Another way to request a refund is to Submit a Ticket:
You’ll end up at the same screen so actually it’s the same way :-)
On this page in the upper menu: Click on “SUPPORT”
Next screen: Click on “Submit a request”
Follow the prompts.
You will need to know the code you were given for HOT

Here is some information I received about refunds:

For OSX. You need to try this:
you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.

To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

It helped me. Hope it helps you too. Or at least gets you closer to playing the thing.

I paid too much money for the HoT expansion. That was about 2 months ago. And that’s what I would like ArenaNet to refund.

Then you’ve fully entitled to ask for a refund. Submit a support ticked and they’ll most likely be happy to do so.

I checked my purchase date on HoT, and surprise, it’s less than 30 days ago. And it was purchased from their website. So a refund should be possible for me.
But it appears they are saying everything will be taken away including my original purchase of GW2. I must be reading that wrong. Maybe I want to start characters over again at level 1. I’ve had HoT less than 30 days, so I should get a refund, but they should not take away anything not related to HoT. I asked for a clarification. No response yet.

Sorry to hear your having trouble. But that exception number: c…5 is applied to many different things. This doesn’t mean the same thing is happening to you if that number comes up. I don’t know how often it happens to you. But it sounds like you are still able to play the game. For it to be happening for months means you’ve been playing for months. I’m talking about not being able to play the game at all.

If you take a look at other postings you will see what the original post is about is not happening to Microsoft OS players the same as with Apple OS players. It’s only happening to Apple OS players. Or at a much greater intensity. And It started after paying for the expansion, and the expansion becoming live. I and other Apple OS players cannot now play the game.

“A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.”

I did not know anything about this thing called “Cider Wrapper.” But I was lead to believe I could play GW2 including the expansion HoT on Appple OS X El Capitan. It appears this “Cider Wrapper” thing does not work. I now know it has not worked properly since it started over 3 years ago. It has never come out of “beta.” At first I thought it was beta because of work on the expansion. After expansion, the longest I’ve been able to play is about 5 minutes. Just now tried to play GW2 and it crashed in 4 minutes & 43 seconds. Obviously the game is now unplayable on Apple OS X.

So ArenaNet has no intention of making a real client for Apple OS X? All those people on the Twitch videos look like nice honest people. It was good PR. I paid for an expansion that worked okay on the Beta Weekend. What changed? ArenaNet is a business set up to make money. ArenaNet is making money. Is that it? How many people at ArenaNet are working on “code” for Apple OS client? How many working there with knowledge of Apple OS code?

No Log In Window on HoT Expansion in Apple OS

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Treemoon.6538

Treemoon.6538

Doing those 5 things you suggested FlamingFoxx did allow the log in window to come up. Although my time in the game lasted less than 5 minutes. After being kicked out of the game 3 times in less than 5 minutes each time; the log in window still comes up. But as it is, it appears this GW2 expansion may be unplayable on OS X El Capitan. I hope that’s not true. I don’t need more memory or faster chip or better graphics.

But wait. I went on again for about 5 minutes and no crashes within 5 minutes. So between spinning characters stuck spinning and random game crashes it’s a wait and see what happens. But this doesn’t look good. Will try to play some more soon, and comment on how it goes. Anyway, thanks for your help.

No Log In Window on HoT Expansion in Apple OS

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Treemoon.6538

Treemoon.6538

I think the expansion has created changes in the way GW2HoT comes up.
After the game crashed 3 times; each time shortly after logging in on an Apple iMac 2013, OS X El Capitan 10.11.1. The game now does not bring up the log in window. Even after waiting 40 minutes.

Instead of bringing up the log in screen, the GW2 red 2 icon displays in the dock as usual indicating GW2 is running. Clicking on the GW2 icon shows the brief menu for GW2. But that is all. When you right click and click on the GW2 icon in the dock and select “show all windows” then all icons go away and a blue line forming a box that takes up the entire screen shows.

