Great action in ARBL tonight! First there were the fights with that female Necro in SE ruins, then barely managing to defend Hills from dem GoMs!
My highlight is definitely from the SE ruins. I ran up all those kitten stairs, just to get ambushed! Me and my AR pal fought the group of 4 briefly, and soon it became apparent we were not going to survive.
I see my ally go down and know hope is lost. With little HP to spare, I throw on shield stance and back towards the ledge, “You’ll never take Chops Mcgee alive, GoMmers!” I shout, turn, and dive off of the cliff! To my surprise, I wasn’t the only one:

Yes…. I totally meant to jump over that ledge as a joke, and not because I used sword leap….

Remember all, while fighting this seemingly horrid monster from the deeps, that Tequatl is, or at least, was, a human just like you. She’s just misunderstood.

We were discussing our differences on teamspeak, and realized, Tequatl just wants to be loved.

Or perhaps fed cupcakes, but our sacrifice of multitude of cupcakes seemed to not satisfy her.

Turimbar, I can’t imagine there’s that many mesmers you’re seeing running this specific build, I think more likely you’re just seeing a lot of mesmers in general because they’re a good wvw class. Not sure what makes you think they’re all this build, the -condition food? I use that 95% of my wvw time and I very rarely use this build, in fact it’s probably been over a month since I’ve run it in wvw, the food is really good for most everyone.

Thanks for the replies all. I do appreciate the concerted lack of “L2p n00b” responses.

After checking a few screenshots, max number of mesmers is usually about 10% of the active combatants. There is a particular guild that is against us in WvW that ALWAYS runs 7x of these mesmers with this exact build. They substitute a few traits/skills, but the Melandru runes, retaliation uptime with Sword/Focus, and food use is exactly the same.
That said, those seven mesmers can easily take on 20-30 and keep them wrapped up for a long long time.

I really don’t like the response that mesmers are the way to go to beat this build, but, I appreciate the honesty. I’ll keep trying out new counters. Might even share a few. I can reliably push them all back up to 1v2, but I can’t get any of them down.

For those that are asking, I am 100% certain they are using stealth skills. Nothing else would cause me to drop target like that.

If I had to call a nerf to this build, it would most certainly be the food. I still appreciate the tankiness of it, and the deception of using retaliation to blow up anyone trying to kill the clones.

Again, thanks for the feedback. I may have to save the gems to make a mesmer. -_-

Hey all, non-mesmer here.

So, I’ve been getting into some WvW pretty heavily recently, since the updates.

I’ve noticed that this particular build is used by quite a few mesmers. In fact, it’s just about every single one I see, has this exact build. To the point where I saw a group of 7 of them, all mesmers, all with this build. Of course, they were eating some folks for breakfast.

The problem is, this build is literally TOO good. The stealth, dodges, clones, retaliation, all that is annoying, but tolerable. The worst, the coup de etat is that Lemongrass Soup + Melandru Runes.

All conditions might as well not exist when fighting these mesmers, and it makes it pretty much impossible to kill them.

- I can’t log my warrior/guard and just AOE em, because of Retaliation.
- I can’t Condition them down with my ranger or necro, because of see above.
- I can SOMETIMES get them down with my thief, but that has to be a ONLY 1v1 and even then it’s close. If ANY other mob or player gets involved, it’s probably going south for me.

Last, but not least, most mesmers on this build, place a portal in a fortification, then jump wall and blurred frenzy some seige/players and cause general mayhem. Then, when things seem to be going poorly, they just portal right back inside by placing the “end” portal. Could have sworn it was client hacking when I saw it the first time.

So, I’m not jumping onto the nerf bandwagon just yet, because I like builds like these that are multifaceted. What I am asking all of you all is:

How would you counter this build, NOT as a mesmer?

Some things to consider:
– Generally in WvW.
– I do not play a mesmer.
– I’m not a perfect player.
– I’d like some tips to KILL then, not just make them run.
– I still do not play a mesmer.

Just a showing of how horrible this was.

I died 6 times because I couldn’t use my Stunbreaker. I would hit the button…. click it a thousand times… nope.

I would take this event being postponed until either we get smaller overflows, or this lag is fixed.

BTW, 25-35 FPS for most the time. Just as a comparison.

I agree with OP here. The direct damage of Backstab is not as much of a problem as the apparent ease with which any thief can apply it.

I actually did not know that stealing DIDN’T cancel the induction on CnD. I assumed it did.

This is a definite thing that needs to be adjusted.

Also, I find it sad that steal has no animation… I want to see my character nab something from someone.

I was thinking this suggestion over and I am not sure if it is actually a good idea. Maybe if they stealth upped the drop rate then that would be better.

If they where to do this change it would really hurt the economy.

I honestly think certain lodestones are higher because of recipes and the fact that you need so many. The tp hardly ever has 1000+ available of any lodestone except glacial which is why its only like 60s.

Corrupted lodestones use to be 1g+ they are down to 70s and falling everyday. When more lodestones of X type hit the market the prices go down.

Also by doing something like this will upset alot of sellers because basically the market would be flooded with them and they would lose money at the price that they have listed and all the time they farmed those stones to place on the tp for profit would be a loss.

I dont know I think it has to be more carefully thought of than just hey here is lodestones for tokens. The idea is ok but its more to it than just making sure that it takes time to do it. You have to think about people that have invested in and are selling lodestones for profit also.

You can get atleast 5g a day running plinx on cursed shore and just buy them of the tp put in the buy offer instead of buying them outright. Its kind of like lay away and its the smarter thing to do. Alot of people selling the lodestones don’t want to compete with undercutting and want their money quick so buy offers get filled quite often. Also if someone bids higher than you it costs you nothing to adjust your offer as in no tax.

So there is already a grind to get the money to get the lodestones you want its cursed shore all while getting karma (more than even the new karma rewards for dungeons) rares to salvage for ecto’s. Etc really cursed is the place to be for level 80 its free money.

This is a very well thought post, I like the input here.

This is an interesting point, I would personally say that this is not a good reason to refrain from adding this as I believe that Anet has NO duty to assure that any player’s market strategy remains profitable.
Anet has a duty to make the game fun, and make money, that is all.

Second, and relevant to the above post, you mentioned how you can farm 5g a day from Plinx, and buy the tokens. Which is true, and a solid, solid strategy.
However, myself, and undoubtedly other players, ENJOY running the dungeons and would like to see those lodestones there as a matter of a rewards.

Bear in mind, we’d only be able to realistically get ONE type of lodestone per day due to the diminishing returns.

In closing, I’d still like to see this implemented, I feel it would add a great level of diversity to the path to creating Cool New Shinies.

As much as the clock tower made me rage at first, I’m a huge fan of it, the reward at the end was nice, and the adrenaline rush was awesome.

I’m just dropping my support for this idea. I would feel that anywhere in the 120-180 range would be worthwhile.

I would say that the lodestones you get from the dungeon should NOT be account bound, they still take a concerted effort to get, and the demand will still exist, if a player wishes to sell them, so be it.

It will cause a massive drop in the price though, nothing can really be done about that.
