SOLVED (for me anyway)

Procedure:
in finder menu go to your library (shown by pressing alt in the “go to” menu)
go to the application support folder
delete the “guild wars 2” folder

play !

i bought the game on wednesday night and didn’t even start playing till yesterday, after 10 minutes of playing the update started and then this whole error occurred. I DID NOT PAY 60 DOLLARS TO WATCH A BLACK SCREEN!

same exact issue, i thought it was a hardware issue so i updated my computer to lion and now my computer is running so slow…
