I’d say the problem is that Defiant is a kittenty mechanic.

Working 9-5: 8 hours of your day.
Commute if you work those hours: Not uncommon to take up 2 hours of your day. At least 1.
Appropriate sleep regime for a 9-5 worker: 11pm-7am, 8 hours.
So the average 9-5 worker has 5 hours between getting home at let’s say 6pm, and going to bed at 11, to do whatever. Which includes household business like cooking, eating, potential family time if that’s in their life, leaving a safe guesstimate of 2-2.5 hours for hobbies, of which playing GW2 may not be their only one.

Daily: Dodger

It’s not just the latency though – It’s the requirement to get the ‘evade’ message, even though you ‘dodged ’ the attack – a bit of latency and it throws your ability to know the exact second you’re supposed to press the button off, since the server might be a little ahead of you. And it is serverside. And many attacks do only trigger evade on a ‘perfect’ dodge, even if an imperfect dodge still means you avoid damage.

Fact remains the dodge daily is making players play in nonstandard ways – finding a ranged mob with an easily dodged attack and leaving it alive to farm dodges, finding an aoe and rolling back and forth in it, etc. That’s not desirable player behaviour.

Going to state that dodge daily also punishes players on less-than-ideal connections, where you have to pre-emptively dodge because dodging has to be done in a specific window during an attack animation, calculated serverside.

Would You Still Play if There was NO Loot?

If GW2 removed random armour/weapon drops I’d be significantly more interested in playing it. Up the drop rate of the various crafting ‘activators’ to a reasonable level, same for salvage item drops, but have the only entry point for gear into the system be player crafting or dungeon whatsits.

Of course without phat loots to do things for I guess people would get bored of logging in the fight The Shatterer every day hoping for something cool to fall out of his pockets, but that’s what you get for switching from a co-operative story-driven game to open-world MMO theme park.

Divorce attributes from armour and weapons. PvP gear has it right: armour is defence and a rune slot. weapons are damage and a sigil slot. Attributes come from trinkets.

I predict nobody will ever use guesting

Guesting is going to be great.

All those players who have made friends on other worlds, can now play together in the open world.

Except that my regular internet gaming group is spread across the world, not neatly compartmentalised into a single continent. Guesting is useless because of the region nonsense. There’s no oceans on the internet, don’t add them in.
