I started with double axes as well (along with short bow) and I like axe/horn a lot better than double axe for the buffs and good single target damage. Offhand axe just relied too much on having enemies be close which is what I try to avoid.
For pets I like the Krytan Drakehound as my primary pet (stun as part of rotation as well as player controlled immobilization) with the Brown Bear as more of a tank as my secondary one and if I need an additional condition cleanse above my signet (or used the active on the signet).
Hi, Im a new player and been trying out different classes.
I also enjoy reading the forums, and after going through a couple places now, I can’t get over how many times people mention the Ranger class as the most “worthless” class or at least the most in need of repair.
I was honestly considering leveling one up to 80, but you’ve scared me off . . . O.o
Just HOW bad is it right now for Rangers?!?!
Doesn’t seem like it to me. I am leveling my first character as a Ranger, am currently level 51 and went into WvW my first time ever and 1v2ed a couple people and downed them both. Not that anecdotal occurrences are evidence of the strength of the class, but as someone who has literally never played in a WvW before playing on a character without all of the traits available at 80, to 1v2 and win tells me much of the crying in class forums is overblown. Which, really if you go into any class forum you will see endless posts of crying.
So, play what you like to play. The more you enjoy doing something the more you will want to do it and thus get better.
Hey Tryst,
I’m curious, when you use both mouse buttons to move does nothing at all happen? Or are you getting camera movement as if only one of the buttons is being pressed?
Thanks for answering.
Sometimes, nothing at all happens but more times than not its almost as if the character takes one step then stops. In trying to troubleshoot this I find that if I press both buttons down in a bit of an awkward manner (really at the front edge of the mouse buttons) it works fairly reliably. I don’t know if this is an issue with sensitivity of pressing the buttons down between the game client and the mouse or if it may be an issue with the mouse itself (although have never had this issue anywhere before).
I usually press both buttons down at the center of each of the buttons and it is when I do it this way it’s as if the client recognizes the command for one step and then thinks for whatever reason that the buttons are no longer being pressed so my character then stops running.
Not sure if I am explaining it well, but it is not like moving my camera to view. When I move my camera to look around I do not have any issue at all.
It would be nice to have the specific pet attacks as the F1-F4 keys to better set up CC chains. F1 would be their auto attack and the rest you command as needed. It is true that the commands for pets to attack and return and swap could be set up as 3 distinct key bindings, but my guess is that may have been confusing to new players if there were commands that did not fit into the same key strokes like every other class does and is probably the reason for it, with the pet attacks all on a chain.
Hello all. I am running GW2 on my iMac and seem to have an issue with being able to reliably run while only using the mouse. Sometimes it works, sometimes it stutter steps and I have to try again. I am using the Razor Naga mouse and have never had an issue with moving with the mouse in previous games with a similar setup, ie WOW.
Obviously I can auto run, or use awsd, which I do, but in high moving battle situations I prefer moving with the mouse to use skills with keybinds.
Any suggestions/thoughts or recommendations of other gaming mice that seem to work fine with iMacs? My Mac is fully up to date with updates and using the latest OS (Mountain Lion I believe it is called).
Thanks.
As with any community, it starts with you. If people don’t take your class, then you start a group. If you aren’t pulling enough weight because of the fun spec you like to run then you change it for dungeons for the betterment of the group. If you don’t know a dungeon then you research the fights and learn what to do. With every additional person that does this, the benefits exponentially cascade throughout the server into better groups, a better community, and a better understanding of how all classes can be viable in dungeon settings. You can’t wait for someone to change it for you. You have to start the change.

(And by “disappointed” I am referring to the statement of ““people avoiding charr & asura are missing the strongest story stuff””)============
I chose a human due to the fact that I wanted to play a Norn or a Charr however the Norn males are hideous and their animations are god awful. Charr’s cant hold a shield without it clipping through or way off their arm and their tail goes through most armors by clipping etc etc. And they are both SLOW. So I went with the boring old human.
The most likely race to be released next is the Tengu which is just yet again another large animal race so I’ll just stick with my human after them as well. I’m waiting for a magical race. Something like the largos etc.
This is the first MMO I have ever rolled a human. I only did it due to the Norn males having worse hairstyles, movements, animations than any other MMO race I have ever seen.
============
TL;DR?
Were you forced into playing a human due to something?
OR
Did you choose a human simply because you wanted to roll a human?
Interesting topic, as like you, this is the first game I ever rolled human. I just started a month or so ago and tried out every race before human and for whatever reason did not like something about the other races…albeit animation, how the race acts, or just the feel of it where I am enjoying my human ranger and am sticking with that to level 80.
I definitely did not feel forced per se, but thought that was an interesting choice for me personally as it is so unlike what I normally do.
