it.
The clocktower was BY FAR my favorite part about the event.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate a good challenge these days when they seem to be hard to come by. It took me about an hour to complete it the first time and then I just kept on playing it over and over to see how smoothly I could finish it, and I got it down pretty kitten well, I had a success rate of probably 90% after some hours.
The social aspect of it was great as well, when I couldn’t make it me and my group would make jokes and talk inbetween rounds and we all had a good time, even though we hadn’t made it yet, I wouldn’t want it to be a solo instance EVER.
I hope we get a new jump puzzle for wintersday, and I hope it will be even tougher.
Anyone know why it was made account bound in the first place? As I recall it the endless tonics in GW1 was tradeable
Some people wanted to get one really badly but didn’t get it, some people don’t care for it but got it.
Instead of making them account bound, don’t bind them at all and let people sell them on the TP. This would benefit both of these groups, right?
Why oh why was this changed? It might seem silly but I lost a lot of the joy playing my norn now, it doesn’t look like she’s wielding a greatsword ready for battle, it looks like she’s a delivery-girl running with it as a package for someone else…
Please tell me this is a bug and not a changed animation
Giving more tokens or reducing the price is unfair to those people who already played dozens of dungeons and maybe even bought gear for those tokens.
And not doing it is unfair to the game because it makes one of the more repeatable content types feel like more of a grind than it needs to. We weren’t going to release a perfect game, and can’t let things live this stop us from improving the experience for the majority of the players.