Something has changed with GW2 logging in. Every time when bringing it up It behaves differently on Windows 7 now too. But unlike the Apple computer the log in screen on Windows 7 will come up and you can log into the game. What is new on the PC now is: a small pop-up window always comes up. The pop-up window displays:

User Account Control
“Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?”
Program Name: Guild Wars 2 Game Client
Verified publisher: ArenaNet. Inc.
File origin: Hard drive on this computer
[Yes] [No]

Click yes and the log in window comes up. And you can log in as usual.
This did not happen before HoT Expansion on Windows 7.

I will try again tomorrow.

Turn off or deactivate collecting experience

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Treemoon.6538

Is it possible to stop collecting experience. Then start collecting experience.
I would like to have a choice on what experience a character takes in.
For example: Experience forced on a character because it’s passing on a road, or dealing with a vendor close to a dynamic event is not earned by playing. I don’t want that experience. Having experience forced onto a character for doing nothing takes away from the idea of doing something to earn experience. To me that’s not playing a game. Some like this. So there should be an option to say yes to all experience offered. And an option to say no or yes to experience being offered. Something simple like a toggle—open/close.

Best way to experience this beta weekend?

Treemoon.6538

Looking forward to playing the beta this weekend. Hopefully free time set aside in order to take advantage of this weekend & do as much variety as possible, to have fun, & have new experiences; and learn more about future possibilities, and just play the game. I’ve read a some things about what will happen and what can be done during the Final Beta Weekend by someone who pre-purchased. Got some good info from the article by Johanson:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-final-beta-weekend-event-begins-october-2/
Also read some of the links in the article. Can’t start building beta characters yet?

Anyone know of any other articles describing what will be available to do?
Any ideas or suggestions? Just knowing what the possibilities are going to be would be helpful. What would you do?

What will be available during the beta weekend that will not be available after Oct 4? That is, not just new stuff, but anything. Especially for someone who will go back to playing at a much lower level.

Top-down view spins if try to Pan. Can't Pan.

I posted this on “Players Helping Players”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Mouse-wont-pan-Stuck-in-top-down-view-Spins/first#post5552457

But now this is more a technical issue, possibly a bug. And also a new thought that it might have something to do with using a track pad. So I came here.

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28147936-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Edition
said to post technical problems with them here. Don’t know if it can be a “bug.”

I use an Apple track pad along side my gaming mouse when playing GW2. Usually there is no problem. I’m still not sure if this problem occurs only when using the track pad. The last time it did happen when using the track pad. Using the track pad the view angle was being moved around at one point it was looking directly look down on the character. Then the view angle looking directly down on the character became stuck. And could not be changed. Could zoom in & out. Tried to change the view angle the normal ways with the mouse and the track pad. But the picture would only spin like it can do when the mouse is moved left and right on a look down view only a much faster spin. Except at this point it spins no matter which way the mouse is moved. It destroys the ability to play the game. The only solution I have found is to totally leave the GW2 game app, and closing the log-in window; and then log back into the game.

Attempts to make the view angle become frozen or stuck in that one position to see what’s going on haven’t worked.

When the view angle gets stuck: IF I try to change the view by pressing one of the mouse buttons and moving the mouse to pan; THEN the view spins around with my character in the middle. The spinning happens both moving the mouse left/right & forward/back.

Is there a way I can fix this in game or without totally leaving and closing the game app? Thanks for any help.

Mouse wont pan Stuck in top-down view & Spins

Noticed that that freezing of control over the view angle just now happened when using an Apple track pad to look at some things. The view was changed to directly above using the track pad and it stuck. Maybe it’s a bug related to use of a track pad. Usually there is no problem looking around and zooming the view using the track pad. I use a track pad and my mouse together all the time without problems. This only seems to happen when I’m standing around with a vendor or a banker. Will find out how to submit bugs to tech support.
But if anyone has any information about this, would you please share it with me.

Mouse wont pan Stuck in top-down view & Spins

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Treemoon.6538

Treemoon.6538

Trying to get back into playing the game recently. About three times so far my view of my character becomes stuck on the view looking down from directly above my character. Trying to pan by pressing either mouse button and moving the mouse just makes the view rotate while keeping the character in the middle of the spin. I don’t know how to get out of this. Has anyone heard of this? Is there a way to get back to the normal panning ability?

