Returning lvl 80 Guard!

Trickster.3842

Hi im looking to join a PvE biased Guild.
Iv been playing since release had a long period out and i came back to find my guild inactive.
I currently reside on Gunnars Hold, although with the new mega servers im not sure how important that is?
I usually play 9pm (GMT) onwards most nights. Im not opposed to PvP or WvW if the need calls for it. And dungeon runs whenever im online.
I currently have a lvl 80 Guard and wiped the others so now have low lvl alts, which id like to level up. But soloing is quite a pain at times and it cant hurt to have some guildies to help out. I also dont mind lending a hand wherever needed.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good guild please?
Id be very grateful!

Play GW2 as it should be, with a controller!

A couple of questions.

Also has anyone tried this and/or the Nostromo keypad? Which seems better. I’ve got large hands and I need to find a better solution than trying to scrunch up my hand to select the proper keys.

Thanks.

Just to add i recommend using this gamepad/keypad. You can put all The 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 + spacebar keys all under your thumb by way of a d-pad and and 2 buttons. F1,F2,F3,F4 directly under your movement w,a,s,d keys. Makes for a better experience i feel.
Keys like your inv, hero panel and map can be placed within 2 keys reach of your movement keys.
Your weapon swap is under your index finger by way of a scroll wheel and click it to hide/unhide your weapons.
And yet it still feels roomy/spacey. Not cramped up like on a conevential KB.
You still have to transfer to KB for chat but its all right next each other.

I may have to have a go at this controller playing style though, and see what it plays like. Seems interesting the thought of just sitting back relaxed and playing guild wars 2!
Surely you dont get the same responsiveness or accuracy from the controller over a mouse though?

Server Transferring? Friendlier Servers?

Iv been on Gunnar’s Hold EU server since day 1. And this is also a very friendly server. Plenty of people on here jump in to help you out, just wandering around. And if not then just ask in game chat and you will near always get a helper or two.
Iv done a few dungeon runs and had mixed experiences but no big deal just politley leave them to it. Mostly though positive runs and very helpful.
If im really honest here, iv never even remotley had a situation that iv ever thought to myself “this guy is crazy”or “man im leaving this server”.
Maybe its just the way the game is orientated to group play and sharing, but this server always seems busy and friendly.
Also iv never really been placed in an overfow server either. Maybe once or twice earlier on in the game, as its a medium pop server. But like i said plenty of people around on here.

I also have a recent encounter to share with you. I was at the Demongrub JP in Queensdale the other day with my newly run necro, and slightly under leveled i might add.
Another also low lvl necro comes along and we both get killed by them vet oozes in there. So me being me i say to him il return with a higher lvl char and help you out. So i return and complete it with him. Then to my amazment he kindly offers to do exactly the same for me and returns to help my low lvl necro out.
Just one of the many good encounters iv had on here so far!

Question about server and gear

It is very frustrating at low levels no matter which class or race you choose. Iv leveled most available combinations to at least low 20’s and necro was by far the most frustating, so i hear where your comng from.
Karma is entirely your choice. Doing dailys, montly and other events gives you loads of karma. So you will always have loads of it available. It all depends on what exactly you want from the game. If your aiming for all the top level exotics legendaries and what not then stock pile it. If you want to cruise through PvE then spend some on what you see fit to help you. But it is your choice how you spend it.

When you chose your server was it low/med/high? Im currently on gunnars hold eu server and that is med. But there are always enough people around to help.
Some areas are more populated than others. For example Wayfarer foothills and queensdale usually have loads of people lurking around waiting for big boss fights. Plus there are loads of events popping up in these areas too. I found The slyvari starting area and also the asura starting area a little quieter than others. I could be wrong though, but try going to these places and see if there are anymore people around to help out. Other than that maybe look into swapping servers if your really not happy. But im sure it costs money to do this so its a last resort id say.
You can go to lions arch and travel to any other area for free from there using the portals. All starting levels are the same level.

Question about server and gear

Hi there,
As for the server question im unsure on that one.
The trouble is with necro/mesmer and other proffesions that use light armor is that if a mob gets close enough to mele you, you are going to feel it badly. Sadly this is more so in lower lvl regions. if you encounter more than one enemy that chance doubles. My advice for this is to give yourself enough range to use your traps/marks etc and give yourself enough breathing room to make a quick exit if needs be. Stay clear of mele range if at all possible and pick out single enemies where possible.

The gear you will pick up as you progress but still wont offer masses of protection for your necro. If you can though use all available upgrade slots with gems etc and always check your karma npcs for trinkets to give you a special ring/amulet etc.. and even weapons and armor for that extra little boost.

Im currentluy using a lvl 67 guard with tier2 cultural armor and exotic weapons and i still get owned if im not careful even in low lvl areas. Just pick your encounters carefully. Anything up to and above your current lvl is going to be a challenge!

My suggestion would be to go explore everything on your current map/region, do all available heart missions, find all Vistas/poi etc… and rack up those exp points. Even gathering gives you xp! The higher you get the easier it wil become.

Dynamic events are design to be difficult even for groups sometimes so soloing them can be very challenging, and with a necro even more so.
Just stick with it and persevere it will pay off in the end.