The view will only look straight down on the character. And all I can do is spin that view. Cannot pan to change the view to look in any direction. Tried logging out and choosing a different character. The same thing happens. Tried logging out and logging back in. Spinning view continues.

Tried logging out & closing the log in window. And then after again bringing up log in window and logging in again, and bringing up the character, things worked as normal, no more spinning. This was happening before the last time I was playing before recently starting to play again. I think someone knew and explained what was going on. Can’t find any notes regarding this problem.

Am I doing something that causes this? Am I accidentally selecting this option? Is there a simple way to unselect or reset whatever, and stop being stuck in this spinning view without exiting and closing everything down? Is there a way to avoid or stop this problem?
Tried searching for other posts and on the internet about this.

Grateful for any help.

LOG IN screen comes up okay now. You were correct Thaddeus. Thank you.
Side note: At the same time logging into Arenanet was slow, this forum also seemed to be slow.

Looks like nothing got messed up by reinstalling onto previous installation. Just wasted some time. Glad that there is no need to delete & reinstall again. So the serial code for the expansion has been entered. Now no need to do anything else regarding expansion. Except morn the loss of my dear sweet money. :-)

Feeling like I wasted my money. Wish I read your post about loading and playing as usual. I thought I had to reinstall GW2 with the new expansion. At first I was going to say it will not come up. On the Apple It shows up in the dock but does not come up at all. On the PC it says “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” But I found out it comes up but it takes about 4 or 5 minutes for the LOG IN screen to come up. This did not happen before I installed what I thought was the new GW2 onto the old GW2. The internet speed is okay. And the files from Arenanet will not all download.

Should I delete and install again? And wait again for all the files to download again? There should be directions on what to do with expensive “Expansions” to install it. Probably just missed seeing them.

Seeking knowledge and understanding. This is not a complaint. I like the game. And plan to continue playing it one way or another. I’m posting it here because it concerns GW2 Heart of Thorns

Bought Guild Wars 2 about two years ago. I’m a casual player. Stopped playing about 6 months ago. Recently started playing it again. Cannot explain why I stopped. I just bought GW2: Heart of Thorns. I feel rather stupid because I’m not sure what I bought. I’m not anything like finished playing GW2. My levels are only in the 30’s. I don’t want to stop playing GW2. Will I now be forced to play GW2HoT instead of GW2? Is the GW2 world now gone? :-o Will it run with or on top of the GW2 software app. I’ve been reading, & watching some videos. But sorry, still don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m not sure about the difference between version, expansion, edition, etc.

This is obviously such an ignorant newbie post. What are these three games: GW, GW2, GW2:HoT? I don’t think they are different versions, at least not in the same way. They are not editions of GW. For example GW has the editions: Factions / Nightfall / Eye of North / Platinum / Trilogy. What’s an edition? An edition gives more stuff, more things, more ?. They also have add-ons & upgrades. GW2:HoT is an “expansion.” So what’s an expansion? Maybe it’s like an “edition,” only bigger?

I think updates, add-ons, & upgrades are new stuff to use in the same game. Editions are like that. Editions are software added into (or run on top of) the game app software you have already installed, except each edition must be paid for seperately. After being installed, does that installed edition run whenever the original game such as GW is started/opened??

GW & GW2 are different & separate software? Each plays online separately with a totally different set of other players? So each runs separately? I never played GW. Trying to decide whether to buy it to see the differences? Maybe I would enjoy playing GW too. It appears GW is being maintained & updated still with active players. And this too seems to be saying it is unique enough and good enough to be worth a look. I am interested in doing that. But I am feeling overwhelmed and a bit piggy—trying to cram everything GW into my little brain. :-) Also having trouble finding the time just to do the research to understand these things. Would rather be playing; but gathering this info on it is in a sense part of playing the game.

It’s likely this is all explained in some other post or web page. I have spent more than several hours searching this forum, the wiki’s, and the internet in general. Including Game Release Notes sub-forum. Learned a few things. Thanks for any info regarding GW +, GW2, & GW2HoT.
